Chapter 130: Keeping the Yang Family Safe
Chapter 130: Keeping the Yang Family Safe
Although she voiced her dissatisfaction, she obediently dropped the topic of Yang Jie. The old man was visibly nearing his end; she had to perform well to see if she could reap some benefits. With the central figure of their gossip gone, these busybodies had nothing left to prattle about, and they gradually began to chat about everyday family matters.
Meanwhile, Yang Bingyu led Ye Xuan to Yang Zhennan’s study.
At this moment, Yang Zhennan was thoroughly reviewing a document at his desk. Seeing the two of them arrive, he was momentarily startled before waving Yang Bingyu over.
"Bingyu, come here. Grandpa has something for you."
Filled with curiosity, Yang Bingyu walked over to Yang Zhennan and stood obediently by his side, waiting for him to continue. Yang Zhennan took a kraft paper envelope from his left drawer, pulled out a stack of documents, and placed them in front of her.
"These are the transfer contracts for the company’s shares. After Grandpa passes away, all twenty percent of the shares under my name will be transferred to you.
"Also, this is the allocation agreement for the Yang Family’s other funds. You will inherit a quarter of my estate," Yang Zhennan said, his tone incredibly peaceful as he tremblingly opened the documents and contracts. Even though it was a deeply sorrowful matter, it sounded as if it had nothing to do with him.
The calmer and more composed he was, the worse Yang Bingyu felt. Yang Zhennan himself had accepted the fact that his days were numbered, but Yang Bingyu still couldn’t bring herself to face reality.
"Grandpa, I won’t sign it. I don’t want to sign! You manage the company yourself, and you keep this property yourself. I don’t want you to leave. You said you would wait until the day I get married and have kids." Yang Bingyu’s tears flowed uncontrollably. She threw herself into Yang Zhennan’s arms, crying as she spoke.
"Silly girl, Grandpa is old. Sooner or later, I will have to leave you. How could I stay by your side forever?
"Be good and obediently sign these things. You saw those people outside. They are all eagerly eyeing Grandpa’s belongings.
"You are the only one in the Yang Family who can achieve great things. Only by handing the company over to you can I rest easy. If I give it to anyone else, I won’t be able to die in peace," Yang Zhennan said, affectionately stroking Yang Bingyu’s hair as he advised her with earnest words.
After so long, he had long accepted the fact that he was severely ill. Yang Jie’s death had helped him let go of even more. His only hope now was that the Yang Family would be able to withstand the external pressure after he was gone. He didn’t want the hard work of their ancestors to be squandered by the parasites in the Yang Family.
"I don’t want to sign! Grandpa, don’t leave me!" Yang Bingyu grew increasingly emotional, sobbing breathlessly in Yang Zhennan’s arms.
"Ye Xuan, please persuade this girl. If she keeps crying, she’ll make herself sick." At his wit’s end, Yang Zhennan could only look up at Ye Xuan, asking him to comfort her.
Ye Xuan gave Yang Zhennan a complicated look, feeling a bit of pity for him. The Yang Family was certainly thriving in numbers, but unfortunately, they hadn’t cultivated a single capable talent. He believed that if the Yang Family had produced anyone even slightly capable of taking on great responsibilities, Yang Zhennan wouldn’t be leaving the company and a quarter of his assets to Yang Bingyu.
"Bingyu, just respect the old man’s choice. Handing the company and the Yang Family over to you is a sign of his trust in you.
"Think about it. If you don’t sign these contracts and agreements, what will become of the Yang Family if it falls into the hands of those parasites outside?" Ye Xuan said. He squatted down, placed his hands on Yang Bingyu’s shoulders, and made her look into his eyes to gently comfort her.
Sometimes, things worked like magic. Yang Zhennan had reasoned with her to no avail, but Ye Xuan managed to pacify Yang Bingyu with just a few words. Yang Bingyu sniffled, wiped the tears from her face, and obediently signed the agreements.
But as soon as she finished signing, her small face scrunched up again.
"Grandpa, I’m just an adopted daughter of the Yang Family. If you do this, will my second uncle and aunts agree?" Thinking of the faces of her second uncle and all those intrusive relatives, Yang Bingyu felt a headache coming on. Given their snobbish nature, they definitely wouldn’t let it go once they found out she had inherited so much of the family fortune.
"That’s why I added a clause to this agreement. To inherit these assets, you must marry Ye Xuan.
"Only if you marry Ye Xuan will they not dare to have any objections. Even if they try to play tricks, with the Cyan Dragon Chief here, he will protect you and keep you safe," Yang Zhennan said plainly, casting a deep look at Ye Xuan.
Both Ye Xuan and Yang Bingyu were momentarily stunned. They hadn’t expected Yang Zhennan to pull such a move. This old fox’s plan was truly brilliant. As long as Yang Bingyu married Ye Xuan, the Yang Family would catch a free ride to success. As long as the status of the Four Palaces didn’t fall, there was no possibility of the Yang Family declining.
"Old man, it’s not very nice of you to scheme against me like this, is it?" Ye Xuan narrowed his eyes, looking at Yang Zhennan as he spoke in a deep voice.
"Grandpa, I don’t want to use this kind of coercive method to force Ye Xuan to marry me. Please change this condition." Yang Bingyu also frowned, dissatisfied with Yang Zhennan’s approach. It had taken so much effort to get Ye Xuan to agree to slowly try being with her. She was terrified that Ye Xuan would back out because of Yang Zhennan’s coercion. She understood Ye Xuan’s personality. The more he was forced to do something, the more it would backfire.
"Bingyu, Cyan Dragon Chief, although Jie’s death was his own doing, it is also undeniably connected to you two.
"Consider this the repayment I, Yang Zhennan, am asking of you. That’s not too much to ask, is it?" Yang Zhennan asked, looking up at Ye Xuan with a dark, unreadable gaze.
Ye Xuan met his gaze for a moment and ultimately yielded. Regarding the matter with Yang Jie, he did owe the Yang Family, after all.
"I promise you this: for every day Bingyu stays with the Yang Family, I will ensure the Yang Family’s safety. As for marriage, we can talk about that later," Ye Xuan sighed, making the promise with some resignation.
He could agree to protect the Yang Family, but he still couldn’t commit to marrying Yang Bingyu. He didn’t want a repeat of the past, rushing hastily into a marriage. Marriage should be grand, solemn, and sacred. If a marriage was started casually, it definitely wouldn’t turn out well. Moreover, a lasting marriage absolutely had to be built on a stable emotional foundation. The reason he and Lin Aoxue divorced was precisely because they had no emotional foundation.
Although Ye Xuan’s answer wasn’t quite what Yang Zhennan had envisioned, getting his promise was enough. Yang Zhennan didn’t press Ye Xuan to marry Yang Bingyu. After all, matters of the heart were out of his control anyway.
"Then I hope the Cyan Dragon Chief will remember today’s promise in the future," Yang Zhennan spoke earnestly, meeting Ye Xuan’s eyes.
"When I, Ye Xuan, speak, my word is my bond," Ye Xuan answered solemnly, lifting his chin slightly.
