Chapter 33: Already Married

Moreover, the questions left Lin Aoxue completely baffled. What did they mean by "expectant mother" and "having a baby"? What kind of questions were these?

"Alright, alright, save your questions for later. I’m taking Xue’er inside first."

Fearing that Lin Aoxue would lose her temper, Su Xiaobai quickly stepped forward to shield her from the reporters’ frantic inquiries.

"Su Xiaobai! What did you tell those reporters?!" Lin Aoxue demanded sharply with a dark expression once they were inside the Civil Affairs Bureau.

Faced with a furious Lin Aoxue, Su Xiaobai showed a rare bout of good temper. Smiling mischievously, he grabbed her hand and coaxed her gently.

"Hehe, don’t be mad. Those reporters just asked me if we were having a shotgun wedding, and I accidentally let it slip."

"What do you mean, ’let it slip’?! Su Xiaobai, when have I ever done something like that with you? You... you’re absolutely shameless!"

Lin Aoxue turned pale with anger. Her finger trembled slightly as she pointed at him.

"Lin Aoxue, you’d better quit while you’re ahead and not push your luck. Since you’ve come to the Civil Affairs Bureau, isn’t it only a matter of time before you become my woman? Drop the fucking high-and-mighty act."

His good temper hadn’t even lasted three seconds. Hearing her words, Su Xiaobai once again revealed his true colors. He grabbed Lin Aoxue by the wrist, his eyes filled with a heavy warning.

Feeling as though her wrist was about to be crushed, Lin Aoxue held back her tears, turned her head away, and fell silent.

"Don’t give me that miserable long face later. Today is a good day, and you need to smile."

Seeing her reluctant expression, Su Xiaobai grew furious. He couldn’t figure out why she had preferred to marry Ye Xuan instead of him back then.

He wondered if the Lin Family had known Ye Xuan’s identity from the very beginning.

He thought that shouldn’t be the case. If they had known Ye Xuan was the Cyan Dragon Chief, they wouldn’t have treated him the way they did all these years, and Lin Aoxue would never have divorced him.

After mulling it over, Su Xiaobai simply couldn’t make sense of the situation, so he shook his head and decided to drop the matter.

"Greetings, Eldest Young Master Su, Miss Lin. My name is Jiang Kai, and I’ll be assisting you today. Did you bring your household registers and ID cards? I’ll need to bother you to go through the standard procedure."

A man in a staff uniform had hurriedly approached Su Xiaobai as soon as he saw him. His attitude was incredibly respectful, and his face was plastered with a fawning, ingratiating smile.

Su Xiaobai puckered his lips toward the bodyguard behind him, gesturing for the staff member to get the documents from him.

Standing to the side, Lin Guodong hastily dug Lin Aoxue’s household register and ID card out of his bag.

After receiving the documents, Jiang Kai quickly retreated, not daring to delay for a single moment.

"Eldest Young Master Su, since you and Xue’er are getting your marriage certificate, when do you plan to hold the wedding?" Lin Guodong asked with a sycophantic expression while they waited for the paperwork to be processed.

Logically speaking, once Su Xiaobai married Lin Aoxue, Lin Guodong would be his father-in-law and wouldn’t need to speak so politely.

However, Lin Guodong didn’t dare put on the airs of an elder. If he accidentally offended Su Xiaobai, the Lin Family would be ruined.

"The Su Family will handle the wedding arrangements. You don’t need to worry about it," Su Xiaobai replied flatly. Not particularly eager to entertain his future father-in-law, he tossed out the sentence and fell silent.

Feeling incredibly awkward, Lin Guodong’s mouth twitched before he sat down, realizing he had made a fool of himself.

For some reason, his thoughts drifted to Ye Xuan. Back when Ye Xuan and Lin Aoxue got married, Lin Guodong had been so arrogant and commanding. Ye Xuan would never have dared to speak to him like this.

He thought Su Xiaobai was completely uncultured, showing absolutely no respect when speaking to his elders.

Watching the deflated Lin Guodong, Lin Aoxue felt a whirlwind of mixed emotions.

Even before the marriage, Su Xiaobai was already treating her and the Lin Family with such disdain. How much better could things possibly get after they were married?

She wondered if becoming a wealthy socialite wife was really worth it.

"Eldest Young Master Su, could I have a word with you in private?"

While everyone was waiting for the results, Jiang Kai ran over looking deeply troubled. He stared at Su Xiaobai, seemingly hesitant to speak.

Su Xiaobai raised an eyebrow, showing no intention of getting up.

"Just say whatever it is."

"Well... it would be best if you came with me." Jiang Kai glanced at Lin Aoxue, looking extremely conflicted.

Seeing his demeanor, Su Xiaobai clicked his tongue in annoyance. He stood up and followed Jiang Kai to a nearby corner.

"Eldest Young Master Su, have you ever gotten married abroad?" Jiang Kai asked nervously.

Su Xiaobai was dumbfounded by the question. It took him a long moment to process what the man meant.

"Bullshit! How the fuck could I be married?! What the hell are you guys doing? Hurry up and process the documents, or pack your bags and get out!"

Snapping back to reality, Su Xiaobai flew into a rage, unleashing a torrent of curses directly into Jiang Kai’s face.

Jiang Kai could only smile awkwardly and apologize, not daring to utter a single word of rebuttal.

"Yes, yes, of course. I must have made a mistake. I’ll go check it again right away."

With that, Jiang Kai scurried back to his desk. But to his absolute bewilderment, no matter how many times he checked, the computer system clearly showed that Su Xiaobai had married a foreigner abroad in December of the previous year.

He wondered how Su Xiaobai could possibly register a marriage with Lin Aoxue if he was already married. If they processed the paperwork, wouldn’t it be bigamy?

"Hey, are you done yet? Eldest Young Master Su is getting impatient," one of Su Xiaobai’s bodyguards urged as he walked over, interrupting Jiang Kai’s panic.

"This... this... ugh... I can’t process this!"

Jiang Kai looked at his computer, then glanced at Su Xiaobai sitting in the distance, his face scrunched up in agony.

He silently cursed his luck. Knowing that Su Xiaobai and Lin Aoxue were coming to get their marriage certificate, he had specifically swapped shifts with a coworker just to suck up to the young master. Who could have known things would turn out like this?

He realized this was a stroke of absolute terrible luck.

"Telling me that is useless. Go tell Eldest Young Master Su yourself."

The bodyguard was completely unsympathetic. Seeing that Jiang Kai couldn’t process the documents, he simply turned on his heel and called Su Xiaobai over.

"What do you mean? What do you mean you can’t process it? How many times do I have to tell you? I’ve never been fucking married! Hurry up and get this sorted out. I don’t have time to waste with you!"

Su Xiaobai glared at Jiang Kai with sheer fury, slamming his hand forcefully against the desk.

Jiang Kai broke into a cold sweat, his words stumbling as he spoke.

"Eldest Young Master Su, I-I’m not trying to m-make things difficult for you. The problem is th-that the computer shows y-you were already married abroad last December!"

Throwing caution to the wind, Jiang Kai swiveled the monitor around to show the information directly to Su Xiaobai.

On the screen, the word "Married" was glaringly displayed under Su Xiaobai’s profile. Even worse, his listed spouse was an obese, dark-skinned, bizarre-looking middle-aged woman.
