Chapter 90: Special Extra: Yu Qing
Chapter 90: Special Extra: Yu Qing
The next day.
Yu Qing opened her wardrobe to pick out a suit and saw a belted shirtdress tucked away at the bottom. She had bought this dress while shopping with Wen Yang — Wen Yang had persuaded her to get it, saying it would make her legs look longer, and more importantly… it was a little sexy.
After buying it, Yu Qing rarely wore it.
But today, for some reason, she took it out and put it on, did a little makeup, and got ready to head downstairs to buy breakfast.
At the entryway, she put on her heels and glanced at herself in the full-length mirror.
Her usual suits were always formal and restrained.
But this dress — knee-length, with the waist starting just above the hips — really made her legs look long.
Wen Yang had once said, “Your legs are so pretty, why not show them off?”
Now, looking in the mirror, Yu Qing had to admit… she did look tall and elegant.
She thought to herself, “A little dressing up actually looks quite good.”
She picked up her phone and took a photo in front of the mirror.
Then, feeling a little mischievous, she opened Lu Zhan’s chat and sent the photo with a playful message:
Yu Qing: “President Lu, new outfit — how do I look?”
After sending it…
She went ahead and posted the photo to her WeChat Moments:
Yu Qing: “Good morning 🌞”
Tao Li saw it first and replied right away:
“Wow, you look great! Finally not one of those stiff, boring suits!”
Several designers in the studio quickly liked the post.
Jiang Yue, who was just heading out the door, saw it too and gave it a like.
Yu Qing finished buying her breakfast downstairs. By then, her post already had lots of likes and comments — but no reply from Lu Zhan in private.
She sipped her soy milk, started the car, and headed to the studio.
Jinyu Huafu (Lu Zhan’s residence)
Lu Zhan got up late and came out in loungewear. Breakfast was already prepared. He sipped his coffee while flipping through a magazine on the table.
Then he noticed he had a WeChat message from just after 8 a.m.
He picked up his phone and opened it — it was the photo from Yu Qing.
The dress really suited her.
Her long legs, which he hadn’t noticed much before, were now striking in the dress. She had that mature feminine charm, and with her beautiful, striking face — if her gaze had been a bit more fierce, her presence would’ve been even stronger.
Lu Zhan held his coffee in one hand and his phone in the other, eyes lowered as he looked at the photo.
All women go through growth — and Yu Qing often made small changes that hinted at something new. Sending him a private photo first thing in the morning… clearly carried some meaning.
Lu Zhan took another sip of coffee.
The housekeeper, who was slicing sandwiches at the island counter, pushed a plate toward him.
Lu Zhan, holding his phone in one hand, typed a reply to Yu Qing:
Lu Zhan: “You look great. It suits you well — very stylish.”
Yu Qing replied almost instantly with a sticker:
“Thanks for the compliment, President Lu 😊”
Lu Zhan: “Haha, you’re welcome.”
He also noticed she had posted it to Moments — so bright and cheerful in the morning; no wonder everyone felt refreshed seeing it.
Yu Qing was already at the studio.
After a morning meeting, she saw Lu Zhan’s reply — only three or four seconds apart.
She walked in heels back to her desk and responded with a smile on her face.
Tao Li brought over some drafts, leaned on her shoulder, and said with a grin:
“Yu Qing-jie, your legs are seriously long. You can’t tell when you wear those suits.”
Yu Qing laughed and nudged her off:
“Alright, you’ve been complimenting me all morning.”
Tao Li giggled:
“You deserve it. Did you see the way the guys in the office stared when you walked in? Their eyes practically froze. It was hilarious.”
Yu Qing clicked her mouse and replied:
“How come I didn’t notice?”
“They wouldn’t dare drool in front of you.”
Yu Qing thought Tao Li was exaggerating and shoved her gently:
“Go work, you’re crushing my shoulder.”
“Hey hey, I’m not that heavy.” Tao Li playfully massaged her shoulder before walking away.
That afternoon, Wen Yang saw Yu Qing’s photo and sent her a message:
Wen Yang: “I thought you threw that dress out!”
Yu Qing: “How could I? You were the one who made me buy it.”
Wen Yang sent a happy sticker.
Yu Qing: “Does your incision hurt?”
Wen Yang: “Not too bad. I’ve got painkillers.”
Yu Qing: “Good. I’ll visit after work.”
Wen Yang: “Great!”
After work, Yu Qing went to the hospital to visit Wen Yang.
The room was a three-bedroom suite — not as fancy as the Washington Residence, but the best the hospital had.
Both families’ elders were there, and so was Fu Xingzhou, who had taken time off to be with Wen Yang.
Yu Qing visited Wen Yang and her godson, staying until dinnertime before leaving.
She didn’t stay for dinner — she felt it might be awkward.
When she left the hospital, the city lights had just begun to shine.
Yu Qing ordered takeout and ate at home.
A few days later.
That day, Yu Qing was working in the studio, sketching a design for a couple’s wedding home.
She revised it over and over again—not because of their requirements, but because her own ideas kept changing, so she kept redoing it.
It was a little frustrating, but she remained patient.
