Chapter 149 - 148: Bad Timing
Chapter 149 - 148: Bad Timing
After preparing dinner, Ye Xuan went to the study to call Yang Bingyu to eat.
Yang Bingyu rubbed her temples. As she stood up, her vision suddenly went black, and the room spun around her. She knocked over a water glass on the desk, sending shards of glass shattering across the floor. Fortunately, Ye Xuan reacted quickly and caught her; otherwise, she would have fallen right onto the broken glass.
"Are you all right?" Ye Xuan asked with concern, sweeping Yang Bingyu up from the floor into a bridal carry.
"I’m fine, just a little dizzy," Yang Bingyu said weakly, holding her forehead. She didn’t know what was wrong with her; she had been experiencing frequent dizzy spells lately.
Although she claimed to be fine, Ye Xuan couldn’t help but worry when he saw her pale lips. "Why don’t we call the family doctor over to take a look? Your complexion has been awful lately."
"There’s no need. I just need to rest a bit, and I’ll be fine. Put me down, let’s go eat." Yang Bingyu rejected his suggestion and struggled out of his arms. She didn’t pay the dizziness much mind. With so much going on lately and her mood being rather poor, it felt perfectly normal to be a little under the weather.
Knowing he couldn’t change her mind, Ye Xuan nervously followed her downstairs.
He had prepared three dishes and a soup for dinner tonight, all of which were her favorites. Seeing the piping hot food on the table, Yang Bingyu’s mood finally improved a little.
She picked up her chopsticks and grabbed a piece of braised fish. Just as she was about to eat it, the smell suddenly hit her, triggering a violent wave of nausea. She quickly covered her mouth and rushed to the bathroom, dry heaving over the sink.
Seeing this, Ye Xuan became incredibly anxious. "Bingyu, what’s wrong? Did you catch a cold? Let me take you to the hospital." He patted her back in distress, deciding they needed to get her checked out immediately.
It took a long while for Yang Bingyu to feel even a fraction better. Her face looked even paler than before. She pulled out a facial tissue to wipe the water from her face, then nodded in agreement. The sudden illness had panicked her too, as she had never experienced anything quite like it before.
They soon arrived at the nearest hospital for a checkup.
"Miss Yang, how long have you been experiencing these symptoms?" the emergency room doctor asked, looking at Yang Bingyu.
Yang Bingyu thought for a moment before replying uncertainly, "I haven’t really noticed. I’ve been overwhelmed with things lately, but this is the first time I’ve actually thrown up."
The doctor took notes as he listened. "Then please tell me what you ate today."
Before Yang Bingyu could speak, Ye Xuan answered for her.
"She had millet porridge and soup dumplings for breakfast. She didn’t have much of an appetite for lunch, so she just had porridge again.
"For dinner, I made stir-fried greens, braised fish, shredded potatoes, and pork rib soup.
"However, she didn’t take a single bite. The moment she picked up a piece of the fish, she felt nauseous and started dry heaving."
Hearing Ye Xuan’s detailed account, the doctor couldn’t help but look up at him. A flicker of realization flashed in his eyes before he lowered his head and continued writing. "How about this? Let’s have you do an ultrasound first." Handing them the requisition form, he instructed Ye Xuan to go pay the fee.
Both Ye Xuan and Yang Bingyu were perplexed. Why would she need an ultrasound for dizziness and nausea? Despite their doubts, they proceeded with the scan. After all, the doctor knew better than they did.
The test results came out quickly. The doctor stared at the ultrasound report for a long time. His brows furrowed into a serious expression.
This made Ye Xuan nervous, and he asked worriedly, "Doctor, is there a problem?"
The doctor looked at the report, then glanced at Ye Xuan. After a moment of silence, he said, "Miss Yang, Mr. Ye, congratulations. You are going to have a baby."
Hearing this, Ye Xuan and Yang Bingyu were instantly dumbfounded. It took a long time for Ye Xuan to finally snap out of his daze. He snatched the ultrasound report from the doctor’s hand and carefully read the diagnosis. When he saw the words "eight weeks pregnant," his mind exploded with a loud BOOM. He never expected Yang Bingyu to actually be pregnant.
"Miss Yang, you are still in the early stages of pregnancy. Coupled with your recent exhaustion and poor mood, the fetus’s condition isn’t particularly optimistic.
"I hope you can keep yourself in good spirits and avoid overworking. Eat more healthy, nutritious foods, as this will aid the baby’s development."
Assuming Ye Xuan’s dramatic reaction was simply overwhelming joy, the doctor didn’t comment on it, turning instead to give Yang Bingyu these instructions.
Yang Bingyu remained in a daze the entire time. It wasn’t until they left the hospital and she was sitting in the passenger seat that she finally digested the news.
"Ye Xuan, I’m pregnant. It’s our baby." She stroked her belly, looking at Ye Xuan with profound tenderness.
Ye Xuan’s feelings were incredibly complex. With so many troubles brewing right now, this child had come at the worst possible time.
"When should we go get our marriage certificate? In a few months, I’ll start showing.
"Do you think it’s a boy or a girl? I kind of hope it’s a boy, and that he takes after you in both looks and personality."
This was the best news Yang Bingyu had received in a long time. Heaven had taken away her closest relative, but now it was giving her another one in return.
Listening to Yang Bingyu’s joyful voice, Ye Xuan pursed his lips, entirely unsure of how to answer.
"Do you... not want me to be pregnant?" When Ye Xuan didn’t reply, Yang Bingyu turned to look at him, her face filling with disappointment.
"No, it’s just that I feel this child has come at a bad time. The situation in Jianghai City is too chaotic right now, and I’m afraid I won’t be able to protect both of you." Ye Xuan let out a heavy sigh, voicing his true thoughts. Faced with so many impending crises, he simply couldn’t bring himself to be happy.
But Yang Bingyu misunderstood his words and instantly became upset. She covered her lower abdomen with her hands and glared at him defensively.
"What do you mean? Are you telling me to abort this baby?
"Ye Xuan, I’m warning you, this child is mine! I won’t abort him no matter what!
"This is a gift from God! Don’t you even think about taking him away!"
Seeing her growing hysterical, Ye Xuan quickly tried to soothe her.
"Bingyu, you’ve misunderstood. That’s not what I meant at all. This is my baby too; how could I ever be cruel enough not to want him?
"Please don’t get worked up. I won’t make you abort him. Just calm down, okay?"
He didn’t dare provoke her now. Her manic episodes seemed to be getting worse. Back at the hospital, he had actually pulled the doctor aside to ask about her condition. The doctor’s advice had been to terminate the pregnancy; if they insisted on keeping the child, they absolutely had to keep Yang Bingyu in a relaxed, happy state. Otherwise, if she suffered a manic episode during the pregnancy, it would have severe negative impacts on both her and the baby.
It took quite a while before Yang Bingyu slowly calmed down. However, a trace of wariness still lingered in her eyes, and her hands never left her lower abdomen.
