126: Planning the procedure 126: Planning the procedure Mishka avoided Rose’s gaze at this point.

Was Bruce referring to the Moonstone?

It was enough that Myrtle had detected it through her powers.

The fewer people who knew about it the better.

They should make sure that they don’t tell Rose about it.

Hopefully her powers were not as strong detectors as Myrtle’s.

“We will have to find out what exactly she wants from us,” Bruce responded with a shrug, casting a quick glance at Mishka who gave a quick smile in return.

“Well, let’s find out if she has anything to do with your son’s disappearance,” Mishka said as she continued to sip at her coffee.

“Yes, while we make sure that we search for your son.

But, should we search for your daughter-in-law as well, or do you know where she is?” Bruce asked.

“Oh, she wrote to me when she was living with a friend a while ago,” Rose responded.

“She might have moved on and declared her husband as presumed dead?

I don’t know,” Rose responded.

“I think your pie is ready,” Mishka said, sniffing the air.

“It sure does smell good.

Do you need any help with taking it out?” Bruce asked, rising from his chair because Rose seemed emotionally touched by the topic of conversation.

“Oh, don’t worry,” she responded and she was up from her chair in an instant to pick up her oven gloves from the cupboard.

“I really think that Myrtle can start by talking to the wolves that she has already been in touch with, like Theresa.

They didn’t talk, but they made eye contact at least, though it wasn’t friendly.

She can start by asking Theresa about her true motives behind following her and Mishka,” Rose continued as she removed the pie from the oven and placed it on a wire rack.

“Yes, but it should take some time to win Theresa’s trust,” Mishka responded.

“She might be very difficult.

Maybe you should approach her and you can pretend to have contacts amongst wolves.

She doesn’t have a history with you, so maybe she will trust you.

Oh, tell her that your gardener knows some wolves around.”

“That’s a good idea, but who says that Myrtle will trust me with her personal project,” Rose responded.

“Oh, just try her.

You never know.

She might realize that she needs your help,” Bruce remarked while he kept his eyes on the golden, freshly baked pie.

“Yes, remind her about your gardener and his wolf contacts,” Mishka added, her eyes bright with anticipation.

“That’s a good idea,” Bruce responded as he checked Rose’s face for her reaction.

“You know what?

People or wolves like Theresa and Jean might be hanging around for the purpose of seeking revenge for the wolves which were driven away,” Rose remarked, frowning deeply.

“Oh, but we already know that they are just driven by their desire for wanting a mate who’s already involved with someone else.

I don’t think they care about other wolves,” Bruce remarked.

“Or rather, someone who is just not attracted to them,” Mishka added.

“You never know, though.

They might be smarter than we think,” Rose remarked as she stared at the pie, unseeing.

“Is this some kind of hunch of yours?” Mishka asked, frowning in concern.

“It would be very bad for us if we underestimate them.”

“Well, Jean did display her jealousy by ruining my mansion,” Bruce responded with a dark look in his eyes as he looked at the cupboard in front of him.

“That was really bad, yes.

I saw it in the newspaper,” Rose responded as she glanced at Bruce, her eyes softening in sympathy.

“Well, we won’t underestimate them either.

But, do ask my grandmother if she could allow you to assist her with her wolf search project,” Mishka responded.

“I will try and find out what she’s really after as well,” Rose responded as she began to cut the pie and placed a slice on each of the side plates which she had removed from a cupboard in the meanwhile.

She then scooped some cream next to each slice before serving the pie.

“But, what about her cat friend?

Surely he knows a lot about so many things.

He can certainly help Grandma a lot?” Mishka suggested, raising her brows in surprise as the idea hit her.

“Cats and wolves?

Isn’t he supposed to be afraid of them?” Rose asked with a skeptic look in her eyes.

“Not a magician cat man.

He changes into a man as well.

He might know a great deal more than Jean even.

Maybe he knows about your son as well?” Bruce remarked as Rose placed his plate in front of him.

“Now, I won’t be able to focus very well anymore with this in front of me,” Mishka remarked with a smile as she picked up her fork to tackle her piece of apple pie.

“Anyway, I don’t think that Ivan the magician would approach a wolf while he himself is in cat form.”

“Yes, it would be good if we could get opinions from more than one person.

Once Myrtle finds herself surrounded by an entire group of people who are aware of her plans and want to help she won’t feel as if she’s in complete control anymore,” Bruce remarked with a smirk.

“Then we can firmly inform her that we want to search for Rose’s missing son.

We can see from her reaction whether she has anything to do with his disappearance,” Mishka remarked.

“I don’t really think she’s involved or I would have found out long ago.

But, go ahead and follow your own instincts,” Rose responded with a resigned shrug.

“We will do everything that we can to find out what Myrtle’s motive is and we will also use every tool at our availability to track down your son’s whereabouts,” Bruce promised before he rose from his chair.

“Thank you so much for that wonderful apple pie.

I should have visited here a lot earlier,” he continued as he stood upright towering above Rose’s average height as she also stood up.

“I think our craving for your baking will make sure that we keep you updated quite regularly!” Mishka commented with a hearty giggle.

“Oh, you’re very welcome.

I hope you succeed,” Rose responded, looking down at the table, pensively.

“Me too.

We will be back soon, I’m sure.

Goodnight, now,” Mishka responded.

She hugged Rose quickly and began to lead the way down the passage which led to the front door.

“Yes, anything can happen, but let’s hope to find the answers that we’re looking for.

Goodnight!” Bruce added as he gave Rose’s hand a tight squeeze before following Mishka.
