106: Homeward bound 106: Homeward bound The private jet cut through the night sky, its luxurious interior a stark contrast to the tension that filled the cabin.

Bruce sat across from Mishka, his eyes occasionally flashing amber in the dim light as he struggled to contain his wolf.

Mishka, for her part, was staring out the window, her reflection in the glass a portrait of worry and determination.

“We should be landing in about an hour,” Bruce said softly, breaking the silence that had stretched between them since takeoff.

Mishka turned to him, her eyes filled with a mix of fear and resolve.

“What do you think we’ll find when we get there?”

Bruce leaned forward, taking her hand in his.

“I don’t know,” he admitted.

“But whatever it is, we’ll face it together.”

Just then, Bruce’s phone buzzed insistently.

He fished it out of his pocket, his brow furrowing as he saw Graham’s name on the screen.

“Graham?” he answered, putting the call on speaker.

“What’s wrong?”

Graham’s voice came through, breathless and panicked.

“Bruce, we’ve got a problem.

Jean’s here in Milan, and she brought a friend – that other werewolf called Lucinda.”

Mishka’s eyes widened as she listened to Graham recount his night’s adventure – the nightclub, the revelation of his nature, and his narrow escape.

“They were trying to make you jealous, Bruce,” Graham finished.

“I think they’re planning something mischievous.”

Bruce’s jaw clenched, his free hand curling into a fist.

“This complicates things,” he growled.

“Graham, find somewhere safe to lay low.

We’ll contact you when we can.”

As Bruce ended the call, Mishka could see the worry etched on his face.

“What does this mean for us?” she asked.

Bruce ran a hand through his hair, his mind racing.

“It means we’re not just dealing with your grandmother and the Shadow Weaver anymore.

Jean and Lucinda could be wild cards in all of this.”

The pilot’s voice came over the intercom, announcing their imminent descent.

As the plane began to lower, Mishka felt her heart rate increase.

“Bruce,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper, “I’m worried.”

Bruce moved to sit beside her, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.

“I know,” he said softly.

“But remember, you’re stronger than you know.

We’ve got magic on our side now, and we’ve got each other.”

Mishka frowned at this because of her religious beliefs.

She kept quiet for now.

As the plane touched down, Mishka took a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever lay ahead.

The tarmac was eerily quiet as they disembarked, the pre-dawn air crisp and cool.

A sleek black car was waiting for them, its driver a stoic figure in the shadows.

As they approached, Mishka felt a familiar tingle – the protection spell Bruce had taught her humming just beneath her skin.

“Something’s not right,” she murmured to Bruce as they neared the car.

Bruce nodded almost imperceptibly, his posture shifting subtly into a more defensive stance.

“I feel it too.

Stay close.”

As they reached the car, the driver stepped forward.

In the dim light, Mishka could see a strange symbol glowing faintly on his forehead – a mark she’d never seen before.

He was her father’s official driver, so she seldom saw him.

“Mr.

Mason, Miss Classens,” the driver said, his voice unnaturally flat.

“I’ve been instructed to bring you to the Classen estate immediately.”

Bruce’s eyes narrowed.

“Instructed by whom?”

The driver’s face remained impassive.

“By the one who weaves shadows, of course.”

Mishka felt a chill run down her spine.

The Shadow Weaver and Myrtle knew they were here.

Their element of surprise was gone.

Bruce’s hand found hers, squeezing it reassuringly.

“Very well,” he said to the driver.

“Lead the way.”

As they slid into the backseat of the car, Mishka couldn’t shake the feeling that they were walking into a trap.

But as she looked at Bruce, saw the determination in his eyes, she knew they had no choice.

Whatever awaited them at her family’s estate, they would face it together.

The car pulled away from the airport, carrying them towards an uncertain fate.

In the growing light of dawn, Mishka caught sight of her childhood home in the distance.

It looked the same as always, but she knew that behind its familiar facade, dark forces were at work.

A definite confrontation was at hand, and bowing her head, Mishka prayed they were ready for whatever lay ahead.

As the car wound its way up the long, tree-lined driveway of the Classen estate, Mishka felt her anxiety mounting.

The familiar silhouette of her childhood home loomed before them, bathed in the soft light of dawn.

But something felt off, an unnatural stillness permeating the air.

The car came to a stop at the foot of the grand staircase leading to the front doors.

Bruce squeezed Mishka’s hand reassuringly before they both stepped out, their senses on high alert.

There, standing at the top of the stairs, were two figures Mishka had not expected to see.

Her grandmother, looking regal and imposing as ever in a deep purple dress, stood with her hands clasped in front of her.

Beside her was a man Mishka had never seen before – tall, lean, with piercing green eyes that seemed to glow in the early morning light.

“Grandmother,” Mishka said, her voice tight with a mixture of anger and apprehension.

“I see you’ve been expecting us.”

Her grandmother’s lips curled into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes.

“Mishka, dear.

How lovely of you to join us.

And Mr.

Mason, what a pleasure!”

Bruce nodded curtly, his body tense beside Mishka’s.

The man next to her grandmother stepped forward, his movements fluid and graceful.

“Allow me to introduce myself,” he said, his voice smooth as silk.

“I’m Ivan.

I’ve been…

assisting your grandmother with some matters.”

As Ivan spoke, a memory flashed in Mishka’s mind – the cat in the basement nursery, its green eyes vivid, from the video that she had watched with her friend, Gillian.

The pieces suddenly clicked into place.

“You’re the cat,” Mishka blurted out, her eyes wide with realization.

Ivan’s eyebrows rose slightly, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth.

“Clever girl,” he purred.

“Yes, I do have a tendency to…

change form when the situation calls for it.”

Both Bruce and Mishka’s mouths gaped wide open to hear someone confessing to magic so easily.

Bruce’s hand then instinctively tightened around Mishka’s, a silent warning to be cautious.

“What’s going on here, Grandmother?” Mishka demanded, her voice stronger now.

“Why all this secrecy?

The Shadow Weaver, the attempts on Bruce’s life?”

Her grandmother’s face hardened.

“All will be explained in due time, my dear.

For now, why don’t you both come inside?

We have much to discuss.”

Mishka hesitated, looking to Bruce.

His eyes met hers, a silent conversation passing between them.

They both knew they were walking into potential danger, but they also knew this might be their only chance to uncover the truth.

“Very well,” Bruce said, his voice cool and controlled.

“Lead the way.”

As they ascended the stairs, Mishka couldn’t shake the feeling of wrongness that permeated the air.

The protection spell Bruce had taught her thrummed under her skin, a constant reminder of the magical forces at play.

On the inside, she could not wait to have an atmosphere of normality around her, in the solace of her own bedroom.

Ivan held the door open for them, his green eyes following their every move.

As Mishka passed him, she could have sworn she heard a faint purr rumbling in his chest.

The grand foyer of the Classen mansion was just as Mishka remembered it, but now it felt alien and threatening.

Portraits of ancestors seemed to watch them with accusing eyes, and the air was thick with the scent of incense and something else…

something old and powerful.

Where was her father then?

He would not allow this.

“Come,” her grandmother said, gesturing towards the study.

“We have much to discuss.”

As they followed her grandmother and Ivan down the hallway, Mishka’s mind raced.

What was her grandmother planning?

How did Ivan fit into all of this?

And most importantly, where was the Shadow Weaver?

Bruce’s presence beside her was reassuring, but Mishka couldn’t shake the feeling that they were walking into something far more dangerous than they had anticipated.

As they entered the study, the door closing behind them with an ominous click, Mishka steeled herself for whatever revelations lay ahead.

Little did she know, the truth would be more shocking and life-altering than she could have ever imagined.
