Chapter 70: Stray Dog
Chapter 70: Stray Dog
As soon as the announcement was released, the entire city was in an uproar. Almost everyone was discussing the Yang Family expelling Yang Jie.
In a certain hotel in Jianghai City, a furious Yang Jie smashed everything in sight.
"Damn it! I’m a bona fide young master of the Yang Family! How could that old geezer kick me out!
"That bitch, Yang Bingyu! She’s been working against me since we were kids!
"She’s clearly just a wild brat from god knows where, yet that old geezer treats her better than his own biological grandson!"
Staring at the news broadcast about himself on the television, his expression contorted into a savage, murderous glare.
In truth, Yang Jie hadn’t known Yang Bingyu’s real identity; he had only accidentally learned of it while eavesdropping on a secret conversation Yang Kui was having with someone else. If he had known that Yang Bingyu had a powerful backer like the Cyan Dragon Chief behind her, he wouldn’t have dared to scheme against her even if his life depended on it.
BANG BANG BANG.
Right as he was fuming, a sudden series of knocks pounded against the door, the noise accompanied by aggressive cursing.
"Fuck! Who is it?!"
Already in a foul mood, Yang Jie hurled a curse and yanked the door open. The moment it opened, someone shoved him hard, sending him crashing onto his rear.
"Fuck! Who are you people? How dare you shove me! Do you have any idea who I am? You’ve all got a death wish, don’t you?!" Yang Jie roared at the four or five burly men who had suddenly barged into the room.
At that moment, a man in a suit and tie stepped out from behind the group of thugs, staring down at Yang Jie with utter disdain.
"How could we not know who you are? You’re just a stray dog expelled by the Yang Family. Without their protection, you ain’t worth a damn!
"Beat him! Beat him half to death! Break both of his arms—let’s see how he smashes things then!"
At his command, the burly men lunged straight for Yang Jie.
Used to throwing his weight around and bullying others, Yang Jie had never faced a situation like this. He froze, utterly terrified and at a loss for what to do. He scrambled to escape, but someone grabbed him by the back of his collar. A second later, a relentless barrage of punches and kicks rained down on him.
Yang Jie felt like he was going to die. His initial angry curses quickly turned into desperate pleas, until eventually, he lacked the strength to even beg for mercy.
"Alright, that’s enough. Just throw him out. Don’t let him die in here, it’s bad luck."
The hotel manager didn’t dare beat Yang Jie to death. If they caught a lawsuit, it would be a massive headache. He waved his hand, signaling the thugs to drag a dying Yang Jie into the hotel’s back alley and leave him to fend for himself.
"Help... help me..."
Covered in blood, Yang Jie lay in the sewage-filled alley, weak cries for help slipping from his lips. He was truly terrified this time. The sensation of his life slowly slipping away filled his eyes with absolute dread. Staring up at the azure sky, Yang Jie prayed countless times in his heart, "God, someone, anyone, please save me! I don’t want to die!"
Finally, in his depths of despair, he heard the most beautiful sound in the world.
Two figures were walking toward him from a distance. Listening to the TAP TAP TAP of their approaching footsteps, Yang Jie’s eyes erupted with a burning desire to survive. Mustering every last ounce of his strength, he rolled over and called out to the two figures.
"Help! Please... save me..."
The moment those words left his lips, Yang Jie’s vision went black, and he fell completely unconscious.
"Tsk... Yang Zhennan really is ruthless to his own biological grandson."
Staring down at Yang Jie, who had been beaten until he was practically unrecognizable, Su Xiaobai clicked his tongue, his face full of mockery.
"It seems Yang Jie did something to infuriate Ye Xuan. Otherwise, the Yang Family would never abandon him like this," Fierce Tiger said, hitting the nail on the head. He didn’t even need to investigate to guess the gist of the situation. If Yang Jie hadn’t offended Ye Xuan, why else would they discard a direct descendant of their bloodline?
"Bring him along. This guy will be very useful to us in the future." Unable to stomach their filthy surroundings for another second, Su Xiaobai furrowed his brows in utter disgust.
Fierce Tiger didn’t say another word. He simply grabbed one of Yang Jie’s arms and dragged him out of the back alley like a bag of trash.
"Bingyu, even if you’re angry with Grandpa, you still need to eat. You haven’t had a single bite in a day and a night. How can your body handle this?"
Standing outside Yang Bingyu’s bedroom door, Yang Tao tried to persuade her, his face full of helplessness. Ever since Yang Bingyu had learned of her true identity, she had locked herself in her room, refusing to see anyone. This had the entire Yang Family worried sick. Right now, Bingyu was essentially the pillar of the Yang Family. If something happened to her, the entire family would suffer the consequences.
"Patriarch, the young miss hasn’t made a single sound. Could it be..."
After calling out for ages without a single response from Yang Bingyu, the old butler grew restless and looked at Yang Tao with a deeply worried expression.
"Quick! Break the door down!" Realizing the terrifying possibility, Yang Tao’s expression shifted drastically. He immediately ordered the servants behind him to break the door down.
"Bingyu! What happened?!"
The moment the door burst open, Yang Tao rushed inside. He frantically searched the room for Yang Bingyu, eventually finding her curled up in a small corner of the bedroom. Yang Bingyu’s head rested against the wall, her face stained with tears. Her eyes were empty and lifeless. Even as Yang Tao and the others barged in, she didn’t show a single flicker of emotion.
This frightened Yang Tao out of his wits. He gently patted Yang Bingyu’s cheeks, desperately trying to snap her out of it. But no matter how much he called out to her, Yang Bingyu maintained a vacant stare. Left with absolutely no other choice, Yang Tao rushed her to the hospital.
"Doctor, how is my daughter?" In the hospital ward, Yang Tao looked at the doctor nervously.
"There are no signs of physical trauma. I believe the young miss is primarily suffering from psychological distress. She has clearly experienced a massive shock. If you want her to return to normal, she will have to overcome whatever mental hurdle is holding her back."
The doctor put away his small examination penlight and shrugged helplessly. There was truly no medical treatment for psychological trauma like this.
"I see... *Sigh*... Thank you, Doctor."
Yang Tao looked at the still-vacant Yang Bingyu with a deeply troubled expression. Wasn’t her psychological trauma caused by the truth of her lineage? If she couldn’t reconcile with it herself, no one could help her solve the problem. He was completely at a loss for what to do now.
The news of Yang Bingyu’s hospitalization quickly reached Ye Xuan’s ears, but he had no intention of visiting the hospital. White Snake was extremely puzzled by his reaction.
"Dragon Chief, Bingyu is in the hospital. Are you sure you aren’t going to visit her?"
White Snake wasn’t aware of what had transpired over the past few days, and Ye Xuan had no intention of making it public. After all, it concerned Yang Bingyu’s innocence. The fewer people who knew, the less harm would come to her.
"I won’t go for now. You head to the hospital and keep her company. Just make sure she stays safe."
Ye Xuan’s brows remained tightly locked together in a deep frown. It wasn’t that he didn’t worry about Yang Bingyu; rather, he simply had no idea how to face her.
After something like that had happened, could the two of them ever go back to how they used to be?
