124: Connecting with Rose 124: Connecting with Rose “I think we will only have an idea after we speak to Rose,” Bruce remarked after Mishka’s question.

He frowned down at his plate.

“I think I should go to her cottage right now.

I’m done with work and I already had a chat with my Dad at dinner last night, so I’m free,” Mishka responded.

She began to eat the rest of her pizza very quickly.

“Well, I should come with because I would like to find out more about this situation from her myself,” Bruce remarked as he also hastily tucked into his meal to finish up.

“Oh, but I think that I should go to her alone at first since she has already confided in me about her lost son,” Mishka responded.

“Besides, she will not be at ease with you there because she barely knows you.

Isn’t that right?” Mishka responded.

“Oh, but I can remember other details about what that couple told me and that could help her remember.

I don’t think she will mind chatting with me.

She should feel confident about the fact that I have my ways of finding out about things like this.”

“Uhmm, I’m not so sure… She’s a bit odd, you know?

I don’t think that she will confide in a stranger so easily.

Maybe I should tell her that you can help her as well.

You see, I sort of promised her that I would help her find her son, but that was a couple of months ago.

I actually feel guilty about forgetting about that,” Mishka responded with her mouth corners turned down sadly.

“Then she might be excited to see that you’ve brought some help along.

Someone to assist you in your search attempts?” Bruce remarked with an eager look in his eyes.

“I see you’re really excited and motivated about embarking on this missing person search project.

Then we can go together but, just remember to be very gentle with Rose.

I think that this loss has changed her over the years and she sometimes seems forgetful.

Not very focused, you know,” Mishka responded, making eye contact with Bruce so that she could be sure that he understood what she was trying to say.

“Alright then, thank you for telling me.

I will be careful with her.

Then let’s go and see what we can do for the poor old soul,” Bruce said as he wiped his mouth with a napkin and signaled for a waiter to bring the bill.

Rose was happy to see Mishka again so shortly after seeing her at Myrtle’s home.

She also seemed to be pleasantly surprised to see Bruce again.

“What a lovely surprise to see the two of you here!” she exclaimed with a broad smile.

“And to what do I owe this honour?”

“Oh, we were just talking about you while we were sitting in a restaurant, so we figured that we should pop in.

I for one, still owe you a visit,” Mishka responded with a courteous smile in return.

“Well, do come in and sit in my private lounge with me.

I’m having tea there.

And what can I get for the two of you?” Rose suggested as she led the way down a small passage.

“Oh, anything that you’ve got ready, like tea or coffee, but don’t be too concerned about us now.

We had a late lunch just a while ago,” Mishka replied.

“Anyway, I don’t have any freshly baked goodies.

Last time I could offer you scones and so on.

This time I’ve just been lazy to bake,” Rose responded with an apologetic smile.

“Oh, yes!

That was wonderful!

It tasted so divine!

But we came unexpectedly.

Don’t blame yourself.

I know that you’re very good in the kitchen.

Next time we will give you enough notice before we just show up,” Mishka remarked with a warm smile.

She wanted to see whether Rose was happy about her bringing Bruce along.

He was her boyfriend, but he was also a wolf and Mishka knew that Rose had some misgivings about wolves.

Both her and Myrtle.

“Then I guess that something must have happened to cause you to come over unexpectedly.

Is everything alright?” Rose asked with her eyebrows raised high from concern.

“Well, something happened, but it’s no emergency.

We came to talk to you about a promise that I made to you a while ago,” Mishka responded with a flush of embarrassment on her cheeks.

“Oh?

Now what can that be?” Rose asked with a frown as she tried to remember what Mishka could possibly have promised her.

“It’s about your son.

Mishka feels guilty about not having started a search for him yet,” Bruce responded with a sympathetic gaze.

“Oh?

But did we officially plan to search for him again?

A search like that could cost a lot of money,” Rose responded, frowning at Mishka.

“But, you do want to search for him again, don’t you?” Bruce remarked in a very gentle tone.

“With every breath that’s inside of me, yes.

He hasn’t returned in such a long time.

Where could he be?”

“I understand that his wife has left town also?” Mishka asked.

“Oh, well she was another kind of person.

One never really knew with her.

She was very private and subdued,” Rose responded as she looked at the carpet pensively.

“Oh, so you did not communicate much then, I assume?” Mishka asked looking at Rose carefully.

“We used to before, when he was still around, but when he went missing there were all kinds of rumors.

I did not pay attention to them though.

I just wanted my son back,” Rose responded with a distant, sad look in her eyes.

“Of course.

People do that unfortunately and they don’t realize that they aren’t helping while they pass rumors around,” Bruce responded as he studied Rose’s face.

“We just heard a disturbing rumor ourselves,” Mishka remarked.

At this Rose’s eyes stretched wide from shock mingled with surprise.

“About my son?” she asked, frowning.

“Yes and about my grandmother,” Mishka responded.

She hoped that Rose would not decide to be loyal to her friend and refuse to listen to them.

“I don’t understand.

What could Myrtle possibly know about my son?

We both searched for him for so long.

Has she discovered something new?” Rose asked with a deeper frown on her brow as she glanced from Mishka to Bruce.
