111: Echoes of the Hunt 111: Echoes of the Hunt The heavy steel door of the safe room sealed shut with a resounding thud, muffling the chaos that raged beyond.

Mishka leaned against the cool metal wall, her heart pounding in her chest.

Bruce immediately moved to a sophisticated control panel, his fingers flying over the keys.

“What are you doing?” Mishka asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

“Calling for backup,” Bruce replied tersely.

“And activating the mansion’s defense systems.

It won’t stop Jean and Lucinda, but it might slow them down.”

As Bruce worked, Mishka’s mind raced.

The image of Graham, outnumbered and fighting furiously, was seared into her memory.

“We have to help Graham,” she insisted.

“We can’t just leave him out there.”

Bruce paused, his shoulders tense.

“Graham knows the risks, Mishka.

He-”

“He’s our friend,” Mishka interrupted.

“And he’s out there because of us.

We have to do something.”

Before Bruce could respond, a series of screens flickered to life on one wall of the safe room.

They displayed various areas of the mansion – including the library, now a scene of destruction.

Mishka gasped as she saw Graham, back in human form, limping towards a window.

Jean and Lucinda, both partially transformed, were closing in on him.

“No,” Bruce muttered, his face pale.

He grabbed a microphone from the control panel.

“Graham!

The east wing!

Get to the east wing!”

On the screen, Graham’s head snapped up at the sound of Bruce’s voice echoing through the mansion.

With a burst of energy, he dove through the window, rolling onto the lawn and sprinting towards the east side of the property.

“What’s in the east wing?” Mishka asked, her eyes glued to the screens as they tracked Graham’s progress.

“Another safe room,” Bruce explained, his fingers once again flying over the controls.

“And…

something that might give us an advantage.”

Mishka watched anxiously as Graham disappeared from one camera view, only to reappear on another.

Jean and Lucinda were in hot pursuit, their partially transformed bodies allowing them to move with inhuman speed.

Suddenly, Graham stumbled, clutching his side.

Jean let out a triumphant howl as she closed the gap.

“No!” Mishka cried, pressing her hands against the screen.

At that moment, a high-pitched whine filled the air.

Jean and Lucinda skidded to a halt, their hands clapped over their ears.

Graham, seemingly unaffected, used the opportunity to dive through a hidden door that had appeared in the side of the mansion.

“What was that?” Mishka asked, relief washing over her as the door sealed shut behind Graham.

“Ultrasonic deterrent,” Bruce explained, a grim smile on his face.

“Painful for werewolves, but harmless to humans.

It won’t hold them off forever, but it buys us some time.”

As if on cue, a new voice crackled over the intercom.

“Bruce?

Mishka?

Are you there?”

“Graham!” Mishka exclaimed.

“Are you okay?”

“I’ve been better,” Graham’s strained voice replied.

“But I’ll live.

What’s the plan now?”

Bruce leaned towards the microphone.

“We need to get you out of there.

The main driveway is too exposed.

There’s a hidden tunnel in the basement that leads to-”

His words were cut off by a bone-chilling howl that seemed to shake the very foundations of the mansion.

On the screens, they watched in horror as Jean and Lucinda, now fully transformed into their wolf forms, were accompanied by other wolves.

They systematically began to tear apart the east wing of the mansion.

“They’re trying to find a way in,” Bruce said, his voice tight with tension.

“Graham, you need to move.

Now.”

“Easier said than done,” Graham grunted.

“I think my leg’s broken.”

Mishka felt a surge of determination.

“We can’t just sit here and watch.

Bruce, there has to be something we can do!”

Bruce ran a hand through his hair, his eyes darting between the screens and the control panel.

“Maybe…

but it’s risky.

Very risky.”

“At this point, I think we’re out of safe options,” Mishka said firmly.

Bruce nodded, his expression resolute.

“Alright.

But if we do this, you have to promise to follow my lead.

No heroics, no impulsive moves.

Deal?”

Mishka nodded, her heart racing with a mix of fear and anticipation.

“Deal.

What’s the plan?”

As Bruce began to outline his strategy, the sounds of destruction grew louder.

On the screens, Jean, Lucinda and their companions’ relentless assault continued, their wolf forms a blur of fur and fury.

