Chapter 54: Then Just Go Die

Soon, the two arrived at the city hospital. White Snake had mostly recovered and was expected to be discharged in a day or two.

"Dragon Chief, you’re here. Quick..." Upon seeing Ye Xuan, White Snake hurriedly stood up from the bed to greet him.

But halfway through his sentence, his expression instantly soured when Far stepped into the room.

"Why are you here? Get out. I don’t want to see you."

Sure enough, White Snake’s attitude toward Far was as terrible as ever. Without even giving him a chance to speak, he immediately demanded he leave.

"I told Far to come. Let him in," Ye Xuan said with a hint of helplessness, glancing at Far, who was standing at the door, too afraid to enter.

Far had always been arrogant and lawless in front of others, yet he turned into an absolute coward exclusively around White Snake. Ye Xuan really didn’t know what to say about him.

"Dragon Chief, you know... Forget it, come in." Hearing Ye Xuan’s words, White Snake was clearly dissatisfied, but in the end, he obeyed the order and let Far inside.

"Uh... well, it really has been a long time. Are you doing alright?" Far stood helplessly in front of White Snake. Not knowing what to say, he scrambled for a random topic.

White Snake let out a cold laugh. "I’m in the hospital. Do I look alright to you? If you don’t know how to speak, then shut up. No one will think you’re mute."

Those words choked Far so hard he could barely respond. He turned his head, looking at Ye Xuan with a face full of grievance. He had told Ye Xuan he shouldn’t come, yet the man had insisted. With White Snake acting like this, how were they supposed to reconcile?

"White Snake!" Ye Xuan called out, feeling a headache coming on.

White Snake pursed his lips in sheer reluctance, then laid back down on the bed in a fit of pique. He already knew why Ye Xuan had brought Far to the hospital, but even after all these years, he still couldn’t overcome the hurdle in his heart. Whenever he thought about how his sister, Bell, had died because of Far, infinite hatred surged within him.

Furthermore, this Far was truly detestable. He constantly claimed to love Bell so much, yet over the past few years, he had been womanizing and sleeping with countless women. His sister had traded her life for such a lecher; White Snake truly felt she had died in vain.

"You two have a good talk. When I come back in later, I hope to see you both reconciled." Ye Xuan intended to give them some time alone. After speaking, he prepared to leave.

White Snake was immediately displeased. He sat up to stop him. "Dragon Chief, I have nothing to talk to him about. Take him away."

"White Snake, that’s an order!" Seeing that a soft approach wouldn’t work, Ye Xuan had no choice but to play hardball. He outright commanded White Snake to talk to Far.

White Snake’s face scrunched up. Despite a million protests in his heart, he still obeyed the order. With a cold snort, he walked over to the window and turned his back to Far.

Ye Xuan patted Far’s shoulder, his eyes offering encouragement. Far, his face full of gloom, twitched the corners of his mouth into a helpless smile.

Soon, only White Snake and Far were left in the hospital room.

Without Ye Xuan’s presence, the atmosphere in the room practically dropped to absolute zero. Staring at White Snake’s back, Far opened and closed his mouth repeatedly. He had organized his words countless times in his head, but in the end, he couldn’t force out a single syllable.

"If you really have nothing to say, then don’t. I will never forgive you in this lifetime. Don’t ever come looking for me again; I don’t want to see you," White Snake said coldly, gazing off into the distance with a complex look in his eyes. His expression had grown even uglier due to Far’s prolonged silence.

"I... I just don’t know where to start," Far said after a pause, his brows tightly knitted.

White Snake’s gaze flickered, but he kept his lips tightly pressed together and didn’t reply.

"White Snake, regarding what happened back then, it’s true that I failed to protect Bell. I know that the mistake I made will never earn your forgiveness in this lifetime. But I truly loved Bell. If I could, I would rather I had been the one to die that day." Taking a deep breath, Far finally voiced the words he had practiced in his heart countless times.

Even after all these years, whenever he spoke Bell’s name, his heart still ached agonizingly. Countless times, he had awoken crying from his midnight dreams. Had it not been for the massive upheaval in the Four Palaces, the turbulent domestic situation, and Bell’s dying wish repeatedly begging him to take good care of White Snake, Far would have followed Bell into the afterlife long ago.

"Heh, you love Bell? Where do you get the nerve to say that?" White Snake sneered, then turned around to glare at Far, his face as cold as frost.

"If you truly loved my sister, you would have stayed faithful to her, rather than getting tangled up with countless women. What I absolutely cannot forgive is that barely half a year after my sister passed away, you were already bringing people home to fool around with!

"To think that my sister traded her life for an animal like you... I truly feel it wasn’t worth it for her! If I could, I’d kill you right now just to relieve the hatred in my heart!"

In these words, White Snake didn’t hide his loathing for Far in the slightest. His fists were clenched tight as he fought to restrain the urge to attack him.

"I... I’m sorry..." Far lacked the strength to defend himself. He hung his head low, the aura of sorrow surrounding him growing even heavier.

He only slept with those countless women because he wanted to find the faintest trace of Bell in them. He wanted to use that method to numb himself. Only through this could Far stem the tide of his longing for Bell, continuing to exist like a walking corpse.

"Stop talking and get the hell out! Even looking at you for another second makes me sick." White Snake waved his hand with a staunchly unyielding attitude, clearly having lost all patience to converse with him.

Far gritted his teeth. His eyes flickered, and then he dropped straight to his knees in front of White Snake. This was his only chance to earn White Snake’s forgiveness; no matter what, he had to make things clear.

"White Snake, I know I’m a bastard, but heaven and earth can attest to my sincere love for Bell. Even if you asked me to die for her, I’d be willing. I don’t expect you to forgive me, but I must apologize.

"For failing to protect Bell back then, for my reckless behavior over these past few years, and for the brotherhood we once shared, I apologize to you here and now."

Looking at Far, who was lowering himself to the dirt, White Snake couldn’t describe how he felt. This man was someone revered by the world, yet here he was, kneeling before him. When had he become so lowly?

However, the moment he thought of Bell, the wavering and pity in his heart were instantly suppressed. He was pitiful now, but his sister had paid with her life. Compared to his sister, what did this amount to?

"If that’s the case, then go die."
