Chapter 172 - 171: Die Together!
Chapter 172 - 171: Die Together!
Yang Bingyu stared blankly at Ye Xuan for a moment, but when the distance between them narrowed to a mere three meters, she suddenly grew frantic. She looked at him with sheer terror, her eyes filled with fear and vigilance. Watching her body sway precariously on the edge, the crowd gasped in horror.
Ye Xuan’s heart nearly stopped. Not daring to move another muscle, his body went rigid. Standing rooted to the spot like a wooden statue, he continued to try and soothe her.
"Okay, okay, I won’t come any closer. Just sit still. Grab the edge of the wall. Don’t fall."
Though Yang Bingyu still glared at him with resentment, she slowly quieted down and stopped thrashing around. Seeing this, the doctors and nurses breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
Thank goodness she hadn’t fallen. If a suicide jump happened at their hospital—and the victim was the eldest daughter of the Yang Family, Yang Bingyu—the ensuing news broadcast would ruin the hospital’s reputation forever.
"Bingyu, whatever it is, we can talk it out slowly. Don’t do anything foolish," Ye Xuan coaxed, his voice trembling slightly. "Be a good girl, listen to me. Come down, please?"
Looking at Yang Bingyu, it was as if he could see Chen Hao’s silhouette superimposed over hers. He felt that Chen Hao was blaming him—blaming him for driving his only surviving relative to such a desperate state.
"Fine! If you want me to come down, call Vermilion Bird right now and tell her to kill Night Rose!" At the mention of Night Rose, the hatred in Yang Bingyu’s eyes deepened.
Ye Xuan hadn’t expected her to make such a demand, and he was instantly put in a difficult position.
"Bingyu, this matter isn’t what you think it is. Night Rose didn’t kill your grandfather; her apprentice, Butterfly, was the one who did it. You’re just blinded by hatred right now and looking for someone to vent your anger on. I already told you, I will definitely give you an explanation for all of this. Can you just trust me?"
Hearing Ye Xuan’s explanation, Yang Bingyu laughed. The very last shred of hope she held for him was entirely extinguished.
"It seems that between me and that murderer, you still chose her. Ye Xuan, the biggest regret of my life is meeting you. I hope that in our next lives, we never cross paths again."
With those final words, Yang Bingyu closed her eyes and let her body slowly tip backward over the edge.
Ye Xuan’s eyes widened in horror. Screaming her name, he lunged forward.
The onlookers erupted into terrified shrieks. Some of the more timid girls immediately covered their eyes with their hands, too afraid to watch what was about to happen.
Fortunately, in the nick of time, Ye Xuan managed to grab Yang Bingyu’s arm with one hand while desperately clutching the edge of the wall with the other. The sudden, violent pull of her falling weight sent a tearing pain shooting up his arm, but he didn’t dare loosen his grip. If he let go, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
"Let go!" Yang Bingyu opened her eyes and looked up at Ye Xuan, who was hanging over the wall. Her face was as cold as ice.
"No! I can’t let go! I promised your brother I would protect you." Ye Xuan shook his head vigorously, his fingers tightening their hold.
A self-deprecating smile touched Yang Bingyu’s lips. She raised her free arm and began prying at Ye Xuan’s fingers. "From the very beginning, the only reason you’ve ever treated me well was because of my brother. I, Yang Bingyu, do not need your pity."
Ye Xuan had never imagined that she harbored such thoughts. For a moment, he didn’t know how to answer. All he knew was that he was terrified of her dying. He couldn’t let her die.
"Bingyu, please! Don’t let go!"
It was the first time in his entire life that Ye Xuan had begged. Even five years ago, as he watched his best friend die right in front of him, the word had never crossed his lips. Now, his eyes were brimming with fear and panic.
But Yang Bingyu was completely resolute in her desire to die; she couldn’t hear a word he said.
Yu Ling and the others rushed over, trying to pull the two of them back up. However, Yang Bingyu refused to cooperate. Not only did she continue prying at his fingers, but she also began violently thrashing her body around.
Watching her slowly slip further down, Ye Xuan’s eyes grew wet. "Bingyu, do you really hate me that much?" he choked out.
"Yes! I hate you!" Yang Bingyu answered without a single shred of hesitation.
"Alright. Then I’ll die with you."
Hearing her answer, Ye Xuan’s heart twisted in agony. With that, he let go of the edge of the wall.
At that exact moment, Lin Aoxue reached the rooftop. Seeing the two figures plummeting over the edge, the world spun around her.
"Ye Xuan!" she let out a heart-wrenching scream and collapsed onto the ground.
Hearing Lin Aoxue’s voice, a single tear slipped from the corner of Ye Xuan’s eye, filled with profound guilt. Between Lin Aoxue and Yang Bingyu, he had to sacrifice one. He owed Yang Bingyu far too much. He could only wait for their next life to treat Lin Aoxue well.
With a forceful pull on Yang Bingyu’s arm, Ye Xuan swapped their positions in mid-air. He positioned himself underneath, wrapping his arms tightly around her.
The cold mask on Yang Bingyu’s face finally shattered. She had never expected Ye Xuan to choose to die alongside her. Tears instantly poured from her eyes. Clutching tightly to his clothes, she roared at the top of her lungs, "Why are you doing this?! Are you crazy?!"
"I’m sorry," was all Ye Xuan said. One arm was wrapped around her waist, while his other hand shielded the top of her head.
In that very last second, the rescue air cushion at the bottom of the building was finally fully deployed. Ye Xuan and Yang Bingyu crashed into the cushion. The massive impact knocked him unconscious instantly. As for Yang Bingyu, aside from some chest tightness and dizziness, she was completely unharmed.
The rescue workers rushed over in a flurry, quickly transporting the unconscious Ye Xuan to the emergency room.
Even after being pulled to safety and seated on a bench outside the ER, Yang Bingyu remained completely shell-shocked.
Lin Aoxue stumbled over and delivered a resounding SLAP across Yang Bingyu’s face.
"If you want to die, don’t drag other people down with you!" Lin Aoxue screamed, her eyes red and her expression furious.
Had this been the past, Yang Bingyu would have immediately struck back the moment Lin Aoxue slapped her. But right now, she didn’t react at all.
Seeing her looking so utterly lost, Lin Aoxue didn’t know how to vent the rest of her fury. Gritting her teeth, she said nothing more and sat down on another bench.
After more than an hour of emergency treatment, Ye Xuan was finally wheeled out. His left arm was wrapped in bandages and set in a cast. His eyes were tightly shut, and his brows were slightly furrowed; even in his deep sleep, it was clear he was in pain.
"Doctor, how is he? Is he going to be okay?" Lin Aoxue asked, grabbing the doctor’s arm in worry.
"It’s nothing too serious. He broke his arm from the fall, but with some time to rest and recover, he’ll be fine."
