Chapter 171 - 170: About to Jump Off the Building

Yang Tao looked at Ye Xuan, caught in a difficult position.

Deep down, he actually hoped Yang Bingyu would stay. The Yang Family no longer had any younger generation members who could hold their own. But alas, the rest of the Yang Family couldn’t tolerate her.

"I know it’s difficult, but it’s not impossible," Ye Xuan said. "I assume you already know about Orioles opening a branch in Jianghai City? As long as you agree to my conditions, I can give this partnership opportunity to the Yang Family. In addition, I will invest another five hundred million into the Yang Group as compensation for Bingyu."

Just the prospect of partnering with Orioles was tempting enough, let alone Ye Xuan’s additional investment of five hundred million. Yang Tao was instantly swayed.

"Alright, I agree." His expression grew animated, unable to conceal his inner joy.

This wasn’t just a chance for the Yang Family to soar; it meant securing a massive backer. As long as Orioles was protecting the Yang Family, the Xiao Family would have to think twice before making any moves. No matter how he looked at it, this deal was entirely beneficial to the Yang Family, without a single downside.

"Don’t tell Bingyu about this. I don’t want her to know." Ye Xuan frowned in thought, deciding it was best to keep Yang Bingyu in the dark. Their relationship had reached a complete dead end, leaving virtually no room for reconciliation.

Though Yang Tao didn’t understand Ye Xuan’s intentions, it hardly mattered to him. If Ye Xuan wanted him to keep it a secret, he would simply oblige.

Three days later, Ye Xuan had settled everything. He booked flights for that evening and headed back to Jingcheng with Lin Aoxue. As for White Snake and Yu Ling, they remained in Jianghai City for the time being to protect Yang Bingyu from the shadows.

Even though Yang Tao had agreed to his conditions, Ye Xuan still couldn’t completely put his mind at ease.

"Ye Xuan, are you sure you aren’t going to visit Yang Bingyu?" Lin Aoxue asked softly, watching him smoke by the window.

She could tell that he had been deliberately avoiding Yang Bingyu recently—purposely staying away from the hospital, refusing to ask about her condition, and choosing to leave her behind.

"Forget it, she probably doesn’t want to see me right now anyway." Ye Xuan took a deep drag of his cigarette, his eyes dark and unreadable.

Remembering the harsh words Yang Bingyu had hurled at him that day and the pure resentment in her expression made his heart clench with pain. Furthermore, he worried that seeing her would shake his resolve to leave.

"Sigh... honestly, Bingyu was just speaking out of anger that day. You really shouldn’t take it to heart." Lin Aoxue didn’t know how else to persuade him, but she felt it was a true tragedy for him and Yang Bingyu to miss out on each other like this.

Just then, Yu Ling, who had stayed behind at the hospital to protect Yang Bingyu, suddenly called.

"Dragon Chief, you need to get to the hospital right now! I don’t know what got into her, but Yang Bingyu is trying to jump off the building!" Yu Ling’s frantic and exasperated voice blared through the phone.

Hearing this, Ye Xuan and Lin Aoxue instantly tensed up.

"What did you just say? Why would she jump? Keep an eye on her—I’m coming over right now!" Ye Xuan snatched his car keys from the table and bolted out the door.

Meanwhile, Yu Ling was miserable. He stood nearby, frantically scratching his head as he stared at Yang Bingyu, who was already leaning halfway off the rooftop ledge. He had only stepped away to use the restroom, and she had managed to sneak out of her ward. Dodging the doctors and nurses, she made a beeline for the roof to end her life.

Fortunately, some people in the garden below spotted her and immediately alerted the hospital staff.

Several doctors and nurses had joined Yu Ling on the rooftop, desperately calling out to Yang Bingyu in an attempt to pacify her. Rescue workers had already arrived on the ground floor and were rushing to deploy safety cushions.

"Yang Bingyu, please calm down! Don’t do anything reckless!"

"You’re still young, don’t throw your life away! Think about your parents, your family—the world is still a beautiful place!"

"Please, hold on tight! Don’t let go!"

The medical staff were practically sick with worry. It was one thing for her to refuse treatment, but attempting suicide by jumping off the building was completely out of hand. It seemed completely senseless. She was beautiful and came from a wealthy family. So what if she had a miscarriage? Was that really a reason to throw her life away? Besides, if she cared about the baby so much, she shouldn’t have thrown the very tantrum that caused her miscarriage in the first place. She simply didn’t know how good she had it.

Perched on the half-meter-high parapet, Yang Bingyu gazed out over the city below. A profound sense of rootlessness washed over her. Her grandfather had passed away, and now, even her baby was gone. She genuinely couldn’t find a single reason to keep living.

WHOOSH. The freezing wind whipped through her hair, scattering the teardrops falling from her eyes.

She looked down at the dense, dark crowd of onlookers gathered below, her heart shivering with a freezing despair. Out of all those people, how many actually cared whether she lived or died?

"They’re gone... My baby is gone forever." She muttered the words under her breath, her voice heavy with endless despair.

The medical staff could see her lips moving, but the howling wind drowned out her voice. However, with hearing far superior to an ordinary person’s, Yu Ling heard her loud and clear. His heart gave a slight jolt as a pang of sympathy welled up inside him.

Yang Bingyu truly was a tragic figure. Losing her biological parents at a young age was bad enough, but she had also been separated from her only brother. When she finally found him, he died a premature death. Upon discovering her true identity, the Yang Family had covertly schemed to eliminate her. Then, the grandfather who was the only one to dote on her was murdered, and she suffered a miscarriage.

Honestly, with so many tragedies striking in just a few short months, it would be a miracle if she hadn’t gone mad.

"Bingyu! Don’t jump!"

By this time, Ye Xuan and Lin Aoxue had arrived at the hospital. They stood on the ground floor, craning their necks to look up at Yang Bingyu on the roof. Seeing her swaying on the ledge with half her body over the drop, Ye Xuan’s heart leaped into his throat. He shouted out to her at the top of his lungs.

Yang Bingyu had been staring absently into the distance. It wasn’t until she heard Ye Xuan’s voice that a flicker of life finally sparked in her dull, hollow eyes. She mechanically lowered her head to look down at him.

She had thought her feelings for him were entirely dead—that she was utterly devoid of hope. Yet, seeing the sheer panic and worry etched across his face, it felt as if a fishbone had caught in her throat. An intense, suffocating ache gripped both her body and her heart.

"Bingyu, just stay right there and don’t move! I’m coming up!"

Refusing to waste a single second, Ye Xuan shoved his way through the crowd and sprinted toward the roof. With the elevators overwhelmed by the crowds, he waited only a few seconds before abandoning them and darting into the stairwell. It took him a mere three minutes to scale over twenty floors.

BANG!

Ye Xuan slammed the rooftop door open and bolted out, gasping for breath.

"Bingyu, please come down. Be good." Trying his hardest to steady his breathing and soften his tone, he coaxed her with the gentlest voice he could muster. As he spoke, he slowly inched toward the ledge.

"Don’t come any closer! Stop right there! If you take another step, I’ll jump!"