Certainly!

Bruce’s fingers flew over the control panel, activating a series of mechanisms throughout the mansion.

“Okay, here’s the plan,” he said, his voice tense but determined.

“We’re going to use the mansion’s defensive systems to create a distraction.

It should give us enough time to reach Graham and get to the escape tunnel.”

Mishka nodded, her heart pounding.

“What about Jean and her pack?”

Bruce’s expression hardened.

“I’ve got something special planned for them.”

As they prepared to leave the safe room, Bruce grabbed a small device from a hidden compartment.

“Emergency beacon,” he explained.

“It’ll alert the local pack leader about what’s happening here.”

They exited the safe room cautiously, the sounds of destruction echoing through the corridors.

Bruce led them through a series of hidden passages, expertly navigating the mansion’s secret network.

As they neared the east wing, Bruce activated the device.

A high-pitched whine filled the air, causing the sounds of werewolf rage to falter momentarily.

Bruce’s voice boomed through the mansion’s intercom system: “Jean!

Lucinda!

This is your last warning.

Stand down now, or face the consequences.

I’ve already alerted the pack leader about your actions tonight.

You’re risking everything – your status, your business connections, your place in the pack.

Is it worth it?”

For a moment, silence fell.

Then, a chilling howl rose in response, followed by the renewed sounds of destruction.

“They’re not backing down,” Mishka whispered.

Bruce’s jaw clenched.

“Then they’ve made their choice.”

They pressed on, finally reaching the room where Graham was trapped.

As Bruce worked to override the lock, Mishka kept watch, the silver letter opener clutched tightly in her hand.

Suddenly, a massive form burst through the wall beside them.

Lucinda, in full wolf form, her eyes blazing with fury, stood amid the debris.

“Run!” Bruce shouted, shoving Mishka towards the now-open door where Graham waited.

Mishka stumbled into the room, helping Graham to his feet.

She turned back to see Bruce squaring off against Lucinda, a strange device in his hand.

“Bruce!” she cried out.

“Get Graham out of here!” Bruce yelled back, dodging Lucinda’s slashing claws.

“I’ll hold them off!”

Torn between her desire to help Bruce and the need to get Graham to safety, Mishka hesitated.

In that moment, Jean and her companions appeared at the other end of the corridor, cutting off their escape route.

Bruce saw their predicament.

With a grimace of determination, he activated the device in his hand.

A blinding flash filled the corridor, accompanied by a deafening boom.

Mishka shielded her eyes, disoriented.

When she could see again, she gasped in shock.

The corridor was in ruins, debris everywhere.

Jean and her pack were nowhere to be seen, but neither was Bruce.

“Bruce?” Mishka called out, her voice shaking.

“Bruce!”

Graham tugged at her arm.

“We have to go, Mishka.

Now!”

As they stumbled towards the escape tunnel, the mansion groaned ominously around them.

Pieces of the ceiling began to fall, and the floor shifted beneath their feet.

They reached the entrance to the tunnel just as a terrible cracking sound filled the air.

Mishka looked back to see a large portion of the mansion’s east wing collapsing.

“Bruce!” she screamed, trying to go back.

Graham held her firmly.

“We can’t!

The whole place is coming down!”

With a final, anguished look at the destruction behind them, Mishka helped Graham into the tunnel.

As they fled into the darkness, the sounds of part of the collapsing mansion echoed behind them, along with the haunting howls of enraged werewolves.

After a while, Mishka and Graham emerged from the tunnel into the cool night air, the distant wail of sirens growing louder.

As they looked back at the cloud of dust rising from what was once Bruce’s magnificent mansion, Mishka was torn between relief at their escape and overwhelming fear for Bruce’s fate.

Amid the chaos of sirens, dust, and lingering howls, Mishka made a vow, “Whatever it takes, wherever I have to go, I will find Bruce – or die trying.”

“The emergency workers should be able to help him, I’m sure,” Graham uttered in a surprisingly powerful voice.

Mishka stared at him with her eyes stretched wide.

“Is he going to transform into wolf form and heal himself?” she asked herself.

She did not know much about the powers of werewolves.
