Chapter 74: Was It Wrong?

Soon, the Yang Family announced the upcoming wedding of Yang Bingyu and Ye Xuan.

On the other side, Lin Aoxue also issued a statement declaring that she had completely severed ties with Ye Xuan, and the two were now total strangers.

The storm of public opinion finally subsided.

Although the wedding timeline was tight, the Yang Family still arranged all the necessary procedures. The first order of business was choosing a wedding dress. Early in the morning, an excited Yang Bingyu dragged Ye Xuan to the largest bridal shop in Jianghai City to begin the selection.

The dazzling array of gowns completely overwhelmed her; she felt that every single one was beautiful.

"Ye Xuan, which one do you think looks best? Help me choose," Yang Bingyu asked, turning to look at Ye Xuan, who was sitting on the sofa.

Ye Xuan glanced up briefly before lowering his head again. "I think they’re all fine. You’ll look beautiful in whichever one you wear."

This perfunctory attitude instantly upset her, yet she didn’t dare say much. Even though Ye Xuan had stayed by her side and agreed to marry her, Yang Bingyu could still feel that his attitude toward her had changed. In the past, he would treat her well without any reservations, caring for her and spoiling her. But now, she couldn’t shake the feeling that he was evading her feelings.

"White Snake, do you think I was wrong to force Ye Xuan to stay by my side?" Clutching a wedding dress tightly in her hands, Yang Bingyu asked White Snake, who stood nearby, her face full of distress.

Hearing this, White Snake frowned slightly. He looked at the two of them and sighed helplessly, "Before you do something, you have to consider whether you’ll regret it. If you won’t, then do it.

"I can’t judge whether what you’re doing is right or wrong. As long as you feel it’s the right thing to do, that’s enough."

Many things couldn’t be judged solely by their current appearances; numerous problems and hidden dangers required long-term observation to be uncovered. He didn’t know whether Ye Xuan and Yang Bingyu’s marriage was a good or bad thing either. Only time would tell.

Listening to White Snake’s words, Yang Bingyu fell silent. She asked herself if she would regret marrying Ye Xuan.

She certainly wanted to marry him, but it was obvious that the person he loved wasn’t her. If she only considered her own feelings, she wouldn’t regret it. However, she also didn’t want to make him unhappy. For a moment, she had no idea how to judge the situation.

"Ye Xuan, after we get married, let’s go abroad for our honeymoon," Yang Bingyu said, walking over to him and gently wrapping her arms around his. Her tone carried a hint of coquettish affection.

A honeymoon was the best way to deepen the bond between a husband and wife. She hoped that through this trip, Ye Xuan would fall in love with her and finally let go of Lin Aoxue.

Ye Xuan’s eyes flickered. He slipped his arm out of her embrace and replied in the same lukewarm tone, "Whatever you want. I’ll follow your arrangements."

The hot-tempered Yang Bingyu simply couldn’t accept this version of Ye Xuan. The anger and dissatisfaction she had been suppressing these past few days instantly exploded. She sprang up from the sofa and roared at him, "Ye Xuan! What kind of attitude is this? If you really don’t want to marry me, just say it! Why are you torturing me like this?

"Am I to blame for everything that’s happened? Is it a sin to love you and want to marry you? Why are you treating me like this?!"

Seeing this, the shop assistants tactfully withdrew, leaving the couple with some privacy.

Looking at Yang Bingyu’s aggrieved and furious face, a faint trace of pity and heartache flashed through Ye Xuan’s eyes. In truth, she was the biggest victim in all of this. But he simply couldn’t go back to the way things were. In front of her, he always felt like a sinner.

Trying hard to adjust his emotions, Ye Xuan forced a smile and said gently, "You’re not wrong. I’m sorry, it’s my attitude that’s the problem. Please don’t be upset. Have you picked out a dress? Let me help you see how it looks."

Yang Bingyu was choked with frustration. She really didn’t know what to do with him.

"I’m not choosing anymore! We’re going home!" she said angrily, slamming the wedding dress she was holding onto the sofa.

Ye Xuan looked at her retreating figure, feeling utterly helpless.

"Don’t follow me! I don’t want to see you right now!" she snapped, turning her head back when she saw him catching up.

Left with no other choice, Ye Xuan had White Snake escort Yang Bingyu back to Yunju Mountain Villa while he left on his own.

Driving aimlessly, Ye Xuan unconsciously found himself at the cozy little apartment he and Lin Aoxue had lived in after getting married. He originally just wanted to take a look from downstairs, but instead, he saw a real estate agent leading a middle-aged couple out of the building.

Ye Xuan hurriedly got out of the car and approached them. "Hello, excuse me, are you here to view the apartment?"

Although they didn’t know him, they nodded politely.

A sharp pang of pain pierced Ye Xuan’s heart. He stumbled and nearly fell, but the agent managed to steady him just in time.

"Sir, are you alright?" the agent asked, frowning at him.

Ye Xuan steadied himself and signaled to the agent that he was fine. Then, he turned to the couple and said, "Sir, Madam, this place actually used to be my home. I wonder if you would be willing to part with it and let me have it?"

Hearing this, the couple immediately looked displeased.

The man said, "Look here, young man, regardless of whether you used to live here or not, it’s currently on the market with a clear price tag, isn’t it?

"Since it’s being sold, it’s first come, first served. Anyway, we’ve already set our sights on it and paid the deposit. For you to suddenly step in and say you want to buy it... that’s a bit out of line, don’t you think?"

Ye Xuan naturally understood this logic. Anyone would be unhappy if asked to give up something they had already decided on for no good reason. He thought for a moment before addressing the man, "How about this: you can go ahead and buy the apartment, and then transfer it to me.

"Rest assured, no matter how much you pay for it, I will buy it from you at double the price."

Upon hearing that he was willing to pay double, the couple was immediately tempted. They exchanged a glance and quickly reached a consensus.

"That works for us," the man said. "But you said it yourself—double the price. You’d better not be stringing us along."

And just like that, Ye Xuan bought back the cozy little apartment he had shared with Lin Aoxue for a staggering twenty million.

Stepping inside, he looked at the furnishings, a complex mix of emotions churning in his heart. Five years of memories played in his mind like a roll of film. Ye Xuan buried his face in the sofa and wept bitterly.

He and Lin Aoxue had shared their first time here. Every corner of the apartment held traces of their presence; every single object carried their shared memories.

How could she bear to sell it?
