Chapter 14.2

Ye Nianwen stared at Qin Nan blankly. It was at this moment that a frantic shout from Huang Guifen came from the hospital, “Sibei! Sibei!!”

Qin Nan and Ye Nianwen glanced at each other and immediately ran towards the ward. They saw Ye Ling and Zhao Chuchu standing behind Huang Guifen, who was grabbing a nurse, “Where is she? How could you let her leave? Where is she?!”

“Mom, please don’t panic.”

Ye Nianwen stopped Huang Guifen, “Miss, did you see which way she went?”

“She went down the corridor.”

The nurse was also startled, pointing towards the hospital corridor, “She probably wanted to leave the hospital.”

“Let’s split up and search.”

Qin Nan spoke up immediately, “We were standing at the entrance just now, didn’t see her, she must have gone around to the back door.”

Ye Nianwen nodded, and as soon as Huang Guifen heard his words, she ran towards the back door.

The family split up and searched for the hospital exit in different directions. Zhao Chuchu comforted the nurse for a moment and then joined the search.

Ye Sibei was very weak. She walked slowly, taking breaks along the way. Initially, she encountered Qin Nan and Ye Nianwen in the corridor but had to use the back door to leave.

She didn’t want to see anyone now. She was afraid of others influencing her decision and feared losing the courage she had finally gathered.

She was going to report to the police.

This time, she would definitely go.

She sat by the flower bed for a while, then stood up and took a few steps. Suddenly, she heard a shout, “Sibei!”

Ye Sibei looked up and saw Huang Guifen in front of her. She turned to run back but saw Ye Nianwen in her path, panting heavily and blocking her way. “Sister.”

Ye Sibei looked at Huang Guifen and then at Ye Nianwen. She felt like a trapped animal with no escape.

Breathing rapidly, Ye Ling, Zhao Chuchu, and Qin Nan arrived one after another.

Huang Guifen walked towards her, scolding as she approached, “You were fine, why did you run? If you want to die, just die. Why do you have to torment me like this?”

As she spoke, she grabbed Ye Sibei’s hand and pulled her towards the ward. “Come on, back to the ward, don’t go crazy.”

“I’m not going…”

Ye Sibei, with courage she didn’t know where it came from, trembled and forcefully shook off Huang Guifen. “I’m not going back!”

“If you’re not going back, where do you want to go?”

Huang Guifen exploded, “Isn’t causing trouble enough for you? Do you have to torment me to death before you’re satisfied?”

“Yes.”

Ye Ling stepped forward, panting. “Sibei, stop this. You’re not well. Where do you want to go?”

“Yes, sister,” Zhao Chuchu hurried over, “can’t you wait until you’re better? Why the rush?”

Ye Sibei’s lips trembled. She was surrounded by everyone. Huang Guifen became completely furious, grabbing her hand and scolding as she dragged her inside. “Whether you go back or not is not up to you. Do you think you’ve grown wings just because you’ve grown up? Come on, let’s go!”

“I’m not going.”

Ye Sibei struggled, “I’m not going.”

“If you’re not going, then where do you want to go?”

“Yes, sister, where do you want to go?”

“Sibei, listen to your mom…”

“I’m not going, I’m not going.”

She struggled hard, being dragged forward, but then a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed Huang Guifen’s hand.

Ye Sibei raised her head in confusion, seeing Qin Nan separate Ye Ling and pull Huang Guifen’s hand away.

He placed both hands on Ye Sibei’s shoulders, looking at her seriously.

“Where do you want to go?”

Ye Sibei’s lips trembled, she was afraid to speak, but she knew she had to.

Looking into Qin Nan’s eyes, he urged her, “Tell them.”

He spoke seriously, “Where do you want to go?”

“I,” Ye Sibei turned her head, looking at the perplexed people around her. Huang Guifen’s expression changed, and Ye Sibei looked at them, saying each word carefully, “I want to go, to the police.”

“The police?”

Ye Ling was stunned, and Ye Sibei looked at Zhao Chuchu. “On the night of April 9th, I didn’t return home.”

