Chapter 97: Special Extra: Yu Qing
Chapter 97: Special Extra: Yu Qing
“I want to…”
Yu Qing chewed over the words, “be worthy of me?”
Her tone carried a trace of hesitation, as if she didn’t quite believe the statement was about her.
Jiang Yue nodded.
Yu Qing set down her spoon, picked up a napkin to gently wipe the corner of her mouth, then met Jiang Yue’s gaze. His expression was soft and warm as he said, “You’re a designer. An award-winning designer who owns her own brand and studio.”
“And what am I? Just a chief secretary of a corporation.”
Yu Qing immediately said, “Don’t belittle yourself. Being a chief secretary is impressive too.”
Jiang Yue smiled, pouring them both a cup of tea. “I’ve seen some of your early award-winning designs. I really liked them. When I found out they were made during your university years, the word ‘talent’ came to mind.”
Yu Qing was stunned for a moment and asked, “You mean the one with the old house?”
Jiang Yue hummed in confirmation.
Yu Qing chuckled lightly. “That was a public welfare project—renovating Grandma Feng’s old house in Su Garden. Later, when her son got married, he even moved back to live with her. Where did you see it?”
Jiang Yue smiled faintly, “In your university’s campus journal.”
Yu Qing hadn’t expected Jiang Yue to read the school journal. She said, “Saying someone is or isn’t worthy feels too serious. I’m just an ordinary person.”
Jiang Yue looked at her with gentle eyes. “You’re not ordinary.”
Yu Qing’s cheeks grew a little warm.
She tactically picked up her teacup to sip some water.
Jiang Yue continued, “So you understand what I meant now, right?”
Yu Qing’s gaze drifted away. When their eyes met again, she gave a slight nod. But then she asked, “Can I ask… what is it about me that made you like me?”
Jiang Yue set down his cup, his eyes smiling. “I can’t exactly break it down, but that one time was a spark. Afterward, whether chatting with you or seeing your daily posts, I’d feel a flutter in my heart and find you really endearing.”
Yu Qing blinked in surprise. “Endearing? My posts often get called abstract.”
Jiang Yue smiled. “That’s exactly why they’re endearing. The night President Fu proposed, you were chatting with Tao Li, commenting on us men. I heard it all. It was an honor to receive a good review from you.”
Yu Qing instantly covered her face with one hand, her gaze darting away, clearly embarrassed. “You actually heard that?”
Jiang Yue nodded with a smile.
Yu Qing let out a little groan. “I shouldn’t gossip about people.”
Jiang Yue just smiled at her.
Yu Qing grew even more embarrassed, her face turning redder. She thought to herself, Good thing I didn’t say anything else. Girls can get pretty raunchy in private jokes—sometimes even more so than guys.
She picked up her teacup again to drink.
Her mind was spinning—was this… a confession?
It was the first time in her life.
Their eyes met again.
Yu Qing set her cup down and asked back, “Are you…?”
Jiang Yue finished for her, nodding: “Confessing. I’m confessing to you.”
Yu Qing pressed her lips together.
Jiang Yue smiled and said, “Don’t feel pressured. I just wanted to tell you my reason behind everything I’ve done. I don’t have huge ambitions in life—at one point I did consider starting an asset management firm. I learned a lot during my time at Qingzhou, but I never followed through. Maybe it’s because life’s been pretty comfortable. I got used to it. Your appearance gave me a push forward on that road.”
“If I’d stayed at Qingzhou and pursued you, you might’ve ended up looked down on—since you and Wen Yang are best friends, maybe you wouldn’t have thought about it, but society can be very realistic. I didn’t want you to be affected by that kind of gossip.”
Yu Qing hadn’t expected him to consider all that.
What he meant was: if he pursued her while holding a lower position, she might be viewed as having “married down.” She shook her head and said, “I’ve never thought of competing with Wen Yang. We supported each other to get where we are.”
“Yes, Wen Yang said the same thing.”
Yu Qing looked up. “Yangbao knew?”
Jiang Yue nodded with a smile.
Yu Qing suddenly remembered how Wen Yang had once told her: If you’re curious, ask Jiang Yue yourself.
That really didn’t sound like something Wen Yang would normally say—it was as if she already assumed Yu Qing and Jiang Yue were very close.
But back then, they were no more than casual acquaintances. So it turned out Wen Yang had already known something.
Yu Qing bit the rim of her cup and said, “And here I was, trusting her so much. Hmph.”
Jiang Yue laughed aloud.
He said, “Of course Wen Yang couldn’t tell you. What if I never confessed?”
There it was again—confessed.
Yu Qing even felt her back start to heat up.
Jiang Yue seized the moment and said, “From today on, every time I ask you out, my goal is to pursue you. If you ever feel uncomfortable, you can reject me at any time. Okay?”
Yu Qing looked at him.
And softly replied, “Mm.”
Back at her place, Yu Qing changed into slippers and walked to the kitchen island to pour herself some water. She also placed the bouquet she’d been holding on the counter. The flowers on the restaurant’s table weren’t from the venue—they had been arranged in advance by Jiang Yue.
There was even a card and a little doll tucked inside.
Yu Qing drank her water and glanced toward the balcony, thinking of the words Jiang Yue had said.
It was the first time she’d truly felt respected by a man. She realized that when a man truly liked a woman, he could see everything about her as beautiful—even the daily social media posts that others sometimes criticized.
