Chapter 133: Compensate and Apologize
Chapter 133: Compensate and Apologize
Yang Zhennan held Yang Bingyu’s hand and patted it gently, his eyes full of expectation. The entire Yang Family was now in her hands.
By the time Yang Bingyu and Ye Xuan left the Yang Family’s home, it was already around ten at night. However, Yang Bingyu didn’t want to return to Yunju Mountain Villa just yet, so she dragged Ye Xuan to the night market in Jianghai City. She had wanted to check out the night market for a long time, but never had the chance.
"Hurry up, hurry up! I heard there’s a shaved ice shop that’s incredibly delicious. Let’s go get some," she said.
Ye Xuan had barely parked the car before Yang Bingyu impatiently dragged him into the bustling night market. Even though it was already ten o’clock, the market was at its most vibrant. Couples strolled hand in hand down the street, and parents brought their children out to play. The stalls lining both sides of the road sold everything one could imagine—clothes, jewelry, snacks, and toys.
While these sights were nothing new to Ye Xuan, for a pampered rich heiress like Yang Bingyu, it was an incredibly novel experience. She pulled Ye Xuan along, looking left and right, and soon her hands were full of various items.
"Ye Xuan, try this stinky tofu! It’s so tasty~" Yang Bingyu urged him on as she stuffed a piece into her own mouth.
Smelling that pungent, overpowering odor, Ye Xuan mentally recoiled at the prospect of eating it. He really had no appetite for foods that smelled awful but supposedly tasted great. Under Yang Bingyu’s expectant gaze, however, he could only brace himself and eat a piece.
He hadn’t even finished chewing when Yang Bingyu spotted another snack stall. Her eyes lit up as she ran over to line up. Ye Xuan followed closely behind with an indulgent look on his face, shielding her from the surrounding crowd so she wouldn’t get jostled.
"Mister, this lady is so pretty! This flower crown would look absolutely beautiful on her."
While they were waiting in line, a little girl holding a flower basket walked up to the queue and tried to sell her flower crowns to a young couple in front of them. The flower crowns were lovely, made with fresh blooms. The little girl was also exceptionally cute, her eyes bright and sparkling like large grapes. She tilted her head up, flashing an incredibly sweet smile.
The young woman in the couple was instantly won over. She tugged at her boyfriend’s arm, signaling him to buy one.
"How much for one of these?" the man asked with obvious reluctance, glancing at the little girl impatiently.
"Mister, my grandma and I wove this by hand, and the flowers were just picked today. It’s only twenty yuan each!" Thinking he was going to buy one, the little girl smiled even sweeter.
But to everyone’s surprise, the man’s expression instantly darkened.
"Twenty bucks for a trashy flower crown? Why don’t you just rob someone! Get lost, we’re not buying!" he shouted. His voice was so loud that the people around them turned to look.
Extremely embarrassed, the young woman tugged at her boyfriend’s shirt and softly urged, "If we aren’t buying, then we aren’t buying. There’s no need to yell at a little girl."
Instead of dropping the matter, the man only escalated things. He swatted his girlfriend’s hand away and practically roared.
"Shut the fuck up! You wasteful bitch. It’s bad enough you dragged me out to this crappy night market so late at night, but now you want to waste money on useless garbage.
"Do you have any idea how hard it is for me to make money? I work myself to the bone all day, and you just spend money like water!"
Berated so publicly, the young woman’s face flushed red. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she wished the ground would swallow her whole.
"I know, I won’t buy it. Let’s just go home," she said. Despite the man’s atrocious attitude, she didn’t get angry; instead, she swallowed her pride and tried to coax him.
The bystanders couldn’t stand watching this anymore. Some older women stepped up to speak on the girl’s behalf.
"Young man, things at the night market aren’t expensive. Buying a little something for your girlfriend is nothing. There’s no need to lose your temper like this."
"Exactly. You need to change that temper of yours. What’s the point of making money if not to spend it? Besides, the little girl’s flower crowns are lovely. Your girlfriend would look beautiful wearing one."
Even the little girl he had just yelled at tried to defend the young woman. She walked up to the man, tugged his shirt, and said timidly, "Mister, if you don’t want to buy the flowers, that’s okay. I’ll go sell them somewhere else. Please don’t be mean to the lady."
Anyone else would have melted at such a cute and innocent display. But the man acted like a lunatic, viciously shoving the little girl away.
The little girl stumbled and fell hard onto the ground. The flower basket slipped from her grasp, and over a dozen flower crowns were crushed out of shape under her weight. Seeing her ruined flower crowns, the little girl’s large eyes instantly filled with tears. Her little nose twitched as she sniffled, looking incredibly pitiful and wronged.
"Zhao Hu! What is wrong with you? How could you hit a child!" Seeing the man shove the little girl, the young woman could no longer tolerate it. She gave Zhao Hu a hard push and screamed at him furiously.
Then, she squatted down to help the little girl pick up the crushed flower crowns from the ground. "I’m so sorry, sweetie, for ruining your flower crowns. How much are they? I’ll pay you for them."
After saying that, she stood up and reached for her wallet to get some cash. Seeing this, Zhao Hu snatched her wallet away and cursed foully.
"Fuck! She lost her footing and fell. What the hell does that have to do with me? Pay her? My ass! Hurry up and come home with me!" As he cursed, Zhao Hu reached out to grab the young woman’s arm, forcefully dragging her away.
She struggled, refusing to leave with him.
"Fuck, you bitch! Don’t push your luck!" Seeing her refuse to move, Zhao Hu flew into a rage and raised his arm to strike her.
Just as his hand was about to fall, someone caught it in an iron grip, completely immobilizing him.
"Who! Who the fuck is sticking their nose in my business!" Zhao Hu was practically exploding with anger. He struggled forcefully to break free, but no matter how hard he tried, it was useless. He could only turn around with a dark scowl.
"Pay up, and apologize," Ye Xuan said, holding Zhao Hu’s wrist and staring at him with icy eyes.
He hadn’t intended to meddle in other people’s business, but this man named Zhao Hu was simply crossing the line. Not only had he bullied a little girl, but he was even about to hit his own girlfriend. He really wondered how a scumbag like him managed to get a girlfriend in the first place.
"Fuck off, who the hell do you think you are? You expect me to apologize just because you said so?" Seeing Ye Xuan’s handsome, refined appearance and not particularly muscular build, Zhao Hu assumed he was just some bookworm. Emboldened, he glared at Ye Xuan without an ounce of fear.
"I’ll say it again. Pay up, and apologize." Ye Xuan didn’t waste time arguing. He tightened his grip considerably and repeated himself in a low, dangerous tone.
Zhao Hu felt as if his wrist was about to snap. He hadn’t expected this seemingly frail man to possess such terrifying strength.
"Okay, okay, man, my bad! Let go of my hand first, I’ll pay and apologize right now." His eyes darted around as he decided to play along and buy himself some time. He feigned agreement just to get Ye Xuan to release his hand.
Ye Xuan gave him a cold look before finally letting go.
