Chapter 15: Under Attack
Chapter 15: Under Attack
"Where are we going?" Having calmed down, Ye Xuan reverted to the cold and composed Cyan Dragon Chief. His eyes were entirely clear as he looked at the young man in the driver’s seat and asked.
"To answer the Dragon Chief, we are currently on our way back to Yunju Mountain Villa."
The young man’s codename was Long Lin. Aside from White Snake, he was another top assassin of the Cyan Dragon Hall. They were considered Ye Xuan’s right-hand men.
"Dragon Chief, why did you..." Long Lin had never seen Ye Xuan drunk before, so he couldn’t help but ask.
Ye Xuan thought of Lin Aoxue once again, and his gaze dimmed slightly. Shaking his head in frustration, he tried to drive the chaotic thoughts from his mind.
"Let’s not talk about that. We—"
BANG!
Right at that moment, Ye Xuan’s car was suddenly hit by a fierce impact. The unexpected collision caused their vehicle to spin out violently. Fortunately, Long Lin’s reflexes were sharp; he rapidly spun the steering wheel and managed to stabilize the car.
"URGH... Damn it, what happened?" Ye Xuan rubbed his bruised forehead and looked back, his brows furrowed tightly.
A black Hummer was tailing them closely. It seemed the collision just now was no accident.
"Damn it. Dragon Chief, sit tight." Realizing it was a deliberate attack, Long Lin cursed loudly. He slammed on the brakes, directly clashing with the Hummer behind them.
The tires screeched against the asphalt, and the car shook violently. Before Long Lin could accelerate to pull away, Ye Xuan heard the sound of firearms being cocked.
He roared, "Get down!"
Then, Ye Xuan heard a series of whistling sounds whizzing past his ears. The car windows shattered into pieces, and tiny glass shards grazed their skin, drawing numerous thin streaks of blood.
"Fuck, these sons of bitches!"
Long Lin slammed the gas pedal to the floor, accelerating to top speed and temporarily leaving the Hummer behind.
This car had been provided by Uncle Xiang. The chassis was specially reinforced, making it far more crash-resistant than ordinary vehicles. Furthermore, light weapons were stashed under the backseat, prepared exactly for sudden emergencies like this.
This was the first time in years that Ye Xuan had encountered an attack. His blood, which had been dormant for so long, suddenly boiled. There was no trace of fear in his eyes; instead, they were filled with excitement.
Unbuckling his seatbelt, he pulled out the piece Uncle Xiang had prepared from under the back seat. Cock, aim, fire. The entire sequence of actions flowed as smoothly as water—fast and precise. With a single shot, he blew off the head of the man in the passenger seat of the pursuing car.
"WHEW, Dragon Chief, your marksmanship is still as sharp as ever." Watching everything unfold through the rearview mirror, Long Lin couldn’t help but whistle.
Ye Xuan’s shooting skills were renowned throughout the border regions of Xia Country. Long Lin had assumed that after so many years without touching a weapon, Ye Xuan would be out of practice, but his shot was just as beautiful as before.
"Keep it steady. I’ll show you what a real shish kebab looks like!"
Ye Xuan gave a confident smile and aimed once more. He counted down three seconds in his mind, then pulled the trigger.
The bullet pierced through the driver’s head, ricocheted off the metal trim of the car window, altered its trajectory, and embedded itself right between the eyebrows of the man in the back seat.
"Beautiful!"
Accompanied by Long Lin’s exclamation, the Hummer behind them crashed into the roadside guardrail. With a massive BANG, a roaring fireball rose into the pitch-black night sky.
Ye Xuan expertly secured the weapon, placed it back beneath the rear seat, and sat back down in the passenger seat.
"Dragon Chief! Long Lin! What’s the situation on your end? Uncle Xiang just told us you were attacked. We’re on our way over right now!" White Snake called soon after, sounding extremely anxious.
After Yang Bingyu left in a huff that afternoon, White Snake had followed Ye Xuan’s orders to secretly protect her. But who would have thought that right after getting Yang Bingyu home safely, Uncle Xiang would send a message saying Ye Xuan and the others were under attack, ordering White Snake and the rest to provide immediate backup.
This frightened White Snake and the team into a cold sweat. Anyone else could get into trouble, but absolutely not Ye Xuan! If anything were to happen to him, Group Four would truly be finished.
"It’s already been taken care of, you don’t need to come. Tell Uncle Xiang to investigate and see whose men they were."
In truth, Ye Xuan already had his suspects in mind; all he lacked was the evidence.
Knowing they were safe, White Snake and the others finally breathed a sigh of relief. Even without Ye Xuan’s orders, they were determined to find the mastermind behind this attack.
"Is there even a need to investigate? It must be those animals from the Qilin Hall! Dragon Chief, why don’t I just go and wipe out those scumbags? I’ve been putting up with them for way too long!" Long Lin said to Ye Xuan indignantly.
Over the years, the Qilin Hall had completely suppressed the members of Group Four, leaving everyone harboring pent-up fury. Tonight’s attack had thoroughly enraged Long Lin, and his eyes brimmed with murderous intent.
"There’s no rush. I don’t think this has much to do with the Qilin Hall," Ye Xuan said thoughtfully, resting his arm on the window and lightly tapping his slender fingers against the frame.
"Who else could it be but them?" Hearing this, Long Lin’s handsome brows instantly knit together in a knot.
"I don’t know yet. Let’s head back first."
Although Ye Xuan had a rough guess, he wasn’t entirely certain. He decided not to reveal his suspicions to Long Lin for the time being, knowing full well how impulsive the guy could be. Especially right now, with Long Lin brewing with anger, if he found out who was responsible, that person definitely wouldn’t survive the night.
"Oh my god! Ye Xuan, you’re hurt! No, we have to go to the hospital right now!"
The moment the car parked steadily at the entrance of Yunju Mountain Villa, Yang Bingyu rushed out from inside. Seeing the bloody scratches on Ye Xuan’s body from the glass shards, she let out a cry of alarm. She then grabbed Ye Xuan’s arm, clamoring to take him to the hospital to treat his wounds.
"Uh... I’m fine. These are just minor scratches. I’ll treat them myself in a bit."
To people like Ye Xuan, injuries like this were indeed nothing; they had survived countless life-and-death situations. But in the eyes of a wealthy young lady like Yang Bingyu, such wounds were already considered very serious.
