121: Learning more about Myrtle 121: Learning more about Myrtle Bruce had let Graham go against his will.
He did not to want to ask for further finances on his own behalf.
She should do only what the clan leader had asked.
Any extra costs could be covered by himself for the re-building of his mansion.
“We can’t let her think that she has now bought herself into my home legally.
We’re at peace now but that doesn’t mean that she has shares in my mansion and can therefore just come and go as she pleases.
I don’t think she can forgive me for not falling for her charm, so she should still be kept at arms’ length after this building restoration process.”
“But she should know exactly what the consequences of her actions are.
I will go and give her this statement from the architect,” Graham responded.
He walked away with the printed statement in his hand.
“Oh, my!
As long as you will be the one who will make sure that she does not come here constantly anymore!” Bruce called after him.
“She should actually have been banned from this city!” he told himself.
“I just hope that he remembers to tell her that she can’t come here at all.
Peace or no peace.
But, maybe I should let the clan leader know about this.”
Bruce continued to pace up and down on the outskirts of the building site, trying to make up his mind about what to do first.
“Maybe I shouldn’t go alone.
I need support to help me convince the clan about the fact that Jean and her friends should not be allowed anywhere near this village.
Who’s closest here?
Some clan members nearby can help.
But who?” he asked out at the bushes across the road.
He then remembered the older couple who had a home on the other side of the forest.
He then got into his vehicle and drove all the way to the other side of the forest.
Liz Curtley and her husband, James were happy to see Bruce paying them a visit for a change.
“To what do we owe this honor?” James asked as he grabbed Bruce’s hand in greeting.
“Yes, we last saw you at a ball!” Liz added, her eyes twinkling in delight.
“Oh, I actually came to see how you are and to ask for a bit of advice.
I hope you’re not busy?” Bruce responded.
Seeing their warm, familiar faces made him feel the tension just ease off him like a heavy cloak.
“Come in,” Liz responded as she led the way from the entrance hall to the lounge.
“Oh, am I right in saying that I smell your wonderful homemade chicken pie?” Bruce asked with his nose sniffing the air.
“Exactly that!
You’re not wrong,” James responded with a cheerful chuckle.
“Then I arrived at just the right time,” Bruce chuckled.
He then went on to explain the purpose of his visit to them.
“You’re right in asking for that crazy obsessed female to be kept away from here.
How can she cause so much damage to your mansion simply because of her temper?
By right she should have gone to jail,” James remarked afterwards.
Liz was busy cutting up the pie on the coffee table to serve with some wine.
“We’re having a late afternoon snack, which means we’ll have a late dinner,” she laughed.
“Oh, that’s the spirit!
One should reach a point of simply enjoying life instead of observing daily routines,” Bruce replied.
He was really glad that he had broken away from all the bizarre experiences of the past few days.
“There’s nothing better than having pie that’s straight out of a cottage oven,” James commented.
“You’re so right,” Bruce agreed.
“There’s something else that I wanted to get your opinion about.”
“Oh, what can that be?
We’re willing to listen, aren’t we?” Liz responded with her eyebrows raised after serving the pie.
She sat down with her own slice on a plate.
“It’s Mishka’s grandmother who has suddenly decided to show me her approval and support after she had me nearly kidnapped in Italy.
This is after her first episode of kidnapping me did not come to much back here at home,” Bruce announced.
“No!
Did she try to kidnap you again?” James asked with his eyes stretched wide in surprise.
“Oh yes!
But now she feels that we have common purposes.
It’s as if she found out that I have something that she needs suddenly.
She’s not even bothered about Mishka and me being together anymore.”
“Then you should definitely be very alert.
You have something that she wants,” Liz commented with her eyes wide for emphasis.
“I don’t understand because Mishka is the one who has something very powerful.
She has the moon star,” Bruce told himself on the inside.
He could not let others know about this yet.
“We actually know something very serious about Myrtle which I am sure Mishka doesn’t know about yet,” Liz began while keeping her gaze on the rug as she focused on what she was about to share.
“Oh, is that so?
Well, the more we know about her the better we will be able to judge whether it is at all possible for her to change from hate to love,” Bruce responded as he placed the last piece of pie from his plate into his mouth.
“Do you know Rose?
Myrtle’s close friend for many years?” James asked, keeping his gaze on Bruce steadily.
“I think I’ve heard about her from Mishka and her friends once.
Isn’t she a bit queer?” Bruce asked, staring at James with his eyes narrowed in focus.
“Well, I don’t know about that, but Rose had a son who disappeared years ago and Myrtle promised that she would help locate him with her skills of fortune telling, but she never succeeded,” James continued.
“He was in the navy when this happened,” Liz added.
“So, he just disappeared at sea?” Bruce asked, intrigued.
“Not exactly at sea.
He was supposed to go home from the docks one day but he never showed up,” Liz explained, sipping at her wine.
“Well, there were whispers that Myrtle had something to do with his disappearance,” James remarked in a low tone of voice.
“But, why?
Wasn’t she Rose’s friend?” Bruce asked, frowning in confusion.
“She was, but what if she was not so fond of Rose’s son, Victor?” Liz asked.
“Oh, do you mean they had differences with each other?” Bruce asked just above a whisper.
“According to Victor’s wife, Lucille,” Liz responded.
“Oh, this is becoming very complicated.
Where is Lucille now?” Bruce asked.
“According to Myrtle, she gave up after a few years of waiting for Victor to show up.
She moved away from here,” James replied.
“That’s understandable,” Bruce responded, scratching his head in contemplation.
“Some folks feel that Myrtle did have something to do with Victor’s disappearance after she discovered something about him that she did not approve of at all,” James remarked in a steady tone of voice.
“What could that have been?” Bruce asked in shock.
“Something which meant that she could have felt justified in having him eliminated from here,” Liz responded in a grave tone as she stared at the carpet again in distraction.
