Chapter 34.1

Ever since winter arrived, Luo Shuyan found it extra difficult to get out of bed in the morning.

Ning City was located in the South, and the weather was cold and wet. The cold penetrated deep within the bones, so it wasn’t a pleasant experience waking up.

Luo Shuyan wanted to turn on the air conditioner, but the heater within the air conditioner didn’t work very well. After waking up from a nap, the room would be too dry, and her throat would hurt to a point where she couldn’t talk. In comparison to this, she’d rather sleep in the cold. Thus, thereafter, she stopped hoping to gain warmth from the heater.

After her alarm rang, Luo Shuyan reached to turn off the alarm and proceeded to snuggle up in her warm bed.

Even though she was no longer sleepy, her body was being honest. She wasn’t willing to let her body come into contact with the cold.

She kept her eyes closed, and thought to herself that she would just snooze for another 5 minutes. 5 minutes passed, and another 5 passed…

How about… waking up when the clock strikes?

After winter came, Luo Tianyuan would wake his daughter up every morning.

It was hard to imagine himself as someone who struggled to wake up when he was still studying. He either arrived on the dot or late. After becoming a father, he didn’t have the luxury to laze in bed.

“Shuyan, time to wake up.”

Luo Tianyuan called for his daughter outside her room and heard his daughter’s fatigued reply.

He also went through this period in life and he loved his daughter to bits, so as usual, he gently said, “Shuyan, it’s okay if you can’t get out of bed. Papa will give your class teacher a call that you wouldn’t be going to class today, and you’ll go for class tomorrow. How does that sound?”

In Luo Tianyuan’s opinion, his daughter was very smart and primary school content was too easy for her. It didn’t matter if she were to skip one day. After all, the weather was very cold, it was torturous for her to get out of bed. He wanted to let her have a good nap.

In regards to studies, it wasn’t something that one could master overnight. People couldn’t become top scorers by studying overnight, and neither would not studying for one day turn the person into a failing student.

His daughter’s happiness was the most important!

When Luo Tianyuan got up in the morning, he immediately opened the apartment door to improve air circulation, and it made it easier for Shen Yan to visit.

“…” Shen Yan was speechless.

He woke up half an hour ago. He took 10 minutes to bathe and freshen up, yet, Luo Shuyan hadn’t come over to have breakfast. He figured that she’d overslept and would come over to wake her up. However, he happened to bump into Uncle Luo talking about such things.

His jaw dropped.

He was pretty speechless. As he continued to observe Uncle Luo convincing Luo Shuyan to not go to school, he hurriedly said, “Uncle Luo, this won’t do.”

Luo Tianyuan finally noticed Shen Yan’s presence. He looked down at the little kid and said, “What do you mean?”

“I mean, you shouldn’t encourage Luo Shuyan to not go to school.”

Shen Yan had become more talkative over the years, but it was only in front of close ones.

“She isn’t sick, and the weather outside is not so bad, so she can go out. Why shouldn’t she go to school?”

“Most people have already gotten up and have gone to school. Teacher Sun’s son, who lives on the sixth floor, is in the third year of high school. He has to attend a morning self-study session, and he gets up to go to school every day before dawn.”

Luo Tianyuan said, “… Isn’t that for third year high school students? Shuyan is only in first grade. It doesn’t matter, since you guys don’t have a lot of homework.”

“It’s not about the curriculum, it’s about the attitude she has towards learning. Luo Shuyan is very smart, and her academic performance is very good, but if she slackens off once, there will be a second time, a third time, and she might never catch up again. While everyone is studying hard, she doesn’t go to school and stays in bed, and when she enters  junior high school, she wouldn’t be able to get into a good junior high because of her poor test results.” Shen Yan explained.

“If she can’t get into a good junior high school, she will not be able to get into a target high school. If she can’t get into a target high school, with her lazy attitude towards learning, it’s very likely that she won’t be able to get into a good university in the end. If she doesn’t attend a good university, she won’t be able to find a suitable job, or a good job…”

Luo Shuyan better not expect him to help her in the future if she ends up working a low wage job!

At most, he would be willing to buy her something to eat.

Before he could finish speaking, he heard the door opening.

With a messy bedhead, Luo Shuyan yawned while dressed in her pink fluffy pajamas. “Enough, Shen Yan, are you Tang Sanzhang*?”

T/N: Tang Sanzang is a Buddhist monk who is a central character in the novel “Journey to the West” by Wu Cheng’en.

She got a headache when she heard Shen Yan’s nagging.

It seemed that if she didn’t get up for school today, she would become a useless slug that could never regain her honor.

Even though she was only six years old, she felt a sense of danger from this kid!

God knew that she had more than ten years before she’s supposed to sit for her college entrance exam!

Luo Tianyuan patted Shen Yan’s head cheerfully, “You are stricter than me, but Shen Yan, you don’t have a daughter yet, and when you have a daughter, you might not be as strict as me.”

Shen Yan was in disbelief.

He won’t become such a lenient father.
