127: Moonstone fears 127: Moonstone fears “I think your grandmother wants the control of the Moonstone.
I don’t know about her search for missing wolves,” Bruce remarked when he and Mishka drove away in his vehicle a while later.
“Can she perhaps trace them with the Moonstone?” Mishka asked, her eyes suddenly flying wide open as the thought struck her.
“Maybe that’s just a smokescreen that she’s using so that she can get the Moonstone.
Do you notice that all these new plans of hers seem to have come up rather suddenly?”
“You think that it’s not something that she’s been thinking about before?” Mishka asked as she tried to think about Myrtle’s motives herself.
“That’s what I’m thinking at the moment,” Bruce responded.
“Yes, but we should not be so focused on the Moonstone that we overlook other possible causes for her actions.
For instance, she began to watch those weird TV programs about witches and wolves a while ago already.
So, maybe we should look into everything as a whole and avoid becoming paranoid about the Moonstone.”
“I suppose that, because I’m a wolf and because of the unexpected way that we came into possession of the Moonstone…, yes, I will be extra protective about it.
I consider it first whenever there’s the slightest chance of it falling into the wrong hands,” Bruce responded as he drove into the gates of the lodge.
“Well, then let’s secure the Moonstone while we keep a close eye on my grandmother’s activities,” Mishka suggested as Bruce parked the vehicle.
“You mean because we are now trying to find Rose’s son?” Bruce asked, studying her face closely.
“Yes indeed.
We need to know whether Grandma is involved in the man’s disappearance,” Mishka responded, frowning seriously.
“Are you worried that she could be a whole lot more dangerous than we thought?” Bruce asked, observing Mishka’s facial expression while he himself was beginning to feel a bit scared.
“Yes, but I don’t want to frighten myself by making assumptions too early.
We must do research about Grandma’s past.”
“And we should still make sure that Jean and Theresa keep away from my mansion permanently, so I have to see the clan leader about that,” Bruce reminded her.
Mishka listened to him intently and then an idea hit her.
“Can you ask him if he knows anything about my Grandma?”
“It might be a bit risky.
He would want to know about my motives and I’m not that ready to confide in him yet.
Not about local people, no.”
“So, how can we do research about her past?” Mishka asked, trying to think about anyone who might know Mishka as well as Rose did or even better.
“I can just ask Liz and James Curtley again.
They told me that there are people who know about Myrtle’s past.
There were many rumors about her in the past thirty years or so.
Someone might want to open up,” Bruce responded with a shrug.
“Great!
We can also discreetly ask Rose’s gardener who has friends amongst some of the wolves here,” Mishka responded, frowning in thought.
“Mmm…I will have to meet him soon.
He might be able to help me get to know some other wolves here.
I’m new to the area and I still don’t know the others here closely.
I’m just a stranger to them.”
“Yes, that’s a good idea, but I have to go home now and check on the Moonstone in my secret hiding place,” Mishka said before giving Bruce a kiss on the lips.
“Gosh!
I didn’t realize that the time was running along.
I don’t want you to raise Myrtle’s suspicions about us planning anything behind her back.
We didn’t even have a proper dinner,” Bruce responded as he hugged her closely.
“Oh, that apple pie was enough for me,” Mishka responded as she got out of the car.
Fortunately for her, she did not have to drive too far to get home.
“It would be a good idea to go on another trip if the Moonstone is not safe in this town,” Bruce remarked as he walked with her to her car.
“A trip mainly to keep the Moonstone away from Grandma?” Mishka asked in a whisper.
“Well, we could make a good fashion and music tour out of it,” Bruce responded as he opened the door of her vehicle for her.
“Alright, we can think about it, but preparation is important.
You still have to launch an opening of your mansion and settle in again first.
Not to mention preparing new designs,” Mishka responded as she got into her car and closed the door.
“How does Japan sound?” Bruce asked with a twinkle in his eyes.
“Japan?
Have you been thinking about this for a while then?” Mishka asked, frowning up at him.
He looked extra tall standing there next to her car with the moon shining on his dark blonde hair.
“Not really.
The thought just hit me.
It can be a fun-filled adventure in a magically beautiful and vibrant place,” Bruce responded, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
“Wait, what’s that sound?”
Mishka leaned her head to the side, trying to listen.
“Isn’t it just an animal in the bush?” she asked.
She was getting a bit drowsy from all the heavy eating.
She just wanted to get home and to her bed as soon as possible.
“Hopefully.
I just hope it’s not someone from the wolf clan spying on us.”
“You mean, like Jean?” Mishka asked, trying to focus now.
“Maybe.
So, you can drive home, but I will be following you shortly to see if anyone is stalking you,” Bruce responded.
“I’m sure I will be okay.
Maybe it’s just an animal.
Anyway, I can’t show Jean or her friends that I’m afraid of her.”
“I will follow at a safe distance anyway, just in case and surprise them if they try anything.”
“Don’t you think that the weight of having to repair your mansion has placed a heavy burden on Jean?
She will be too frustrated and afraid of the Clan leaders to try something now.
If anyone is out there then it might be Graham, who is concerned about you,” Mishka giggled, trying to sound cheerful and relaxed.
“That would be good, but one should be cautious especially in these times,” Bruce responded looking as the forest across the lodge.
There were other houses around, but they were far from the lodge and not very close to each other either.
“Wait!
What if it’s your Grandma’s spies?” he continued, suddenly frowning and his eyes clouding over in suspicion.
