75: An interesting discovery in the forest 75: An interesting discovery in the forest “Yes, we haven’t seen any wolves around recently, so we’re making a mission of it, just before sunset,” Mishka responded.
Clara nodded with her gaze resting steadily on Mishka.
“Yes, but it’s not a good idea to be out there late because then you could run into night creatures,” Clara remarked, speaking slowly and in a steady tone of voice.
It was as if she was giving a warning, but at the same time she did not want anyone to be alarmed.
“What are those?” Mishka asked frowning.
“She might be referring to werewolves, but then again, she might be talking about something else out there that’s strange,” she thought to herself.
“Well, bats for instance.
Owls are also frightening at night with those big eyes.
In fact, most creatures which are harmless during the day can be dangerous or even lethal at night,” Clara responded with her arms folded across her chest and a mysterious look in her eyes as she stared past Mishka at nothing particular.
“That’s actually exciting because we know how to act when we come across bats and owls.
It will be a brief touch of excitement,” Mishka remarked with an amused smile on her face.
“She doesn’t seem to have any indication that I know about the supernatural things which might be happening around me,” Mishka told herself inwardly.
“Be careful out there, though.
Don’t go too far into the woods and come back quickly,” Clara remarked before turning around and walking back into the kitchen.
Mishka felt a slight shudder going through her after Clara’s words.
She sighed in relief when she heard Gillian’s vehicle coming down the driveway.
“There she is now,” Mishka remarked.
“We will have to tell Milla that we’re going into the woods, just so that she can time us and make sure that she contacts us now and then.
She has to make sure that we’re alright,” she added.
“I will go and call her now,” Jim suggested.
He seemed eager to be doing something other than just stand around.
“Okay then, thank you Jim,” Mishka responded before walking over to Gillian who was getting out of her car.
“Clara was just here warning about dangers involving night creatures in the woods,” Mishka immediately said in a low tone of voice.
“But we’re going out there during the day,” Gillian responded with a frown.
“No, she was warning us about staying in the woods until after dark.
She says everything changes then,” Mishka remarked in a low tone as they walked towards the back porch.
Milla and Jim came out of the kitchen then with quick steps.
“Don’t you rather want to skip the trip for now?” Milla asked.
“It sounds scary to be going into the woods until night,” she added, frowning at Mishka with a worried look in her eyes.
“We’re not gonna be long.
In fact, if we don’t leave now, we will get back late,” Mishka responded.
“We just want you to call one of us now and then, just to make sure that we’re not running into unexpected situations out there,” she added.
“Okay, I can do that, but I’m going to be very nervous while waiting for you to come back safely,” Milla responded, still frowning.
“Why don’t you just pray and try not to fall asleep when you should be calling us,” Jim teased.
“Sleep?
So then you are planning to be out until dark,” Milla responded looking at the small group in concern.
“No, we won’t.
You just make sure that my grandma doesn’t find out that we’re venturing out to the forest at this time of day,” Mishka remarked in a low tone of voice.
“Okay then, I will keep some food aside for you,” Milla promised.
“Yes and make sure that you eat as well otherwise you won’t concentrate.
You’ll just be nervous all the time,” Mishka advised.
“The atmosphere is so dreamy and tranquil here.
It’s hard to even imagine anything sinister happening out here,” Gillian remarked when they were all standing next to a big tree in the forest.
They could see glimpses of the lake not too far from them.
The golden glow of the setting sun was reflected on its surface.
“Please don’t even think about crossing over to the other side of the lake.
We will most certainly get back home after dark in that case,” Jim warned as he glimpsed at the sparkling waters of the lake which were visible through the tree branches.
“Hush, I can hear voices,” Gillian suddenly remarked with a finger across her lips.
“Voices?
Are you sure?
I can’t here anything,” Mishka responded.
“It’s towards that side,” Gillian remarked, pointing at a spot not far from them.
Mishka slowly walked in the direction that Gillian was pointing.
She then beckoned with her hand for Jim and Gillian to follow her.
“I can also hear them now,” she said in a low tone of voice.
Jim and Gillian followed Mishka while she noiselessly walked towards the sound of the voices.
“Yes, they’re very close now,” Gillian whispered after a few minutes.
“Female voices?” Jim suggested.
“Yes, I think so,” Mishka agreed as she peeped through the tree branches to see where the voices came from.
“Oh, it’s a group of ladies.
It seems as if they’re just having a picnic.
Look at that tray of food,” Gillian remarked when they were very close to the voices.
“They seem to be having fun.
Let’s go introduce ourselves,” she continued with an eager smile as she took the lead in walking over to the other group.
“Four ladies.
What are they doing having a picnic so late?” Jim asked as he walked on, a little bit more boldly now.
“They’re just having fun,” Gillian replied as she walked towards the group of women confidently.
“Let’s be careful, though,” Mishka cautioned, but Gillian was not waiting for her to catch up.
“Let me rush along before I get left behind,” Mishka remarked to herself as she quickened her steps.
“Hey there, are you alright?” Gillian called while she was still a distance away from the female group.
“They look like they could be women from a wolf pack.
Just look at those eyes.
They seem to have a piercing light in them,” Mishka whispered to herself.
She could see their eyes from a distance.
“Yes, we’re okay,” one of the women on the other side answered in a loud, clear voice.
Mishka continued to follow Jim and Gillian who were now almost right in front of the four women.
“It’s a nice spot for a picnic, with the river not so far away for washing your hands,” Gillian remarked with a nervous giggle.
Mishka finally reached the picnic group.
There was a nervous twitch in her stomach at this point.
She stood in the gap between Jim and Gillian to observe the strangers.
“No!
I can’t believe it,” Mishka whispered as she stared at the women who were now right in front of her.
She immediately recognized the blonde who was stalking her lately.
