Chapter 92: Special Extra: Yu Qing
Chapter 92: Special Extra: Yu Qing
A week after she left, Qingzhou Group in Hong Kong initiated a personnel reshuffle involving Nancheng.
Jiang Yue, under Fu Xingzhou’s order, stayed in Hong Kong to handle matters. He managed both the secretariat departments of Nancheng and Hong Kong.
That evening, Jiang Yue was reporting to Fu Xingzhou via video call.
Wen Yang, holding the baby, opened the door slightly to peek in.
Their eyes met as husband and wife.
Seeing he was in a meeting, Wen Yang didn’t interrupt.
She waved Fu Xingzhou’s hand using the baby’s little hand.
Fu Xingzhou’s eyes softened as he saw them, and he gave a small nod.
Seeing the change in Fu Xingzhou’s expression, Jiang Yue immediately guessed who had opened the door. Once Fu Xingzhou told him to continue, Jiang Yue resumed his report.
“President Qin just arrived at headquarters and started making sweeping changes—offended quite a few people.”
Fu Xingzhou listened and said,
“Let him do it.”
Jiang Yue understood—Fu Xingzhou was using this man to curb some of the overly powerful veteran shareholders.
They had once been genuinely supportive, but now clearly had their own ambitions.
Jiang Yue continued reporting on other work, especially scheduling face-to-face meetings with important contacts—because Fu Xingzhou’s schedule now followed Wen Yang’s, it had to be carefully balanced.
Fu Xingzhou listened with a few “Mm”s in response.
He happened to see a WeChat photo from Wen Yang: her and their son.
He opened it casually and noticed the longevity locket around the baby’s neck, and the silver bracelet on his wrist.
This whole set had been gifted by Yu Qing.
While scrolling through the photos, Fu Xingzhou casually remarked:
“I noticed you often keep tabs on Yu Qing’s updates.”
Jiang Yue, who was halfway through sending a file, paused.
A few seconds later, he replied in a gentle tone:
“I think Designer Yu is quite interesting.”
Fu Xingzhou raised an eyebrow.
Yu Qing had chosen Beihai as her travel destination.
It was the first city she had visited during a college design competition with Liu Yu.
After the competition, she and her classmates promised to return someday together. But one of those classmates had gone abroad, and over the years, they’d lost touch.
Yu Qing had once wanted to go with Wen Yang, but it remained only a plan for many years.
This time, she finally booked a flight, reserved a hotel, and fulfilled that early dream.
The city had changed a lot—it was now a full-fledged tourist destination. Yu Qing pulled her suitcase into the hotel room. The floor-to-ceiling window faced a forest—lush and green.
Sitting by the bed, looking at the greenery outside,
Yu Qing felt at peace, relaxed, and refreshed.
Just then, her phone rang.
She looked at the screen—Chen Miaoyun, her mother.
Yu Qing paused for a moment, then answered,
“Hello, Mom.”
“Yu Qing, have you eaten yet?”
Yu Qing turned on the air conditioning and replied:
“Not yet. I just arrived at the hotel.”
“Hotel? Business trip?”
“No, Mom, I came to travel. I’m on a solo trip.”
Chen Miaoyun replied:
“It’s good to go out more, clear your head, don’t stay stuck in Nancheng.”
Yu Qing chuckled,
“Yeah, Mom. What did you eat today? Any roast goose? I’m kind of craving the one from home.”
“I made goose porridge. There’ll be plenty of roast goose when you get back. I’ll send some to you next time.”
“Great.”
Then Chen Miaoyun paused and asked,
“That photo I sent you last time—did you really think he was just average?”
Here we go again. Yu Qing pressed her lips together.
Looking at the green leaves outside, she thought about how her father passed away early, and her mother raised her alone. They depended on each other, but now, as they got older, both had their own things they insisted on.
Yu Qing said:
“Mom, didn’t you realize that I said ‘average’ because I really don’t want to date anyone right now?”
Chen Miaoyun paused and replied:
“Just meet him—treat it like making a new friend.”
Yu Qing pressed her lips tighter.
She didn’t want to divert her attention from this trip—she was here to relax, not to add more emotional confusion.
She said seriously:
“Mom, give me a year and a half. During this year and a half, please don’t introduce anyone to me, and don’t push me to get married, okay?”
Chen Miaoyun was stunned.
“Why?”
Yu Qing lowered her voice:
“Because it’s too much pressure. The more you push, the more anxious I get—and when I panic, I get lost. Give me time to figure things out myself, to look around slowly. Can you?”
Chen Miaoyun could hear the plea in her daughter’s voice.
She was surprised. She realized something must have happened to Yu Qing—but Yu Qing hadn’t told her. In the past, she would’ve smiled and played along, but now she was drawing boundaries.
Chen Miaoyun knew her daughter well. Though she claimed not to care, she always did deep down—and it often caused her to suffer.
Chen Miaoyun softened:
“Alright, alright. I won’t rush you anymore.”
Yu Qing’s brow finally relaxed, and she smiled:
“Thanks, Mom.”
