Chapter 136: Midnight Attack

Realizing things were going south, Zhao Hu immediately tried to grease his shoes and slip away.

But Ye Xuan wasn’t about to let him have his way. He had already caught the fleeing figure out of the corner of his eye.

Stomping heavily on the iron pipe lying on the ground, the weapon popped up into the air. Ye Xuan grabbed it smoothly and flung it forward. The iron pipe smashed directly into Zhao Hu’s back.

Zhao Hu was completely stunned by the heavy blow. His head buzzed, and he felt as if his spine had just snapped in two. With a miserable shriek, he fell flat on his face. He lay on the ground groaning, lacking even the strength to crawl back up.

"My name is Ye Xuan. Tell Zhang Kai that if he has any complaints, he can come find me directly at Yunju Mountain Villa."

Ye Xuan kicked Brother Yellow Hair right in the chest, snapping three of his ribs. Leaving behind those words, he grabbed Yang Bingyu’s hand and walked away.

Yunju Mountain Villa? Wasn’t that the Yang Family’s territory? Upon hearing the words "Yunju Mountain Villa," Brother Yellow Hair was thoroughly dumbfounded.

Good heavens! He realized that the woman he had just bragged about dragging into bed was actually Yang Bingyu! He had wondered why she looked a bit familiar earlier; to think she was the eldest young lady of the Yang Family! No wonder that man dared to be so arrogant—he had the backing of the Yang Family.

He was practically digging his own grave. How could he have offended such a major figure? Watching Yang Bingyu’s departing figure, he was filled with crushing regret.

"Are we just going to offend Zhang Kai like this? He’s a petty and vindictive person. I’m afraid doing this will anger him," Yang Bingyu asked with some concern as she followed behind Ye Xuan.

She wasn’t doubting Ye Xuan’s abilities. Rather, knowing Zhang Kai’s ruthless methods, she couldn’t help but feel worried.

Back when they were in university, a wealthy young heir had also pursued her. When Zhang Kai found out, he first threatened the young heir, telling him to stay away from her. Seeing that the young heir wouldn’t listen to his warnings, Zhang Kai simply had his father sabotage the heir’s family company.

The young heir’s family plummeted from grace overnight. Forced by circumstance, he eventually had no choice but to kneel and apologize to Zhang Kai in public. Only after publicly humiliating the young heir did Zhang Kai finally let the matter drop. Thoroughly disgraced at school, the young heir subsequently transferred away.

Since then, none of the opposite sex at the university dared to harbor even the slightest thought about Yang Bingyu, terrified of inviting Zhang Kai’s retaliation. At the time, Yang Bingyu hadn’t cared much. In fact, she had been somewhat grateful to Zhang Kai; his actions had certainly brought a lot of peace and quiet to her life.

This was also the reason why she hadn’t had a boyfriend in all these years.

"Relax. He’s just Zhang Kai. Nothing to worry about."

Ye Xuan didn’t take Zhang Kai seriously at all. The Zhang Family could indeed be considered incredibly wealthy and powerful in Jianghai City, but in his eyes, they were nothing special.

Seeing his confidence, Yang Bingyu felt her worries ease.

Stretching his limbs, Ye Xuan felt much more comfortable all over. It seemed he really ought to thank those street thugs.

"By the way, Orioles is planning to open a branch company in Huaxia, and they’ve chosen Jianghai City as the location.

"You should start preparing for it these next few days. It’s a very good opportunity."

The matter of Orioles opening a branch in Jianghai City was basically set in stone. Barring any unexpected circumstances, the news would be released to the public in about a week. This would draw far more envy than the Xiao Family opening a branch in the city.

After all, this was the very first branch company Orioles was establishing in Huaxia. It held immense significance. As long as they could secure this investment, the Yang Family could leap into the ranks of the prestigious and powerful families entering Jingcheng. When that time came, the Yang Family’s status would be formidable even within Jingcheng.

"Really? Did Far tell you that? That really is a great opportunity!" Yang Bingyu immediately grew excited in the passenger seat. Unable to sit still, she looked at Ye Xuan for confirmation.

The news was simply too sudden. After Xiao Ran’s death, the matter of the Xiao Family’s branch company had been constantly delayed. Furthermore, his death was tied to the Yang Family, making it almost impossible to continue collaborating with the Xiao Family. She hadn’t expected an even better option to spring up right after losing a great opportunity.

This time, Yang Bingyu was determined to win the chance to cooperate with Orioles.

"Of course it’s true. Just go back and prepare well. Far actually thinks very highly of your company this time.

"During the bidding, barring any accidents, this partnership will undoubtedly belong to the Yang Family."

Ye Xuan couldn’t help but smile at Yang Bingyu’s excited expression.

He had originally set this whole thing up for Yang Bingyu and Lin Aoxue, wanting to use this opportunity to give the two of them a helping hand. But now that his relationship with Lin Aoxue was so strained, she probably wouldn’t accept such an arrangement from him.

He would have to come up with a flawless plan to make Lin Aoxue believe she had won the partnership with Orioles through her own merits. Otherwise, with her proud and competitive personality, she would just throw another fit.

Hearing Ye Xuan’s words, Yang Bingyu felt a surge of emotion. Although Ye Xuan didn’t say it outright, she knew that the Yang Family had already been internally selected for this partnership. And all of this was done by the man sitting right in front of her.

"Thank you, Ye Xuan." Yang Bingyu looked at Ye Xuan’s chiseled profile, her heart full of gratitude and joy.

"You—get down!"

Ye Xuan turned his head, just about to say something, when he spotted a XiaohH dot right between Yang Bingyu’s eyebrows. His pupils instantly dilated. He slammed on the brakes, pressing a hand against Yang Bingyu’s head and shoving her down as he hunched over.

At that exact moment, the car window shattered with a loud CRASH, and a bullet whizzed past, grazing the tips of Yang Bingyu’s hair.

SCREECH! The tires left two long skid marks on the road, sliding for nearly a dozen meters before the car finally came to a steady halt.

Yang Bingyu’s heart practically leapt into her throat. Her small face was deathly pale, and her entire body trembled slightly.

Ye Xuan leaned over the steering wheel, waiting for a good while. Only after confirming that the sniper had left did he slowly straighten his back.

"Bingyu, are you alright?"

His first priority was to check on her condition. Seeing that she wasn’t injured, he let out a heavy sigh of relief. It was a good thing he had turned his head to look at her just then; otherwise, the consequences would have been unimaginable.

He hadn’t expected there to be a sniper, and the assailant’s intent was obvious—they were targeting Yang Bingyu. The sniper was also smart; after failing the first shot, they didn’t act rashly and chose to temporarily retreat instead. After all, the shooter was hidden in the shadows while Ye Xuan and Yang Bingyu were out in the open. There would be plenty of opportunities later.

"I-I’m fine. What about you? Are you hurt?" Yang Bingyu struggled to steady her breathing. Disregarding her own condition, she checked Ye Xuan with a look of absolute terror. "You’re bleeding! We need to get to the hospital immediately!"

Ye Xuan’s arm had been slashed several times by the shattered glass. Bright red blood oozed from the cuts, making Yang Bingyu’s heart ache at the sight.

"I’m fine. Let’s head home first. It’s not safe out here." Ye Xuan glanced at his arm, not paying it much mind. He casually wiped it with a tissue, restarted the car, and drove them home.
