Chapter 76: Something Happened to Yang Zhennan

"Bingyu, don’t cry just yet. Send me your current location, and I’ll head over right away," Ye Xuan said, comforting Yang Bingyu while getting dressed.

Although Ye Xuan didn’t particularly like Yang Zhennan, the Yang family couldn’t do without him right now. If Yang Zhennan was gone, the mole in the Yang family would act with absolute impunity, and Yang Bingyu’s safety would be completely compromised.

Yang Bingyu responded through her tears and hung up the phone. Ye Xuan finished dressing. He wrapped an arm around Lin Aoxue’s shoulders and left a kiss on her forehead.

"Be good, I’m heading out. Wait for me for three months. After three months, I will definitely fulfill my promise."

Lin Aoxue nodded gently, watching Ye Xuan leave. Looking out at the night view of Jianghai City, she suddenly felt a sense of foreboding. It seemed the winds of change were about to sweep through Jianghai City.

Ye Xuan soon rushed to the hospital. Upon seeing him, Yang Bingyu threw herself into his arms, sobbing.

"SOB... Ye Xuan... what should I do? I’m so scared..."

Ye Xuan reached out and gently patted Yang Bingyu’s back, consoling her. "Everything will be fine. Don’t worry. Stop crying."

After finally managing to calm Yang Bingyu down, Ye Xuan turned to look for White Snake. "What happened? Is Yang Zhennan’s health really that bad?" He couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Yang Zhennan was usually quite hale and hearty; he shouldn’t have collapsed like this.

"About two hours after I escorted Yang Bingyu back to Yunju Mountain Villa, Yang Kui called, saying that Yang Zhennan might not make it.

"I then brought Yang Bingyu to the hospital. As for what exactly happened, I’ve already sent someone to investigate," White Snake said. He glanced at the other members of the Yang family before lowering his voice. "I don’t think it’s that simple. Too many things have happened in the Yang family lately. We can’t rule out the possibility that someone took advantage of the chaos to make a move."

Ye Xuan furrowed his brows and sized up the Yang family members, nodding in agreement. Whether the person who targeted Yang Zhennan was the mole within the Yang family or a hidden enemy, it was highly detrimental to him.

"What about Yang Jie? Have you found his whereabouts?" Leaving Yang Jie out there without keeping him under control would always be a hidden danger. Ye Xuan had to find him as quickly as possible and bring him under his control.

"Our men lost the trail after tracking him to that hotel. The hotel manager said Yang Jie was beaten within an inch of his life at the time. He implied that Yang Jie is most likely already dead."

"No, impossible. Yang Jie must be the one who leaked the news about me and Bingyu. He’s still alive, and he’s even found a backer." Ye Xuan shook his head, rejecting White Snake’s words out of hand. As the saying goes, the good die young, while the wicked live for a thousand years. Yang Jie was definitely still alive and kicking.

"Look into who Yang Kui has been in contact with these past few days." After some thought, Ye Xuan decided to start with Yang Kui. As Yang Jie’s father, Yang Kui would certainly not sit idly by after his own son was kicked out of the family. Therefore, Yang Kui must be in touch with Yang Jie. Moreover, it was highly probable that Yang Zhennan’s hospitalization was closely related to the father-and-son duo.

Minutes and seconds ticked by until the light above the operating room finally went out. An exhausted-looking doctor walked out and addressed the Yang family.

"Elder Yang’s condition is not optimistic, but fortunately, we managed to save his life."

Hearing the doctor say that Yang Zhennan’s life was no longer in danger, the Yang family breathed a collective sigh of relief. However, before they could even finish exhaling, the doctor’s next words made their hearts leap into their throats again.

"Although Elder Yang is fine for now, his body is nowhere near what it used to be. He has half a year left at most.

"During these six months, you should let Elder Yang rest and recuperate peacefully."

With that, the doctor left.

Yang Bingyu’s legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed to the floor. Ye Xuan hurriedly caught her.

"That’s impossible... Grandpa has always been in such good health. He hasn’t been sick for years. How is this possible... How..." Yang Bingyu murmured in disbelief, completely unable to accept the news.

The events that had occurred recently had dealt her too massive a blow. Seeing her so heartbroken, Ye Xuan couldn’t help but worry. What if Yang Bingyu couldn’t hold on?

"It can’t be helped. Dad has just been through too much lately. With his own grandson banished from the family, even the toughest body wouldn’t be able to bear it," Yang Kui suddenly spoke from the side, looking at Ye Xuan with a passive-aggressive tone.

Though he didn’t target Ye Xuan directly, Yang Jie had been kicked out of the family because of him. For a moment, the entire Yang family looked at Ye Xuan with traces of resentment in their eyes.

Ye Xuan’s gaze narrowed. He didn’t say anything, but a sharp glint flashed in his eyes as he looked at Yang Kui. There was something wrong with Yang Kui.

Late at night.

The Yang family had originally hired professional caregivers to look after Yang Zhennan. But Yang Bingyu insisted on watching over him personally until he woke up. The rest of the Yang family couldn’t persuade her otherwise and had no choice but to let her be.

"Ye Xuan, even though I’m not Grandpa’s biological granddaughter, he has truly doted on me since I was a child. Whenever there was anything good to eat or fun to play with, I was always the first person he thought of.

"I’ve never suffered any grievances or unfairness in the Yang family. This was all because of Grandpa. You should understand how important he is to me, right?" Yang Bingyu said to Ye Xuan. She sat by Yang Zhennan’s hospital bed, holding his hand tightly.

Ye Xuan stood quietly behind her without saying a word, knowing that what Yang Bingyu needed right now was a listener.

"I still remember when I was little, Yang Jie fought with me over a toy. I accidentally pushed him down the stairs, and he broke his leg.

"Uncle Kui’s face turned blue with anger at the time, but because Grandpa was protecting me, he didn’t dare do anything to me.

"Everything I have now was given to me by Grandpa. I thought he could stay by my side like this forever. But I never expected..."

At this point, Yang Bingyu choked up again, burying her face in her hands and sobbing bitterly.

"Bingyu, everyone has to grow up eventually. You can’t live under someone else’s protection for the rest of your life.

"I’m very glad that Elder Yang treated you so well. That’s also why I chose to stay in the Yang family as your bodyguard back then, rather than just taking you away.

"I know you couldn’t bear to leave the Yang family, and I didn’t want to make you sad. Finding you was your brother’s greatest wish in life. I owe him too much, and this is the only way I can repay him," Ye Xuan said, gently patting Yang Bingyu’s back with aching fondness as he softly consoled her.

Hearing Ye Xuan mention her long-lost biological brother once again, Yang Bingyu couldn’t help but feel a bit curious about him.
