Chapter 89: Special Extra: Yu Qing
Chapter 89: Special Extra: Yu Qing
She put on her professional suit, grabbed her bag, and headed downstairs to buy breakfast.
The weather was beautiful that day — sunshine pouring down. Yu Qing raised her phone and took a photo of the sunlight falling on the wisteria flowers. It looked beautiful. Then, almost on impulse, she opened Lu Zhan’s WeChat chat window and sent it to him.
A few minutes later, just as she was about to arrive at the studio, Lu Zhan replied:
“Good morning. The wisteria in Nancheng is blooming wonderfully.”
Yu Qing smiled as she read his message and replied immediately:
“Of course. Just woke up, President Lu?”
Lu Zhan: “Yeah, just woke up.”
Yu Qing raised her eyebrows slightly and smiled as she entered the studio and began her workday.
She was deep in her design drafts, completely absorbed in drawing, when Wen Yang went into labor that evening. Her water broke.
Yu Qing panicked, grabbed her bag, hastily shut the studio door, and rushed to the hospital.
By the time she arrived, the hallway outside the operating room was already full of people.
Fu Xingzhou stood quietly, staring at the surgery doors, not saying a word.
Aunt Zhu Yun had also arrived.
Yu Qing saw that everyone was waiting silently. She went over to greet Aunt Zhu Yun, who gently held her hand. As for Fu Xingzhou’s mother and grandmother, Yu Qing didn’t dare approach to greet them — they were also silently watching the operating room.
Yu Qing found a spot to stand.
Coincidentally, she was beside Jiang Yue, who glanced at her and asked in a low voice:
“Miss Yu, just came from the studio?”
Yu Qing looked at him and nodded: “Yes. How long have you been here, Secretary Jiang?”
“I brought the Madam, here.”
Yu Qing nodded: “Thank you for your effort, Secretary Jiang. Was Yangbao in pain earlier?”
She clutched her small bag and looked toward the operating room.
Jiang Yue, seeing her concern, replied gently:
“Before entering the OR, I didn’t see her in pain.”
Yu Qing let out a breath of relief. Good — no pain.
She had researched this before and knew that just breaking the water didn’t hurt. But since she had arrived late and didn’t see Wen Yang herself, she was a little anxious.
The light outside the operating room remained on.
The atmosphere was quiet.
Yu Qing stood for a while, then began pacing to ease her tension.
Jiang Yue noticed and said: “Miss Yu, would you like to sit for a bit?”
Yu Qing shook her head: “No, I’m just nervous.”
She’d been in an operating room before, even though it was only a minor procedure. But that cold, sterile feeling had stayed with her. And when her father passed away, she’d arrived at the hospital just in time to see that same glowing surgical light.
That thought brought up another: her own hidden illness.
Seeing how tense she was, Jiang Yue said:
“President Fu is inside with his wife. The operating doctor is a top OB-GYN specialist. Miss Yu, you can relax a little.”
Yu Qing looked up and met Jiang Yue’s warm gaze. She smiled and said: “Thank you, Secretary Jiang. You’re really a good person.”
Jiang Yue chuckled: “You’re a good person too, Miss Yu.”
Yu Qing smiled again. Her tension did ease up.
She stood with Jiang Yue for a while until Tao Li arrived and linked arms with her.
Time slowly passed.
Suddenly, the light above the operating room went off — The whole hallway came alive with movement and excitement.
Yu Qing’s eyes lit up. She smiled at Jiang Yue and said: “She’s out!”
Jiang Yue returned her smile: “Yes.”
Yu Qing felt a surge of joy: “I wonder if it’s a girl or a boy. Yangyang bought all baby girl clothes.”
Jiang Yue, seeing her cheerful mood, smiled too and said: “Girl or boy — both are good. Clothes don’t differ that much at this age.”
Yu Qing looked at him playfully: “Are you biased toward boys?”
Jiang Yue immediately replied: “Heavens no! I’d never.”
Yu Qing laughed: “Just teasing you, Secretary Jiang. Don’t be nervous.”
Jiang Yue smiled along.
The elders all rushed forward to see the baby.
Yu Qing joined them too — Jiang Yue, being a man, stayed back.
Later, when Yu Qing went to see the baby again, she ran into Jiang Yue.
Looking closely at the baby’s features, Yu Qing said: “Can’t really tell who the baby looks like.”
Jiang Yue: “Feels like the baby takes after the mom more.”
Yu Qing smiled: “That’s perfect — a beautiful little young master.”
Jiang Yue let out a soft chuckle.
Then Yu Qing went to see Wen Yang, taking her hand.
Wen Yang looked at her and smiled.
Yu Qing tucked the blanket around her and asked: “Does it hurt?”
Wen Yang shook her head. Her lips were still pale, but her features were beautiful, like a lotus emerging from water.
Yu Qing said: “Get good rest. Recover well during your confinement.”
Wen Yang nodded: “Okay.”