Just then, her phone on the desk started ringing.
She picked it up and saw the caller—Lu Zhan.
Her heart skipped a beat. She paused, then answered the call.
Yu Qing: “President Lu, what brings you here like a sudden breeze?”
Lu Zhan chuckled: “Have you eaten yet?”
Yu Qing glanced at the time.
It was exactly 6:00 p.m.
Yu Qing: “Not yet, haven’t had time.”
Lu Zhan: “Perfect. I haven’t either. Come down—I’ll take you to dinner.”
Yu Qing froze for a second.
Yu Qing: “You’re downstairs?”
Lu Zhan: “Yep, just got here.”
Her heart beat even faster.
Yu Qing: “Okay, I’ll tidy up a bit. Please wait a moment.”
Lu Zhan: “No problem.”
After hanging up, Yu Qing saved her draft, packed up her laptop, and touched up her makeup in the bathroom.
That day, she had gone back to wearing her usual suits—she’d only worn that dress once, and not since. She adjusted her collar, reapplied her lipstick.
With her laptop and small bag in hand, she was the last one to leave the office. She locked up, shut the windows, and went downstairs.
As she entered the lobby, she saw a silver sedan parked outside.
Lu Zhan was standing by the car, one hand in his pocket, looking at his phone. When he saw her, he put his phone away and opened the car door with a smile.
Lu Zhan: “You were the last one in the studio?”
Yu Qing had just reapplied her lipstick—bright and rose-like. She smiled, “Yeah, I was the last. Still rushing through two drafts.”
Lu Zhan: “So busy, Designer Yu.”
Yu Qing got into the car and looked up at him:
Yu Qing: “President Lu has been quite busy too lately.”
Lu Zhan: “Haha, a little.”
He shut her door, got into the driver’s seat, and started the car.
Compared to last time, Lu Zhan was dressed more formally today—like he had just finished a meeting. Full suit, new watch.
When they got onto the main road, Yu Qing suddenly realized and leaned forward.
Yu Qing: “President Lu, I’m sitting in the front seat—won’t that be too much?”
Lu Zhan turned the wheel, neon lights flashing across the windows, making his phoenix eyes look even more striking.
Lu Zhan: “What’s wrong with that? I’m more than happy to be your driver tonight.”
Yu Qing’s ears turned warm.
Yu Qing (laughing): “I wouldn’t dare.”
Lu Zhan just smiled again.
He had reserved a restaurant in advance—the atmosphere was elegant.
Seeing it, Yu Qing felt a little overdressed in her formal suit, but luckily Lu Zhan was just as formal. Compared to the other women there in flirty date-night dresses, they looked much too serious.
Clearly, Lu Zhan was used to this kind of upscale restaurant.
He loosened his cufflinks slightly and pulled out a chair for her.
Yu Qing smiled, lips slightly pursed, and sat down.
Lu Zhan sat across from her and rotated the menu to her.
Yu Qing reached out, glanced over it, and ordered their signature steak.
Lu Zhan: “Good choice. Their steak really is great. Want to add dessert? Do you like sweets?”
Yu Qing looked into his phoenix eyes and replied,
“Sure.”
Lu Zhan smiled and added dessert to the order, then picked his own dishes and handed the menu to the waiter.
After the waiter left—
Lu Zhan: “Now that I’m done here, I’ll be heading back to Hong Kong.”
Yu Qing nodded, “You’ve been in Nancheng for about half a month now, haven’t you?”
Lu Zhan: “Just about.”
He refilled her glass with water.
Yu Qing’s suit was conservative again—not as striking as that dress—but her striking features and rosy lips still made her look beautiful under the warm lighting.
Lu Zhan looked at her for a few seconds and smiled.
Lu Zhan: “After I return to Hong Kong, I’m thinking of going to Sydney next month for a break.”
Yu Qing: “Sydney’s nice.”
Lu Zhan (smiling): “It’s okay. I spend a lot of time abroad. I’ve pretty much been to most countries already.”
Yu Qing: “Wow. I’m jealous.”
Lu Zhan laughed again. “Back in school, I didn’t have the choice. Now, traveling is partly for leisure… and partly because my family’s pressuring me.”
Yu Qing met his gaze, confused:
“Pressuring you about what?”
Lu Zhan gently poured more water. His fingers were long and elegant. “What else? Marriage, of course. I’m at that age. My family nags me constantly. Not as bad as Fu Xingzhou’s grandmother, but it’s still annoying.”
Yu Qing understood instantly. They were pushing him to get married. Just like her own mom had started doing.
She looked up.
Lu Zhan met her eyes and smiled:
“I’m not really interested in marriage. I don’t plan to get married. As for dating, I go with the flow. If a good girl is close by, I usually try not to touch that line.”
Yu Qing watched his face as he spoke.
In that moment…
She clearly understood what he meant.
No matter what happened that night at the bar — whether there was flirting or how close they got — it was just a passing interaction, like any other social performance.
And she? She was one of the “good girls” by his side — someone he wouldn’t touch, someone he had no intention of marrying.
In other words—
Don’t waste your feelings on me.
