Chapter 33.1
Chapter 33.1
Shen Qingruo had a gentle look on her face when she heard the children talking about the promises they made to each other.
She really liked her current life, which was peaceful.
“Little Yan, Shuyan, I’ll be heading down to take out the trash. I’ll be back soon.” Shen Qingruo tidied up the rubbish in the kitchen and headed to the apartment door.
“Got it,” the children answered in unison.
Shen Qingruo was smiling as she walked out from her house. She happened to run into Luo Tianyuan, who just came back from the hospital.
She was surprised to see him, since it was still quite early. “Oh, you’re home early?”
It was now winter. Luo Shuyan’s dance class lasted for an hour and a half. She would go to class at 6:30PM and classes would end at 8:00PM. It wasn’t even 8:30PM yet.
The temperature difference was big between night and day. They could hear the sound of the cold wind rushing by while they stood at the opening of the staircase.
“Mn, the visitation timing was almost over when I reached, so I only stayed for a moment.”
“Ah, is Miss Qin doing alright?”
“She’s fine.” Luo Tianyuan clearly didn’t want to talk about it. He pulled his coat tighter and sighed. “Qingruo, my company is going to have a joint venture with an overseas company. We have a few documents that need to be translated. You’re fluent in English, right?”
Shen Qingruo was a rare species in Ning City.
She was graceful, knew how to play the piano, and could speak English fluently.
Luo Tianyuan unintentionally found out that she was teaching the two children the fundamentals of English. Plus, he also saw her reading English books.
She was taken aback, but she didn’t want to lie to him. She smiled and said, “My paternal grandparents studied abroad when they were younger. My parents were also quite strict with my education when I was younger.”
……
Shen Qingruo paused before continuing, “Mn, I do know a little.”
In all actuality, she was being modest. Even though Shen Qingruo didn’t study abroad like her parents had planned for her to, her parents gave her a very good education. Additionally, since she married into a rich family, she had to accompany her husband to important events, so she carried herself very well.
It had been a few years since she had to speak in English, and she was starting to forget the language. However, her son suddenly found a strong interest in English over the past year, and Luo Shuyan was also motivated to learn. Thus, Shen Qingruo picked up the language again.
She bought a dual-language dictionary and some English books. After some time, she managed to pick up the language again.
“I’ll send you a document tomorrow or the day after. Could you try to translate it for me?” Luo Tianyuan said in a low voice and continued, “We’ll pay you, and if the company is pleased with your work, conversion into a part-time or full-time staff wouldn’t be an issue. They told me that when times are good, you might need to translate 7 to 8 documents. I’ve discussed with the company and agreed that you’ll be paid by word count. As long as you do your job well, your pay would be a few times higher than being a piano teacher.”
Shen Qingruo looked at Luo Tianyuan with confusion.
Of course, she was touched. She wasn’t earning a lot a month. Even though her pay from Luo Tianyuan wasn’t very low, she’d end up spending most of it on food to ensure the children enjoyed themselves. Plus, she had to pay Luo Tianyuan a fixed sum for her apartment every month. So, when she factored every expenditure into account, she would need more money. However, Ning City was a small city, and her options were limited.
She was taken in by a kind elderly couple who had lost a daughter some time ago. The couple knew that the likelihood that their actual daughter was alive was low, however, they still held onto hope and didn’t register her death. After meeting Shen Qingruo, they treated her as if she was their own daughter, and she became “Shen Qingruo”.
Honestly, it was such a coincidence. She had the same surname as the elderly couple; it seemed like it was fate.
Based on official records, the actual Shen Qingruo went missing in the big city after junior high. The police had contacted the elderly couple that they’d found the body of their daughter and asked them to retrieve it. The facial features and birthmarks on the body matched their daughter’s.
On the way to the police station, they ran into Shen Qingruo and had a change of plans. They decided to ignore the fact that their daughter had passed away.
Back to the present, Shen Qingruo wouldn’t have dared to accept the job without further consideration if it were from anyone else. However, this was Luo Tianyuan. So, she lowered her head and said in a small voice, “Let me try, I’m not sure if I can do it.”
She knew that Luo Tianyuan was helping her. And how was she supposed to return the favor?
It seemed like Luo Tianyuan knew what Shen Qingruo was thinking. He breezily said, “I’m sure you can do it. Earn more now and save it up. Although Ning City is a peaceful city to live in, the growth potential is limited. When we are able to, in the future, let’s move to the capital city for our children. I heard that the education there is much better.”
Shen Qingruo couldn’t reject his offer.
Luo Tianyuan had brought this up in the past. However, she didn’t want rumors to spread and for her son to be affected, so she declined his suggestion back then.
Now that Luo Tianyuan was giving her a chance, as long as she took hold of it, she would be able to give her son a better education and a better environment to grow up in.
Luo Tianyuan’s motives were very clear. He could easily move with his daughter to the capital city, but he knew that he wouldn’t have much time to spend with her. Plus, he wasn’t comfortable with employing others to take care of her. He’d rather have Shen Qingruo move there with him. Thus, he was creating opportunities for her to earn money and move.
He knew what she cared about and acted on it.
He wanted to help the mother and son duo; it was to help them, and to help himself.
All in all, their children had their utmost priority in their lives.
