74: Mishka ready for her wolf hunt 74: Mishka ready for her wolf hunt Mishka moved between the porch and the garden as she sang.

The song was so much better to sing now.

She could imagine audiences beyond her hometown loving it, singing along and applauding happily at the end of the song.

But tonight she was not only focusing on the song.

She was waiting for the creatures who came quite close to the fence on the previous time when she had practiced her song from the porch to the end of the gardens, near the woods.

“I hope Jim and Gillian aren’t gonna be late.

We have to see whoever is in the woods, watching me while they are still in their human form.

That’s if we’re lucky and if they are indeed wolves.

Jim will deal with them and threaten them with a gun if they want to attack us,” Mishka told herself inwardly as she continued to pace up and down, singing.

“Can it be that they’re just drawn by my voice or the song?

Can they perhaps be just innocently watching like a normal audience?” Mishka asked herself.

When she had seen the eyes from the woods which were shining like lights at her on that evening, she had just felt threatened.

She didn’t know whether they were wolves a distance away or stray cat eyes, close by.

Mishka had told Gillian about the incident as soon as Mishka was in her own bedroom.

Gillian had already gone home after her hairdressing session with Clara by then.

“Oh, do you say that you saw bright, shining wolf eyes?” Gillian had asked in an amazed tone of voice.

“Yes, or it could be cats who were near the fence.

I couldn’t judge the distance in the dark,” Mishka had responded.

“It could be wolves though,” Gillian had responded.

“There can be werewolves out there, you know?” Gillian had remarked in a low tone of voice.

“That sounds dramatic.

Can’t it just be normal wolves, because we do have ordinary wolves out here,” Mishka had responded in a light tone of voice, even though her heart was beginning to pound heavily in her chest.

Since when did Gillian talk about wolves?

“Clara spoke to me about hairstyles, but guess what she taught me about as well?

Gillian had asked in a serious, low tone of voice.

“Witchcraft?” Mishka responded immediately.

She hoped that the trick had worked and that Clara had revealed some of Myrtle’s witchcraft projects from the past.

“No, we didn’t even get to that discussion because then she began to talk to me about werewolves who could actually quite easily still be around us,” Gillian had remarked in the same low tone of voice.

She sounded really mysterious.

“So, Clara knows about werewolves?

Then my grandmother probably knows about them as well.

That means that the stalker woman who’s following me in my car could in fact really be a werewolf as I had thought.

You know, the wolf that I saw in the woods that day?” Mishka asked.

She had given Gillian only half of the story at the time, just so that Gillian would know that the stalker could possibly be a wolf.

Gillian did not want to hear about werewolves back then, but she had apparently changed her opinion a lot ever since.

Gillian did not know that Bruce had also been with Mishka in the woods during that same incident.

“Yes, you said that the wolf was white and that the stalker lady had the same colour blonde hair,” Gillian agreed.

“Well, I wanted to lure them out and see if they will come right up to the gate,” Mishka had commented.

“If they’re in wolf form you won’t easily know whether they are humans also, or whether they’re just real wolves who are drawn to your voice,” Gillian had replied.

“Well then, can’t you come here and then we can go and search for them in the woods before sunset?

We can then see if we can catch them in human form?” Mishka had asked.

“Yes, it will be interesting if you could find that stalker in the woods as a human before she changes into her wolf form.

It actually makes sense that she would watch you from the woods if she’s busy stalking you.

Regular stalkers sometimes wear disguises, so she has a better advantage, being a wolf.

She can just change into wolf form when it’s convenient,” Gillian had remarked.

“But then, what if we go looking for her and she attacks us while she’s in wolf form?” Mishka had responded as the realization hit her.

“Gosh, yes.

We will need help.

Why don’t we ask Jim, your family gardener to go with us to observe wolves?

We don’t have to tell him that we’re looking for werewolves.

He can be a bodyguard for us,” Gillian had suggested.

“Okay, then I will wait for the two of you on the back porch while I sing,” Mishka had responded.

Now her fear was mingled with excitement at the prospect of going out into the woods before sunset and maybe meeting a wolf or two.

“If they’re following my music then they will definitely be out there somewhere by now,” Mishka murmured to herself as she looked out at the woods.

“Hey, there!

Are you ready for your late afternoon walk?” Jim asked behind Mishka while she was still deep in thought, staring at the woods.

“Yes, definitely, Jim.

I’m just waiting for Gillian,” Mishka responded, turning around.

“It’s getting a bit late though.

I don’t want to be out there when it actually gets dark.

Those same wolves which appear innocent in the daylight can become lethal at night.

Most animals become dangerous at night,” Jim remarked in a concerned tone of voice as he looked at Mishka to make sure that she was aware of the dangers.

“We don’t have to go too far out if it gets late,” Mishka responded while she hoped that Gillian would arrive soon.

“Oh, here you are.

I understand that you guys are off wolf hunting this evening?” Mishka heard behind her.

She turned around swiftly to see Clara standing in the doorway of the kitchen.

“Oh, boy!

How much did Gillian tell her?

Does she know that I’m actually looking for werewolves?

Did Gillian tell her that I know about her associations with werewolves?” Mishka asked herself as she looked back at Clara, hoping that Jim would say something.