Because her design work already required so much mental effort, when it came to posting on her social media, Yu Qing did have an eye for aesthetics, but she liked playing around with abstract ideas and didn’t treat it all that seriously.
Xu Xu had once told her that it took research to figure out what her posts even meant.
But in truth, they didn’t mean much—she just posted whatever she felt like. Back then, to have more to talk about with Xu Xu, she would even deliberately come up with meanings to explain to him.
Yu Qing walked out onto the balcony and looked up at the starry sky.
She had to admit, she felt her confidence returning bit by bit.
Thinking this, she turned back into the living room, picked up her phone, and called Wen Yang.
Wen Yang picked up quickly, her voice soft and gentle.
Yu Qing smiled and said, “Have you eaten?”
Wen Yang replied gently, “Just did. You?”
“Me too.”
Right after she said it, Yu Qing suddenly remembered—it was Valentine’s Day. Wen Yang was in Hong Kong with Fu Xingzhou. She clicked her tongue and said, annoyed, “I forgot you’re spending Valentine’s Day in Hong Kong. I’ll call you tomorrow instead.”
“No need, he’s on the phone too.”
Yu Qing said, “Still, that’s not right. I’ll just call tomorrow.”
After hanging up, Yu Qing went to take a shower, then worked on a drawing. It was already getting late, but she went to bed with a small smile that night.
The next day around noon, Wen Yang returned the call.
Yu Qing had just gotten up and was curled on the sofa, talking to Wen Yang on the phone.
She told her about what happened with Jiang Yue.
On the other end, Wen Yang raised her brows slightly. Yu Qing huffed, “You knew, didn’t you? You knew and didn’t say anything.”
Wen Yang’s voice was soft. “Honestly, I didn’t know that much. On my birthday, I saw you and Jiang Yue chatting. You looked quite close. I was only afraid you’d get hurt again, so I asked Fu Xingzhou if Jiang Yue was single. He said yes.”
“Later on, Fu Xingzhou also asked Jiang Yue a few questions about relationships. They’ve known each other for so many years and are more in sync than we are.”
“When Jiang Yue resigned, Fu Xingzhou let him go very quickly. Afterward, I found out the full story from Fu Xingzhou—Jiang Yue has liked you for a long time.”
Yu Qing felt her face heating up again. She glanced at her computer screen and sighed, “I really didn’t expect that…”
Wen Yang chuckled lightly.
“Jiang Yue’s great—he really considers things carefully for you.”
Yu Qing didn’t respond immediately.
Wen Yang paused for a moment and asked gently, “Do you think you could like a man like him?”
Yu Qing hugged her pillow and said, “I don’t know… but I am a little moved. That’s for sure.”
Wen Yang thought for a moment. “That’s not enough, though. Being moved can’t be the reason you say yes.”
“I know, Yangyang. You also know what I’ve been through twice before. It’s left me with that fear, like someone burned by water fearing even warm water for ten years.”
“I understand. So don’t rush. You can take your time and observe.”
“Okay.” Yu Qing replied.
After hanging up, the corners of her mouth lifted in a smile. It was a joyful kind of feeling.
After all, who wouldn’t be moved by being loved?
Almost no one wouldn’t be. At least for Yu Qing, being loved, being pursued, brought a certain happiness.
From that point on, Jiang Yue began officially pursuing her. His approach was gentlemanly, refined, and thoughtful in every way.
At first, no one in the studio noticed—everyone just thought he was a good person. That was, until one time when Jiang Yue helped Yu Qing remove a ribbon from her hair and leaned in close.
That was when the sharp-eyed Tao Li finally caught on.
Jiang Yue’s been coming around a lot lately.
A busy man who ran his company in East City—why did he keep showing up in South City? He didn’t even live there. Something was definitely up.
And then she realized—it was all for Yu Qing.
So one day when Jiang Yue came to the studio to pick up Yu Qing, Tao Li, holding a coffee at the front desk, smiled teasingly and said:
“Mr. Jiang, since you’re here to see Sister Qing today, you have to give out wedding candy!”
Jiang Yue was momentarily stunned. A few seconds later, he smiled faintly, touched his pocket, and took out two milk candies, placing them on the counter.
Tao Li grinned, “These are wedding candies, right?”
Jiang Yue nodded. “Hopefully they will be.”
Tao Li burst out laughing.
Ah, so that is what’s going on.

P.S.:
I have a new novel up. Please check it out and bookmark it. It’s a story about a mom who died and is transported 13 years into the future where her children became cannon fodders. It’s a comedy/family/healing drama, no romance drama,
Reborn Mother: Turning the Tide for My Cannon Fodder Children
After her death, Shu Shu discovered that she was merely the “White Moonlight” in a novel—the male lead’s long-lost first love who ran away while pregnant and died young.
Her children were destined to be the “cannon fodder foils” to the female lead’s children:
Her son was a street thug living adrift. He fought the female lead’s genius son over a girl, became a laughingstock, and eventually took a wrong turn that landed him in prison.
Her daughter, starved of maternal love since childhood, grew up dull and unlikable. She struggled with binge eating and obesity. While competing with the female lead’s “ethereal” daughter for the position of lead violinist, an accident ruined her hand, causing her to lose her mind and be abandoned by the family.
The story ended with the female lead replacing the “White Moonlight” in the male lead’s heart. Along with their brilliant children, the new family earned the recognition of the patriarch’s clan and lived happily ever after.
The good news: Shu Shu has been reborn.
The bad news: Her 18-year-old self has been reborn into the time when her son is already 17.
