4: The void stone 4: The void stone The glow came from a stone.

It stood at the center of a desolate expanse, and as the brothers drew closer, they sensed its presence not with their eyes, but with their hearts: a slow, profound pulse, like a second organ beating outside their bodies, calling to them.

Beneath the stone’s polished surface, veins of light and darkness intertwined, flowing like living fluids.

The two forces did not battle one another.

They danced together.

Their balance was so perfect that it was almost hypnotic.

Within the stone, they seemed to have found their perfect synthesis.

Vezareth stopped a few steps away.

“Look,” he whispered.

“This stone…

it is the fulcrum of everything.

I can feel it.

It is the very manifestation of the balance between opposites.

Light and darkness.

Order and chaos.

Everything, gathered into a single point.” Kharmul knelt and placed his hand upon its surface.

It was cold and smooth, and the moment he touched it, a shiver traveled up his arm and into his mind.

For an instant, he saw things.

Worlds being born and dying.

Armies.

Thrones.

Cities of black stone rising from the void.

With a shudder, he tore his hand away, his breathing shallow.

“What did you see?” Vezareth asked.

“The future.” Kharmul swallowed.

“Our future.

Brother…

this stone doesn’t merely show us what we might do.

It shows us what we are destined to do.” They stared at one another in silence for a long while, while the stone pulsed between them like a promise and, at the same time, a threat.

“We cannot allow ourselves to be devoured by this nothingness,” Vezareth finally said, a new firmness entering his voice.

“We cannot allow what we are to dissolve like a shattered dream.

We were cast here to be forgotten.

Instead, we will build something that no one will ever be able to forget.” “A kingdom,” Kharmul declared.

“A kingdom,” Vezareth confirmed.

“Ruled by the two of us.

Together.

Forever.” They rose and faced one another, and the Void Stone seemed to hold its breath.

“Then let us swear an oath,” Kharmul said, extending his hand.

“A pact that no force, in any world, will ever be able to break.” Vezareth clasped his brother’s hand.

“Let our blood be the seal of our alliance.

Let no lie, no deception, no ambition ever tear us apart.” “Do you promise to remain at my side, even when the flame falters?” Kharmul asked.

Vezareth gave a faint smile, his gaze unwavering.

“I promise to be your shadow and your light, and to guide you when you lose your way.

I promise to extinguish your pride when it threatens to consume us both.” It was a beautiful promise.

It was also, though neither of them could have known it, the first of the lies that would destroy them.

They clasped hands with superhuman strength.

The veins within the Void Stone, which until that moment had moved slowly and silently, erupted with light: a red-and-black radiance that spread through the Abyss in a silent shockwave.

It swept across the dead expanse for miles, making the hidden creatures tremble and announcing to every corner of that world and perhaps even to the Creator who had condemned them that something new had been born.

“We are brothers,” Kharmul declared, his voice thundering through the void.

“Lords of this new kingdom.

And nothing shall ever break the oath of blood.” “Together, we shall rule until our names are etched into the very history of the universe,” Vezareth concluded.

Their names would indeed be etched into history.

Just not in the way they had imagined.
