125: Unveiling Myrtle’s latest plans 125: Unveiling Myrtle’s latest plans Mishka and Bruce looked at each other briefly at Rose’s question.
“Well, the rumors that we heard seem to imply that my grandmother has not been such a good friend to you.
At least that’s what some people are saying,” Mishka responded with a slight flush of embarrassment on her cheeks.
“What do you mean?” Rose asked, frowning in confusion.
“Bruce has been speaking to some friends of his yesterday and they said that my grandmother might not have been as loyal in searching for your son as you might have thought.”
Rose was quiet for a moment before answering.
“Who are they and why do they say this?
Do they know something about her that I don’t yet know?” she asked, raising her eyebrows.
“They say that your son and Myrtle had some disagreements about certain things.
It seems as if some people feel that Myrtle had something to do with your son’s disappearance,” Bruce explained.
Rose shrugged and let out a deep sigh.
“There have been many rumors about conspiracies.
This can be just one of them.
One would need proof in order to have a cause for suspecting something,” she continued.
“Well, we would love to do our own search with new methods and new information.
Unfortunately, we can’t afford to ignore hints and extra information.
We might even get to know certain people better in the process,” Mishka remarked.
“I can also ask some specialists for advice,” Bruce added as he glanced at Rose carefully.
“I would be very happy if you could help but I can’t say that I’m hopeful.
You will understand that, hey?” Rose responded with a smile and a nod.
“Of course.
We can only guess at how many times you might have been hopeful and then found yourself disappointed,” Bruce remarked in a patient tone.
“Well, it seems as if your coming here this evening is not coincidence.
I have been wanting to share a few interesting facts about Myrtle with Mishka,” Rose remarked with a smile.
“Oh, you do?
Then you can go ahead.
You don’t have to worry about Bruce.
He won’t betray your confidence,” Mishka responded with a quick glance at Bruce.
“By the way, I’m feeling a little bit hungry now and I remember that there’s an apple pie in the fridge which only needs to be warmed up.
Do you mind if we carry on the conversation over coffee in the kitchen?” Rose asked with an enquiring look at Bruce.
“Oh, I love kitchen conversations!” Bruce responded with a chuckle.
He genuinely seemed to be looking forward to the change of venue.
“Rose’s kitchen is just charming.
You might find yourself visiting for much longer than you planned,” Mishka added with a smile as she and Rose got up from their chairs.
“So, you must have something important to share?” Mishka asked, unable to contain herself.
“Well, Myrtle has always been interested in the wolves who were killed in our woods years ago,” Rose continued as she led the way to the kitchen.
“Oh, has she?
Why?
Was she opposed to what happened?” Mishka asked in surprise.
“Well, she feels that the people who did it or ordered it were actually trying to kill werewolves,” Rose replied with a quick glance at Mishka and Bruce when they reached the kitchen.
“So, does she actually want to do something about it for the sake of concern?
She did not approve of humans and werewolves being friends,” Mishka remarked as she sat down at the wooden table.
Bruce sat down too and waited for the rest of Rose’s news with baited breath.
“In the past, yes,” Rose continued.
“But these days she wants to find out where the other werewolves escaped to during that time.
She says that she wants to find out if any of them returned here in the interrim.”
“So, is she genuinely interested in knowing about them?
Does she suddenly have compassion on them?
I don’t think so,” Mishka responded looking at Bruce and shaking her head.
“Well, she actually wants to make a television documentary on those wolves,” Rose responded with a twinkle in her eye as she placed the pie into the oven.
She seemed to find the situation amusing.
“What?
She wants to make a documentary?
That’s so strange and modern of her.
Does she really care that much or is she trying to find out something else with this new venture of hers?” Mishka asked, frowning and twisting her mouth in distaste.
“I think she got the idea from those TV programs that she’s been watching,” Rose hinted.
“But, those programs were about witches,” Mishka responded, still frowning in confusion.
“Did you watch all of them with her?” Rose asked.
“No, they were not in my taste, so I stopped watching them with her,” Mishka replied.
“Then maybe she was watching werewolves as well, for all you know,” Bruce remarked with an amused grin on his face.
“That’s what I think as well.
But, I also feel that she might be drawn to the idea of fame suddenly, just from the way that she’s excited and dreaming about it all,” Rose remarked with a smile as she made the coffee.
“That’s so strange when she doesn’t like the idea of fame and publicity.
She never wanted me to be on stage,” Mishka remarked, shaking her head doubtfully.
“Well, maybe she’s changed her mind after seeing your successful tour in Italy.
She actually wants to go on a tour to find as many werewolf survivors from our town as possible,” Rose remarked as she poured coffee into three mugs.
“I doubt that she’s doing it on Bruce’s behalf.
So, it might be her quest for fame, as you say,” Mishka said shaking her head in disbelief again.
“I think it’s a quest for power,” Bruce commented as he stared at the coffee in his cup pensively.
“Well, she already knows about Theresa who’s been following her.
Why doesn’t she start with her?” Mishka asked.
“You’re right.
She can ask Bruce as well,” Rose agreed.
“Then maybe that’s what she’s trying to do in getting closer to me by accepting me in Mishka’s life,” Bruce remarked with a shrug as he tried to think of Myrtle’s motives.
“She’s clever, but yes, also devious,” Mishka responded.
“We shouldn’t be fooled by her.”
“She can’t fool me, but maybe this is all pretense.
Maybe she wants something else.
Something that we’ve got,” Bruce continued.
“But what could that be?” Rose asked, frowning at him curiously.
