Chapter 2: The Noisy Farewell
Chapter 2: The Noisy Farewell
Sunlight had already covered the earth an hour ago. Less than thirty yards from the city gate, a carriage pulled by two black horses had been parked there since before the Sun rose. The curtain of the carriage was occasionally lifted, with gazes of looking and searching, which further showed the anxiety of the carriage owner.
Finally, when the curtain was lifted once again and the gaze looked out and searched again, a straight figure came into her view. Then, before she could react, that figure unexpectedly walked straight towards her.
“D-Dean…”
Lainey jumped out of the carriage, ignoring her identity and demeanor, wanting to rush towards the man who had kept her heart attached. But as soon as she lifted her leg, she remembered that the current situation had become so bad and unmanageable because of her.
He is here to blame me, right?
Hesitation appeared in Lainey’s heart, and that bad idea made her unable to move even a little, especially when she saw the man she had waited for running towards her in a hurry, which confirmed such a thought; you have to know, this was something that Dean would never do in normal times.
Unless he is very happy… or very angry!
Even if he slaps me, I must explain clearly!
The Miss of the Javier Family told herself this, clenched her teeth tightly, and prepared to endure the slap directly.
And then… she received a hug, an unexpected hug. That suddenness, and the different feeling, made the face of the Miss of the Javier Family, who had considerable fame in the Capital of Emerald, turn red instantly. The high temperature on her face even made her smart brain confused for a moment, and she didn’t even hear her lover’s words clearly.
“Lainey, long time no see!”
“Mm, mm…”
The Miss nodded mechanically. The breath she felt on her nose made her eyes dizzy, and her body began to soften in waves.
“Wait for me. Give me one year! I will come back, I will come back openly!”
Dean held the woman in his arms and made a solemn promise — in his previous life, it was precisely because this promise was lacking that the woman in his arms committed suicide by poison half a year before the engagement banquet arranged by her family; and when he received the news, the Blood Moon War had already broken out. Not to say seeing each other again, with the fall of the Capital of Emerald, he didn’t even have the chance to visit her Tomb.
Although he had chopped up her fiancé, the Vice Regiment Commander of the Central Knight Order who defected, and fed him to the dogs, what could that do?
Lost is lost!
And only by losing do you understand how to cherish.
Dean had laughed at his own childishness countless times; being used by those people to attack with such low-level words and harming a woman who loved him dearly; thinking about that ridiculous behavior like escape made his arms involuntarily tighten; even the coachman couldn’t stand it anymore.
“Cough, cough… Dean Ken Knight, pay attention, please pay attention, this is the main street!”
The coachman’s reminder brought Dean back to his senses, and also brought Lainey back to her senses. This Miss immediately, when Dean let go of her arms, covered her face and jumped back into the carriage. Revealing the upper half of her nose and face from the window frame, a pair of sapphire-blue eyes with three parts nervousness and seven parts shyness looked at Dean, and at the passers-by who were casting kind glances in their direction.
“Remember, wait for me to return! One year!”
Dean reminded Lainey again. The Miss nodded repeatedly to show she understood; however, the hug earlier clearly made this Miss extremely shy. She still only showed her eyes looking at Dean, without revealing her beautiful face.
“Help me take care of Lainey!”
Smiling, Dean looked at Lainey once more, then turned his gaze to Lainey’s most loyal servant; this coachman’s face carried blessings and determination, saying: “I swear by my Health!”
The coachman spoke words exactly the same as his actions in Dean’s previous life. Dean accepted his oath, but he absolutely would not let such things happen again.
The brief meeting was about to end. Just as Dean turned with reluctance to prepare to set off, Lainey opened the carriage door again and jumped out. She stood on her tiptoes and quickly gave Dean a light kiss like a dragonfly touching water on his face, while stuffing a bag into Dean’s hand. Then, to Dean’s astonishment, she crawled back into the carriage.
Next, the carriage flew away rapidly with the sound of the coachman’s Whip.
Dean, standing in the original place, holding the bag full of jewelry, subconsciously touched the cheek kissed by the girl. The corners of his mouth could not be suppressed from curving up. He lifted his backpack and, with a faster speed and firmer steps than before, turned and quickly walked towards the city gate — you have to know, the war about to come and those enemies who filled him with hatred left him with not much time to prepare.
