Chapter 4: Night Attack
Chapter 4: Night Attack
When that Attendant returned again, everyone could see the additional handprint on his face and the blood-stained corner of his mouth; however, no one dared to say anything. They all lowered their heads and hurriedly ate their meals, while those who had almost finished eating chose to leave without hesitation.
As mere merchants, how could they dare to criticize a Noble Lord?
When that Attendant came out again, the injury at the corner of his mouth had already been treated. Of course, one should not expect Potions and gauze—an Attendant in a restaurant could not afford such things; it was simply washed with water, appearing less miserable, that was all.
“Sir, your Roasted Meat and Ale!”
The Attendant carried the tray and walked in front of Dean—fully more than half a hind leg of meat was piled neatly on the tray, and the Ale was filled to the brim, the kind that would spill if one was slightly careless; clearly, Dean’s one Copper Coin was worth far more than its cost.
Of course, the effect of that one Copper Coin was still continuing—
“Are you alright? Also… do you have any good suggestions for lodging here? The kind that is clean and safe!”
With the attitude of a stranger, Dean expressed his concern. Then, picking up the Wine Cup, Dean slowed his speech, using the accent of the Three Southern Counties, asking seemingly casually, just like those merchants traveling from the South to the Northland for the first time, arriving at Horn Town.
“Of course, I’m fine—although Horn Town has only one restaurant, it has three inns, however, tonight there will only be one left!” While speaking, the Attendant shrugged indifferently—clearly, he was already accustomed to the things happening at this moment, so much so that he did not want to dwell on such a topic at all, directly answering Dean’s subsequent question.
“Although there are quite a few people, with three inns, it should still be more than enough, right?”
Dean pretended to be surprised and looked around at the dining tables which did not appear very crowded.
“Of course, if that Big Shot upstairs hadn’t booked an entire inn!”
The Attendant answered, clearly trying his best to conceal his hatred, but Dean heard it clearly; and under such hatred, this Attendant began an endless stream of answers similar to venting: “That is a real Big Shot, bringing two Guards, coming from the Capital of Emerald—to welcome a guest from afar…”
Speaking of this, this Attendant’s expression became strange.
“What is it?”
Dean asked at just the right moment.
“That Big Shot’s guest is really somewhat improper, feeling just like a Bandit or a Brigand!” This Attendant lowered his voice and said, simultaneously, secretly pointing to the private room on the far right upstairs, wearing a face of disgust, “Simply like that Big Shot… Fortunately, Captain Mark is a truly dutiful person!”
Although the words were somewhat vague, Dean knew what this Attendant wanted to say, therefore, he cooperated by revealing an equally disgusted expression.
“We should wish ourselves lucky!”
Then, having obtained enough information, and completely confirmed, Dean picked up the Wine Cup and signaled to the Attendant with the attitude a merchant should have.
“That is right, what does this have to do with me? We just need to celebrate our own luck!”
Nodding his head, the Attendant went back to being busy—as for the injury on the corner of his mouth? It was not like his hand or foot was broken; if he wanted to get the day’s wages, he needed to continue working.
And Dean, who seemed to be wolfing down his food, but had actually obtained the most important intelligence, revealed a cold glint in his eyes, however, it was fleeting.
The next moment, Dean shouted: “Give me two more cups of Ale!”
“Yes, Sir!”
The Attendant answered respectfully again—for that extra Copper Coin.
……
And for the sake of the same two Copper Coins, this Attendant supported Dean, who finally collapsed drunk in front of the dining table, into the only inn that could still accommodate guests.
“Wine, wine, give me another cup!”
Along the way, Dean’s mouth still mumbled such words, until the Attendant threw him onto the bed, replaced by continuous loud snoring.
“I hate drunkards, they will vomit those filths all over the bed and the floor, and that smell, it is simply…”
The Innkeeper continuously vented his dissatisfaction.
“Rest assured, although this Sir is not a Big Shot, he is a quite good, generous person!”
The Attendant tossed the two Copper Coins in his hand, making the Innkeeper’s voice of dissatisfaction stop abruptly; however, immediately after, this Innkeeper started muttering again: “Horn Town has only one restaurant, so you always meeting such generous people is simply too unfair!”
