122: Moving in Suspense 122: Moving in Suspense On his way back to the lodge where he was living temporarily, Bruce thought about the amazing news that he had heard about Myrtle.
Could it really be true that she was not such a good friend to Rose after all?
“When do I talk to Mishka about this?
She is spending the night at home to chat to her dad, so we can’t discuss this tonight.
I can’t talk to her on the phone about this either and it will be a cause for alarm if I just showed up there and said that something urgent came up,” he said to himself as he drove.
When he arrived at the lodge he went straight to his room.
It was too late to suddenly suggest a late dinner with Mishka when she was obviously going to have dinner with her dad.
‘I’m gonna burst from frustration if I don’t share this news with someone else.
What about Rose herself?” he asked himself as he stepped into the shower merely as a form of distraction.
He did not usually have a shower before dinner.
“I should have accepted Liz and James’ offer to stay for supper, then I wouldn’t have been so frustrated with no one to discuss this with now.
I can’t talk to Rose first either,” he muttered as he allowed the water to course over his body.
After his shower, Bruce got dressed in a hurry so that he could go out and have dinner somewhere else.
“I can’t stay in and have a late dinner by myself here if there’s a topic that I’m burning to discuss.
It’s better to have dinner in town and then just come back here to sleep when I’m tired.
I will talk to Mishka over breakfast somewhere discreet,” he said out loud as he checked himself in the mirror.
He had to try hard to remain patient.
When he picked up his car keys and his mobile phone he decided to check his messages quickly.
There could be news from Graham already about his meeting with Jean.
Bruce saw his message but there was one from Mishka as well.
He noticed that there was also a missed call from Mishka.
“Why didn’t I hear the phone ring?
Was the water making such a noise in the shower then?” he asked himself as he skipped to the messages.
“Oh no!
Mishka is going to the office in the morning, so I can’t talk to her at breakfast!” He punched his fist into the palm of his had in frustration.
This meant that he had to hold onto his news for even longer than just the night.
Bruce then checked Graham’s message.
He did not expect any surprises there and so he was not that driven to read the message.
He could more or less guess what the message would contain.
“He wants to talk over an early breakfast.
That could mean that it’s a mere formality, but it could also indicate that something unusual came up.
Why should I spend my night in so much suspense?
Probably because I’m not in my own house and I have too much time on my hands,” he mumbled as he walked out of his lodge bedroom.
“So, you say that she does not want another chance at visiting me at my home?” Bruce asked Graham when they were having breakfast out in the lodge garden the following morning.
“No, definitely not.
Maybe she has finally given up because she did see you and Mishka together.
She knows that she has used up her last chance because it’s not the first time that she’s caused trouble at your mansion,” Graham responded as he stared down at his plate in contemplation.
“Or maybe she’s thinking that I will eventually calm down as in the past and allow her back into my home,” Bruce responded as he tried to guess Jean’s true intentions.
“Then let the clan leaders keep a firm leash on her,” Graham suggested.
“I will also keep trying to distract her and Theresa with flirtations.”
“Well, as long as you flatter them and not infuriate them, because then they can complain to the clan leadership about harassment.”
“No, they will be flattered.
I will even get a few friends to help me keep them busy,” Graham replied with a giggle.
“Are you sure that you still want to involve yourself in this mess?
Remember how Jean and her friend threatened you in Milan?
Then they attacked you physically at my house afterwards?” Bruce asked, looking at Graham with his eyes narrowed in concern.
“No, I promise that I will play safe and have fun at the same time,” Graham responded with a contented grin.
“Alright then, but just remember to pull away at the right time,” Bruce cautioned.
He was very tempted to tell Graham about what he had heard last night at the cottage on the other side of the woods.
But was Graham mature enough at this point to handle news like that?
Could he help in any manner if he was already helping with keeping Jean in check?
“You just need more security measures in place at your mansion,” Graham remarked.
“Yes, the engineers said so,” Bruce responded.
“But there should also not be any reason for me to be intimidated in my own town or home.”
“You’re right.
These ladies should learn common decency and restrain themselves.
I hope they don’t go crazy on me again because I was the one who messed with them by sending them gifts and pretending to be interested in them a few months back.”
“Yes, that could really make them go all out again and decide to destroy you completely for wasting their time.
Don’t mention it,” Bruce responded as he stirred more cream into his coffee.
“It seems as if you have something more on your mind,” Graham said as he studied Bruce’s movements.
At this Bruce looked up in alarm.
He had forgotten that Graham also had wolf instincts.
He could not hide his true moods or feelings from Graham, but could he just give way to caution and discuss Mishka’s grandmother with him before discussing it with her?
