Chapter 88: Let Yang Jie Go Home
Chapter 88: Let Yang Jie Go Home
Far took a bite of the freshly peeled apple, his face the picture of indifference.
Ye Xuan, who had just been pondering how to deal with Xiao Ran, immediately lit up at these words. He patted Far on the shoulder with a wicked grin. "Far, I’ll leave this Xiao Ran to you then."
Hearing this, Far stopped chewing his apple. His jaw dropped, his face the epitome of shock. "No, no, no! I was just saying that casually. Don’t take it seriously!" It took him quite a while to recover from his stupor. He swallowed the piece of apple with great difficulty, looking as if he were about to cry.
Although he was the current head of Orioles, their group had always focused exclusively on the overseas market and had never established a branch in Huaxia. For such a massive undertaking, he would have to convene a board meeting; he could only make the decision after all the shareholders agreed. After all, breaking into the Huaxia market and setting up a branch there would require an immense amount of manpower, material resources, and capital. Far dared not make a promise lightly.
"It’s fine. I believe your company’s shareholders will all approve of you opening a branch in Jianghai City," Ye Xuan said.
"You can do it. With your eloquence, I’m sure you can persuade them. Once you succeed, I’ll have White Snake change your caretakers."
Ye Xuan naturally understood Far’s difficulties, but if they wanted to deal with the Xiao Family, Orioles was the only one that could take action. Therefore, to get Far to agree, he didn’t hesitate to throw out a massive bait.
"Are you serious? As long as I convince the shareholders to agree to me opening a branch in Jianghai City, you’ll have White Snake replace my current caretakers?" Sure enough, upon hearing the latter half of Ye Xuan’s sentence, Far immediately changed his tune. His eyes sparkling, he stared at Ye Xuan and asked with a face full of anticipation.
"Yes, I’m serious," Ye Xuan nodded with a smile.
"Deal! I’ll convene a shareholder meeting right now!" Seeing him nod, Far sprang up from the bed as if he had been pumped full of Chicken Blood, clamoring to hold the meeting.
Seeing his excited state, White Snake rolled his eyes in sheer disgust and walked out without a word.
It wasn’t surprising that Far was so thrilled about swapping his caretakers. During the first few days of his injury, his assistant had hired a group of stunningly beautiful nurses who served him exceptionally well. However, when White Snake came to visit and caught them in the act, he had scared the beauties away with an expression as black as thunder. In their place, he brought in two women in their forties to look after him.
Far’s life had been miserable ever since, and he complained about it every time Ye Xuan visited. Unfortunately, since White Snake refused to yield, Ye Xuan could only pretend he hadn’t heard. Those two women had tormented Far for so long, so hearing that he could finally get rid of them made him excited beyond words.
Watching Far conduct a video conference with the Orioles shareholders in his hospital gown, Ye Xuan shook his head helplessly and left the room.
"What’s wrong? You upset?" Ye Xuan asked as he looked at White Snake, who was standing at the door of the ward with a face so dark it could drip ink.
White Snake remained silent for a moment before answering in a muffled, sullen voice. "Didn’t he say that the person he loved most in this life was Bell? Why did he turn out like this?"
In truth, White Snake’s resentment toward Far wasn’t because he had failed to save Bell, but because of his betrayal of her. He was the one who claimed to love Bell, yet after she died, he was also the one fooling around with countless women. White Snake simply couldn’t comprehend this, which was why he had always refused to forgive Far.
"Sigh... White Snake, I know Bell’s death is an indelible wound for you, but people eventually have to look forward," Ye Xuan said with a deep sigh. He took a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, and took a long drag.
"You used time to let go of this matter, whereas he chose new lovers. Far flits from woman to woman precisely because he still can’t let her go in his heart.
"If he truly didn’t love Bell anymore, he would find a good girl, start a new relationship, and settle down to start a family."
It was precisely because Ye Xuan had seen through this aspect of Far that he never blamed him for causing Bell’s death. In reality, Far was the one in the most pain.
White Snake fell completely silent after hearing Ye Xuan’s words. He didn’t understand Far’s behavior, but upon hearing Ye Xuan’s explanation, the resentment in his heart diminished significantly. Just as Ye Xuan had said, the living eventually had to look forward; they couldn’t live in the past forever.
Over on Yang Zhennan’s side, the doctor had recommended that he return home to rest and recuperate. After all, the old man didn’t have much time left, and spending whatever time he had remaining with his family was for the best. Lately, Yang Bingyu had no desire to pester Ye Xuan. She wholeheartedly stayed at the Yang Family’s estate to accompany Yang Zhennan, racking her brains for ways to amuse him and brighten his mood.
Yang Bingyu pushed Yang Zhennan in his wheelchair, letting him bask in the sun in the Yang Family’s garden. The early autumn sun was warm and exceptionally comfortable. Squatting down to tuck the small blanket securely around his legs, she asked with a bright smile, "Grandpa, what do you want to eat for lunch? I just learned a new recipe for pork tripe stuffed with chicken. How about I make it for you?"
Yang Zhennan’s eyes no longer held their former shrewdness and vitality. They were now clouded with a faint layer of gray, making him appear entirely listless. He only registered Yang Bingyu’s words after a two-second delay.
"Alright. As long as Bingyu made it, Grandpa will love it," he said.
After speaking, Yang Zhennan cast his gaze into the distance once more. He seemed to be looking at the distant scenery, but in reality, his eyes were vacant; he was simply spacing out.
Seeing Yang Zhennan like this made Yang Bingyu feel unbearably awful. Her nose stung, and she nearly shed a tear. Was this still her vigorous, high-spirited grandfather?
"Dad! Dad! I have good news for you!" Right at that moment, Yang Kui came running over, yelling with a face full of excitement.
Yang Bingyu hurriedly wiped the corners of her eyes, adjusting her emotions to ask with a smile, "Second Uncle, what are you so happy about?"
Yang Kui skidded to a halt and shot Yang Bingyu a glance. Without answering her, he squatted down, grabbed Yang Zhennan’s hand, and said, "Dad, Jie just called me! He said he secured an opportunity to cooperate with the Xiao Family!
"As long as we let him return to the Yang Family, the Xiao Family will sign a contract with us immediately!"
As soon as Yang Kui heard the news, he had rushed back from the company just to beg Yang Zhennan to relent and allow Yang Jie to come home. The opportunity that enterprises across the entirety of Jianghai City had been fighting tooth and nail for had been seized by Yang Jie. Was such a massive contribution not enough to offset his past mistakes?
Upon hearing this, Yang Bingyu’s expression changed instantly. Being able to cooperate with the Xiao Family was a good thing, but why did it have to be Yang Jie who secured it? She remembered that Yang Jie had been walking together with Su Xiaobai a few days ago. She wondered if this was yet another scheme crafted by Su Xiaobai to deal with the Yang Family.