Zhao Chuchu’s eyes widened, and Ye Sibei raised her hand, looking at everyone. “I was raped.”

“Ye Sibei!”

Huang Guifen rushed over, but Qin Nan stopped her. “Mom, calm down, let her speak.”

“I want to seek justice for myself.”

Ye Sibei said it out loud, suddenly feeling there was nothing to fear. She calmed down, looking at everyone. “I want to go to the police.”

“Ye Sibei! Are you crazy? You’re crazy!”

Huang Guifen used all her strength to push Qin Nan away. He was about to step forward when he saw Ye Sibei’s eyes.

Ye Sibei looked at Huang Guifen, her eyes containing countless suppressed emotions about to burst out.

Qin Nan halted, Huang Guifen rushed forward, grabbing Ye Sibei’s shoulder. “Stop talking nonsense. You were not raped, and you can’t go to the police. You didn’t report it back then, and you can’t report it now.”

“Why?”

Ye Sibei asked calmly, like she did the first time she reported to the police.

Huang Guifen looked at her incredulously, “Why? Didn’t I tell you before, if you report it, do you have any shame left? Have you ever thought about how others will talk about you after you report it…”

“I have thought about it.” Ye Sibei interrupted Huang Guifen, looking at her, “But even if they talk about me, even if I’m in pain, if I endure and don’t report it, will I not be in pain? Since I’m going to be in pain anyway, why should I endure it for that person?”

“What about me? What about your dad? What about Nianwen and Chuchu?!” Huang Guifen grabbed Ye Sibei’s collar, “Have you thought about us? How will people talk about you in the future? How will your dad and I go out? And Nianwen and Chuchu, they’re going to get married this year. How will they do it with this incident hanging over them?”

“How can you be so selfish?!” Huang Guifen frantically pulled at Ye Sibei’s collar, “How can you be so selfish?!”

“I’m selfish,” Ye Sibei listened to Huang Guifen’s words, she couldn’t help but soften her voice, she seemed to find it somewhat laughable, “Am I selfish?”

“You and Dad,” countless emotions surged in her heart, Ye Sibei mustered up the courage for the first time after graduating, she pointed at Ye Ling, “You wanted a son, so you had me, and then Nianwen, you hid me in the countryside for three years without seeing me, Dad lost his job, the family became poor, and you said it was all because of me, aren’t you selfish?”

“You wanted to send Ye Nianwen to a good school, pay for his school choice fees, not giving me a penny for my education, aren’t you selfish?”

“After graduation, I found a job in the provincial capital, you were afraid no one would take care of you in your old age, you came to my workplace crying and causing a scene, causing me to lose my job, being forced to return to the southern city, aren’t you selfish?”

“I get married, I work, you never asked if I was doing well, you never thought about whether I would have conflicts with Qin Nan, you only care about money, money, money, Ye Nianwen wants to buy a house, wants to get married, if he wants money, why don’t I get any?!”

“You say I’m selfish, what about you? What have you done for me?! I’ve reached this point, I don’t ask you to do anything for me, I just want to seek justice for myself, is that selfish?!”

“Yes!”

As soon as the words fell, accompanied by Huang Guifen’s hysterical roar, “Why aren’t you selfish? I gave birth to you!”

Huang Guifen stared at her, tears falling from her aged and murky eyes, “I raised you! I fed and clothed you, I worried about you every day, do you think I haven’t done anything for you?”

“Do you think I stopped you from reporting to the police for who? Do you think I stopped you from divorcing for who? Do you think I’m afraid of those idle gossip? I’m afraid you can’t…!”

“Then let me report it!”

Ye Sibei shouted loudly, sobbing heavily, staring at Huang Guifen, speaking rapidly, “I’ll tell you the only reason why I’m standing here instead of on the rooftop right now is because I want to send that person to jail! I’m not afraid of dying, so why would I be afraid of enduring this?! If you really treat me as your daughter, let me do it!”

Huang Guifen was stunned.

Mother and daughter confronted each other with tears, one shocked and bewildered, the other full of anger and pain.

Those who are mothers never seem to understand their mistakes, and those who are children always seem to find it difficult to express their pain.