Of course, some matters or people also needed to be resolved when he left.
So, after walking out of the city gate, Dean’s already not-slow speed became even faster; it wasn’t an exaggeration to say he was sprinting. And because of this sprint, the chaotic footstep sounds following Dean became clearer and clearer.
“Boy, you can’t run away!”
‘Bat’ Sally looked at the sprinting Dean and naturally thought the other party was trying to escape; after all, after losing the protection of the signboard of the Central Knight Order, how could a small Commoner be his opponent?
Thinking of how the other party relied on the Central Knight Order to ruin several of his big Transactions, ‘Bat’ Sally’s heart felt as if it were bleeding. Then, this figure who was quite famous in some districts of the Capital of Emerald shouted to the three subordinates beside him: “Hurry up, catch him for me! I want to make him wish he were dead!”
Immediately, these three subordinates sped up.
However, no matter how fast their speed was, Dean seemed to always be a bit faster than them. They could only closely follow Dean’s back, chasing non-stop. At first, they moved away from the Capital of Emerald city gate area, then to the main road of the Capital of Emerald, and then to a field.
And when they stopped, they had already stood in a wasteland.
But, luckily, the boy who had been running forward finally couldn’t run anymore. He stood unsteadily, panting heavily.
“Go up for me!”
‘Bat’ Sally, who was also panting heavily, saw that the person he was chasing finally couldn’t run. Overjoyed, he waved to his subordinates beside him, then rushed forward headlong — ‘Bat’ Sally was definitely not a brave and extraordinary existence. Looking at his nickname ‘Bat’ was enough to understand.
But when facing Dean, Sally changed his usual style. Apart from the hatred for Dean, it was more that he understood Dean’s Strength very well. A guy who hadn’t even grown hair, although in the Central Knight Order, had very average Strength. Or rather, the Strength of the entire Central Knight Order was very average.
After all, how could a Knight Order gathered with a bunch of Nobles and Rich people have true power?
Therefore, Sally was very confident in killing this boy who had ruined several of his Transactions. But before that, he wanted to let the other party feel pain!
So, the Dagger in Sally’s hand did not stab towards Dean’s vital part, but aimed at Dean’s arm.
The Dagger carried a wind sound and stabbed towards Dean’s arm. Sally had a vicious smile on his face. He couldn’t wait to hear Dean’s miserable cry.
However, the next moment, a cold flash passed by in a Flash.
Feeling a chill on his neck, Sally touched it subconsciously. Immediately, Blood sprayed out like a spring, dyeing everything in front of him red.
But Dean had dodged one moment earlier. The Blood did not stain his body at all, just like when he acted as an Assassin — although he didn’t have the Strength and speed of that time, Dean, whose experience and skills were still there, did quite well.
After all, what he was facing now was just a street thug boss, far from those Big Shots surrounded by layers of Guard back then.
In fact, even after returning to his eighteen-year-old self, Dean had already forgotten about ‘Bat’ Sally. If the other party hadn’t appeared in front of him, Dean would never have remembered there was such a character — compared to those people he would meet in his future days, the other party was too insignificant.
However, for some people, Sally was obviously a Big Shot—
“You, what did you do? You actually killed Boss Sally!”
One of ‘Bat’ Sally’s subordinates shouted loudly.
The answer given to them was the cold sharpness of the sword blade. After three continuous sounds, Sally’s three subordinates, who looked strong but could only fool ordinary people, followed Sally’s dust.
For this kind of guy who relied on fraud and extortion to survive, causing others to lose their families, Dean would absolutely not be lenient. Whether it was the current him or the previous him, he was like this.
Of course, Dean knew deep down that the other party was only some chess pieces on the surface.
Then who was the mastermind?
Dean sneered in his heart. He was extremely clear about the temper and personality of that person, his former immediate superior, the Vice Regiment Commander of the Central Knight Order.
“It’s not the time to kill him now, but some interest is necessary…”
Thinking of something, Dean narrowed his eyes, with cold light flashing.