After hanging up, Yu Qing felt lighter. She went downstairs for dinner.
After eating, she came back to rest.
The next morning, Yu Qing picked up her camera and began her two-week trip. Though she wasn’t as professional as Wen Yang, she had fun.
At one point, she tried to photograph a bird—
but the bird pecked at her, so she snapped a picture and caught its beak mid-shot.
Yu Qing found it funny and laughed out loud.
Facing the blue sky, white clouds, and that silly bird,
Yu Qing realized—happiness can actually be very simple.
Even alone, she could find so many little joys. She smiled brightly as she edited the pictures and posted three of them on her Moments.
Her old habit of posting—sometimes abstract, sometimes pretty—was back.
That night, the guesthouse owner happened to be celebrating his birthday and invited everyone to a small party.
Yu Qing received an invitation card but didn’t know what to get as a gift. So, she decided to draw him a picture instead. She went out to buy a sketchbook and some pens.
Thinking of the owner’s signature mustache and baseball cap, she started sketching.
After finishing the drawing, she signed it at the bottom:
Yu Qing.
That evening, everyone gathered in the courtyard.
Yu Qing came down the stairs dressed in trousers and a light apricot blouse. With her short hair, she looked sharp and chic.
Several men in the courtyard turned to look at her—and whistled.
What a city beauty.
Yu Qing didn’t realize it at first. It wasn’t until she met one of the guys’ eyes that she figured out the whistling was directed at her. She froze for a second, her ears heating up. Why were they whistling at her?
The owner, carrying out a tray of meat, saw her and smiled:
“You’re dressed the most appropriately. They don’t often see women like you around here.”
Yu Qing’s ears were still warm. She replied:
“Well, at least they weren’t sleazy about it.”
The owner laughed heartily.
Yu Qing also laughed and handed him the sketchbook in her hand:
“Birthday gift.”
The owner looked pleasantly surprised. He opened the sketchbook and his eyes lit up.
“I love this gift.”
“What gift?”
Everyone else immediately stood up and crowded around to see. A few of the guys exclaimed:
“Damn, I want a gift like that too!”
Yu Qing pretended not to hear and quickly made her way to the BBQ table—That table was all women, some college students, others working professionals.
As Yu Qing sat down, the owner brought over more meat and drinks.
Standing beside her, he asked:
“Are you an artist?”
Yu Qing took a sip of her drink and smiled, shaking her head:
“Nope. Do I look like one dressed like this?”
The owner laughed and said:
“You’re right. You look more like someone who works in an office.”
Yu Qing nodded:
“Exactly.”
The owner looked at her for a few seconds, then specially mixed a fruit juice and brought it over to her. Several girls around her looked at her with teasing expressions.
Yu Qing noticed their gazes and thought—
Just because I gave him a gift and he made me a juice… is that really flirtatious?
But her heart was calm as still water. She didn’t want to overthink it. She had simply given a birthday gift—that’s all. She wasn’t going to over-romanticize it. And she definitely wouldn’t associate it with love. Everyone looked the same to her now. She simply relaxed and blended into the birthday atmosphere.
Those who travel often know how to have fun—
Whether it was Werewolf, online co-op gaming, or The Traitor, they played like pros.
When Yu Qing joined “The Traitor,” she paused for a moment, then smiled and added the group as friends.
Even the owner added her.
Among them, Yu Qing had the highest game level. Everyone wanted her to “carry” them.
That summer night, the joy of the birthday party mingled with the food and games. Everyone was happy and had a great time.
Yu Qing rolled up her blouse sleeves, revealing slender fair arms. Her collar was loose and relaxed. Propping her face with one hand, she joined them in playing drinking games.
The owner used a Polaroid camera to snap a photo of that moment and handed a copy to Yu Qing.
That night, the party didn’t end until after 3 AM.
Yu Qing went upstairs smelling of barbecue, washed up, changed into pajamas, and sat on the bed. She dried her hair and picked up the Polaroid.
In it, she was playing drinking games, smiling brightly in the soft, warm light.
This—was happiness.
She tidied up a bit, casually edited a caption, and shared the photo to her Moments.
—Meanwhile—
A new game test was running into problems.
Xu Xu, with a cigarette in his mouth, was still in a meeting room at 4 AM.
He saw an update in his Moments feed.
Clicked.
And saw the Polaroid.
Surrounded by a group of men, Yu Qing was the only woman in the frame. Her fingers looked delicate as she played the game. A few loose strands of hair brushed her cheek, and light smoke from the BBQ curled in the air nearby.
She looked truly happy.
Xu Xu stared at it for a while…
Then gave it a “like.”
She was radiant—smiling brightly in the crowd.
He also saw the last two photos in her post.
One was a selfie with the guesthouse owner.
The other was the sketch she had drawn for him—clearly signed at the bottom.
Yu Qing.
Jiang Yue, holding his coffee, felt like it was the first time he had ever seen another man in one of her shared posts—and not only that, she had drawn a portrait for him.
Jiang Yue lifted his cup again. For some reason, he stared at that sketch longer than he expected.
