Chapter 140 - 139: There Will Come a Time When You Beg Me
Chapter 140 - 139: There Will Come a Time When You Beg Me
The words echoed through the room with the night breeze. Ye Xuan had no time to give chase, rushing over instead to check on Yang Bingyu’s condition.
A gleaming dagger was stabbed into the feather pillow, tearing a huge hole and missing Yang Bingyu’s cheek by a fraction of an inch. She was already wide awake. Her large eyes were wide open as she looked at Ye Xuan, her face pale with terror.
"Bingyu, are you okay?" Ye Xuan reached out and pulled her tightly into his arms, his heart still pounding with lingering fear. He couldn’t figure out what Night Rose was plotting. Although she hadn’t actually hurt Yang Bingyu, such a threat was more than enough to put him on edge.
"How dare you! You’re just a servant, how could you do such a thing to Miss Yang! Let her go right now!"
Xu Lu finally caught up, panting heavily. Seeing Ye Xuan holding Yang Bingyu, his eyes instantly turned red with jealousy. Roaring in anger, he stepped forward to pull them apart.
Yang Bingyu had recovered her senses slightly. Seeing an unfamiliar face like Xu Lu, she frowned instantly. Hearing him speak to Ye Xuan in such a tone and call him a servant immediately sparked her displeasure.
"Who are you? Who allowed you into my room? Also, this is my fiancé, not some servant. Please show some respect." When Yang Bingyu scolded him, her small face was covered in frost, leaving Xu Lu completely dumbfounded.
"This... he’s really your fiancé, Miss Yang?" Xu Lu looked at Ye Xuan in astonishment, still somewhat unable to accept the fact.
Yang Bingyu adjusted her pajamas and said, somewhat speechless, "Who else would he be if not my fiancé?"
After getting her confirmation once again, Xu Lu felt terrible. He looked Ye Xuan up and down with an extremely complicated gaze. He figured Yang Bingyu must like this type of delicate, refined man. It was no wonder he had managed to become a live-in son-in-law for the Yang Family after serving as one for the Lin Family.
"Ye Xuan, Grandpa..." Yang Bingyu ignored Xu Lu, as she simply had no energy to deal with anything else. Yang Zhennan’s death was a massive blow to her; it felt as if an invisible pillar of support had collapsed. She originally wanted to ask Ye Xuan where Yang Zhennan was, but the moment she opened her mouth, tears began to fall. Her heart felt like a gaping hole had been carved out of it, hurting so much she could barely breathe.
"There, there. Don’t cry, I’m here." Seeing Yang Bingyu cry made Ye Xuan feel awful as well. Yang Zhennan’s death had been completely out of his expectations.
A sniper. Night Rose. It seemed things were getting more and more complicated.
About two or three minutes later, Yang Tao and Yang Kui, who had been busy handling Yang Zhennan’s funeral arrangements, returned to the Yang Family villa. Upon learning that Yang Bingyu had nearly been attacked, Yang Tao only asked a few symbolic questions, while Yang Kui remained entirely silent.
Ye Xuan deliberately told the two brothers about Night Rose to gauge their reactions, but both responded similarly—neither seemed to know much about her. Ye Xuan couldn’t be sure if Night Rose’s appearance had anything to do with them.
"Bingyu, you need to look past Grandpa’s matter. Don’t be too sad," Yang Tao comforted her with a complicated expression, looking at her dazed face. "There are still many things waiting for you to handle, so you must pull yourself together quickly."
Even though dawn was approaching, Yang Tao felt the future was entirely bleak. With Yang Zhennan dead, the Yang Family had undoubtedly become a prime target. Although he had left a will for Yang Bingyu to take over the company, in the eyes of those predators, she was just a little girl—nothing to fear. He wondered if the Yang Family could survive the impending storm.
Yang Bingyu naturally understood this logic as well. She wiped the tears from her face and nodded between sobs. Since her grandfather had entrusted the company and the Yang Family into her hands, she had to protect everything he had left behind.
After a long, busy night, Yang Tao was physically and mentally exhausted. He comforted Yang Bingyu with a few more words before returning to his own room. Yang Kui hadn’t spoken a single word the entire time, but when he left, the look he gave her was full of malice.
Ye Xuan’s head throbbed. The situation was getting increasingly out of control.
"Ye Xuan, go get some rest," Yang Bingyu said with heartache, looking at his exhausted face. Although she was also tired, she had at least rested for a short while. Ye Xuan hadn’t slept a wink all night, and dark circles were already showing under his eyes.
"I’m fine. You should sleep a bit more; I’ll watch over you." Ye Xuan gently shook his head, declining her well-intentioned offer. Instead, he pulled up a chair and sat by her bedside. To prevent another incident like the one earlier, he decided to stay by Yang Bingyu’s side without leaving for a single second.
"Miss Yang, I will definitely get to the bottom of Elder Yang’s matter as soon as possible. Just leave it to me!" Xu Lu, who had been completely ignored up until now, desperately tried to make his presence known. He patted his chest forcefully and made a solemn vow.
Only then did Yang Bingyu remember he was still in the room. Thinking of his attitude toward Ye Xuan earlier, her face instantly fell.
"You don’t need to involve yourself in this matter. We will investigate it ourselves." Although Ye Xuan hadn’t specified Night Rose’s identity when he mentioned her just now, the intelligent Yang Bingyu had instantly guessed the hidden implications. She knew this wasn’t something ordinary police officers could solve, so naturally, she didn’t count on Xu Lu.
Xu Lu felt extremely awkward, but at the same time, highly dissatisfied. He felt that Yang Bingyu was clearly looking down on him.
"Miss Yang, I am a senior detective. No one in the entire Jianghai City can take on this case except me," Xu Lu boasted, raising his chin confidently.
Yang Bingyu frowned, deeply disliking his conceited attitude.
"You’re only half right," Ye Xuan said mildly. "It’s not that no one in Jianghai City can take this case except you, but rather, no police officer in the entirety of Jianghai City can handle it.
"If you don’t know who Night Rose is, you can go back and check the internal databases."
Ye Xuan cast a bland glance at Xu Lu, feeling a pang of pity for him in his heart. The fact that Xu Lu had become a senior detective proved he had some skills, but he was simply too arrogant. For anyone, being overly conceited was never a good thing.
These words thoroughly infuriated Xu Lu. His face turned ashen as he glared at Yang Bingyu and Ye Xuan, throwing out a harsh threat. "Fine, let’s wait and see. The day will come when you beg for my help!"
With that, Xu Lu stormed off in a rage. Yang Bingyu rolled her eyes, utterly speechless. She thought he was far too full of himself.
"Ye Xuan, who was that woman just now? Are you really going to meet her tomorrow?" She didn’t take Xu Lu’s words to heart, instead asking about Night Rose.
When Night Rose had broken in earlier, Yang Bingyu had already woken up. However, her mind had gone completely blank, and she had forgotten to cry for help or resist. Still, Night Rose hadn’t made a move to kill her. Instead, the assassin had looked at her with a hint of amusement—almost as if she had found Yang Bingyu quite interesting.