“Very fair, because we take risks!” Saying this, the Attendant pointed to his bruised and swollen corner of his mouth, then pointed to the drunk Dean, “Fortunately, there are people like this Sir—as long as the service is thoughtful, these merchants who have just completed a Transaction and are new to this place are not stingy! And, in Horn Town, are such merchants rare?”
After saying that, the Attendant smiled and bowed slightly, then turned and walked out.
The Innkeeper did not make a sound—because, what this Attendant said was very right; in Horn Town, such merchants from the South who had just sold a batch of goods in the Capital of Emerald and were heading to the Northland were really too common, common to the point of being more numerous than the locals; therefore, wanting to earn some money was not difficult, and one could even live quite wealthy.
Maybe I should also open a restaurant?
However, immediately he remembered the bruise on the Attendant’s corner of the mouth, and what had just happened, which had already spread throughout Horn Town, regarding the encounter of that restaurant proprietress; suddenly, the Innkeeper shook his head, closed the room door, and blocked the loud snoring behind the door.
Click!
And just when the room door was completely shut, and the footsteps outside went far away, Dean’s eyes opened.
……
The night gradually deepened, but in the inn on the other side of Horn Town, Ruman Bola from the Capital of Emerald was in a Thunder—
“Bastard, does he take me for an idiot, a fool? Some shady things, daring to ask for a thousand Gold Pulton! Is he insulting me? Is he insulting our Bola Family?”
This Noble Lord, who had been extremely majestic in the restaurant before, cursed while shaking his fat body, quickly walking two circles in the room; and when he stopped his steps again, this Big Shot from the Capital of Emerald had already made a decision, directly raising his hand and calling over one of his two Guards.
“Return to the Capital of Emerald, go to the Central Knight Order to find the Vice Regiment Commander there, Bokorz Bola—he is my nephew!” Ruman instructed, “You just need to say my name, then, let him bring some people here; understand? Remember, real experts!”
“Yes, My Lord!”
After the Guard answered respectfully, he turned and left the room.
With the departure of the Guard, Ruman’s anger did not disappear, on the contrary, it became more intense, which made him look like an angry bull, starting to pace circles in the room again, afterwards, he even bit open the cork of a bottle of Rum in the room and drank it down.
Ruman needed something to quench his anger, otherwise, he definitely thought he would be driven mad by anger—of course, inferior alcohol was not the first choice; young people of the opposite sex were the best choice, but unfortunately, this was Horn Town, not the Capital of Emerald; he did not want to cause any trouble for the Family here.
After all, that Marquis of York was not someone to be trifled with; the other party’s identity as a Noble of a hundred years was undoubtedly much more Noble than their Bola Family.
However, when anger and alcohol were swapped, some wonderful scenes always floated in his mind, especially the slightly attractive restaurant proprietress from before, making this Ruman Bola who held the title of Lord breathe rapidly, to the point that he had to use another mouthful of cold wine to quench such heat—but unfortunately, this mouthful of wine was like pouring oil on the fire, completely igniting the heat in his heart.
“Doc, Doc!”
The Lord shouted with a thick neck, however, there was no answer.
“You bastard, where are you, come out quickly!”
The fantasy in his brain made this Lord not notice something wrong for the first time, instead, he started cursing because of the Guard’s lack of duty.
Until Dean, wrapped entirely in a cloak, appeared in front of him, and placed the Longsword on his neck, this Lord then woke up as if from a dream.
“What are you doing? Do you know who you are facing, I am…”
Snap!
The strike with the sword spine interrupted this Noble Lord’s words, and the two wounds on that face made this Noble Lord look like a rooster strangled by an invisible hand, unable to make a sound, just like that restaurant owner before—as for why using the sword spine to strike resulted in two wounds? This was naturally because this Noble Lord’s cheeks were too fat, so much so that the sword blades on both sides of the sword spine sank in.
However, this also had some benefits.
Without waiting for Dean to speak, this Big Shot from the Capital of Emerald obediently closed his mouth—the more prestigious the Big Shot, the more timid they were when facing their own Blood; although not absolute, it exceeded eighty percent, and clearly, the Ruman Bola in front was not the remaining twenty percent of tough bones, even if he was responsible for the Bola Family’s underground business.
“Ruman Bola My Lord?”
Dean, lowering his voice, made his tone gloomy.