Fu Xingzhou came over too, bringing a blanket for Wen Yang.
Seeing that, Yu Qing quickly excused herself so as not to intrude.
From afar, she saw Fu Xingzhou gently kiss Wen Yang’s forehead.
Yu Qing smiled secretly.
She placed the gift beside her godson. Seeing that Wen Yang was about to rest, she left the hospital.
Jiang Yue also needed to leave soon, but he had to wait a little while. He stepped aside to make a phone call, and when he returned, he happened to see Yu Qing sneaking the gift in. She walked out in heels, her figure striking. Jiang Yue smiled and stood outside the hospital room, waiting for Fu Xingzhou to finish up.
Yu Qing walked out of the hospital.
Tao Li followed her out. Yu Qing offered to give her a ride home.
The night was beautiful. Yu Qing bought a cup of coffee and took a photo of the moonlight. Then, she sent it to Lu Zhan on WeChat along with a message:
Yu Qing: “There’s good news tonight — guess what it is?”
Lu Zhan didn’t reply immediately.
By the time Yu Qing got home, he still hadn’t responded. She put down her bag and went to take a shower. When she came out, she picked up her phone and saw that Lu Zhan had finally replied.
Lu Zhan: “Hmm, I’m guessing Fu Xingzhou leveled up?” 1 Implying that Fu became a dad.
Yu Qing laughed: “President Lu is as sharp as ever.”
Lu Zhan: “When have I ever been dull?”
Yu Qing: “Cough, never. President Lu has always been smart.”
Lu Zhan: “You’re smart too.”
Yu Qing smiled as she read the messages. She sat on the sofa, drying her hair. Then she pulled over her laptop and began sketching designs. But it was getting late. After working a while, she glanced at her phone and sent another message:
Yu Qing: “President Lu, are you busy or resting?”
Lu Zhan, just like before, didn’t reply right away.
About ten minutes later, he replied:
Lu Zhan: “Reading over a contract.”
Yu Qing: “What kind of contract?”
Lu Zhan: “For the club.”
Yu Qing remembered that he had invested in a club, so she asked:
Yu Qing: “Do you play Outlaws?”
(“Outlaws” refers to a popular online game.)
Lu Zhan: “Occasionally.”
Yu Qing: “Wanna play a match?”
Lu Zhan: “Sure.”
Yu Qing instantly sat up straight and opened the game. She copied his ID from WeChat and added him. Soon, Lu Zhan accepted.
Just as she was about to choose a map to play, her eyes swept across his relationship status in the game — there was already a couple slot, with a glowing red heart.
Yu Qing froze.
While the map was still loading, she opened his relationship list again to check.
But before she could clearly see it — her internet disconnected and she got kicked out of the game.
Yu Qing looked at her signal: over 500ms of lag. No wonder it was so choppy.
She switched to her personal network, but it was still slow and wouldn’t load.
Lu Zhan sent a message: “Hmm?”
Yu Qing replied helplessly:
“Laggy network. Looks like we can’t play tonight, sorry, President Lu.”
Lu Zhan: “Haha, no worries. Next time.”
Yu Qing: “Sure.”
After that, Lu Zhan didn’t respond again.
Yu Qing also went quiet.
She held her phone without trying to get back into the game.
A vague “loneliness” crept in.
She looked at the names “Lu Zhan” and “Xu Xu” in her contacts.
She quietly stared at them, clicking in and out of profiles. Then she opened Xu Xu’s chat window.
Last time, he had asked: “Are you home yet?”
Those words still sat in the message field.
Yu Qing stared for a while, then opened his WeChat Moments.
It was still the same old posts. Nothing new.
She leaned back and stared, her mind drifting to the relationship slot in Lu Zhan’s game account — that glowing red couple’s heart.
Yu Qing didn’t really know what she was doing.
She was subconsciously trying to shift her attention toward Lu Zhan — remembering that night in the bar, his smiling eyes, and the coincidence of catching the bouquet. It had all felt like a sign.
But just now, seeing that red heart in his game status… made her feel a bit down.
She had played Outlaws many times.
Couples, besties, brothers, friends — there were all kinds of bonds.
She had once tried to bind a couple status with Xu Xu. But he never accepted.
Whether he missed the request or chose to ignore it, she didn’t know. In the end, it never happened.
She and Wen Yang were bonded as best friends in the game.
Lu Zhan had said he was single — maybe that couple status was from before.
That’s what Yu Qing tried to tell herself.
She sat up to pour herself a cup of coffee, but thinking of her own health, she gave up and switched to warm milk instead.
After drinking the milk, she went to wash up.
When she returned to bed, she leaned against the headboard, picked up her phone, and sent Lu Zhan a message:
Yu Qing: “Goodnight, President Lu.”
A few minutes later, Lu Zhan replied:
“Goodnight.”
Yu Qing looked at the message, then placed her phone on the nightstand, pulled up the covers, and went to sleep.
