Chapter 51: Visit (Part 2)
Chapter 51: Visit (Part 2)
Dean stood once again on the narrow platform, his gaze sweeping over the young men before him one by one.
Undoubtedly, as the winners of this competition, these young men were naturally strong and sturdy, and possessed quite good combat experience.
This was what he needed.
Similarly, what he needed was discipline.
This was a long-term training process that took place subtly, but looking at the solemn and quiet appearance of the young men before him, Dean felt a trace of satisfaction.
At the very least, this was a decent start.
“You understand where I am taking you shortly; therefore, you have ten minutes to clean the blood off your faces, put on those leather armors, and carry your longswords… Now, I am giving you ten minutes, remember, only ten minutes. If anyone is late, I think the others won’t mind taking your place! Start!”
Just as Dean’s words fell, the young men before him rushed madly toward the well, began washing themselves, and then rushed toward the main hall—where the leather armors sewn and polished by Theron and his men, and the longswords sharpened and oiled, were neatly placed.
Around the sixth minute, the young men appeared once again before Dean.
Of course, after washing away the blood mist, some bruises still remained on their faces, but they looked much better than before.
Dean nodded in satisfaction and shouted loudly: “Bring your ‘achievements’, mount your horses, and head to Tier Town!”
…
The news that Baron Tier was going to banquet a noble from afar had spread throughout Tier Town by noon, proclaimed by the attendants sent out to deliver invitations, or by the Big Shots who had received invitations and were considered important figures within the Tier Territory.
Even some news about that distant noble had appeared—
Some said he was a Grand Noble from the Capital of Emerald.
Others said he was the son of the Old Marquis of Vauban County.
And some said that Baron Tier had found his own illegitimate son.
…
All sorts of rumors, half-true and half-false, circulated in Tier Town. Compared to those complicated rumors, people were more willing to believe that Baron Tier was welcoming the son of the Old Marquis of Vauban County.
As for the Grand Noble from the Capital of Emerald and Baron Tier’s illegitimate son?
The former was obviously someone Baron Tier could not hope to climb up to.
And the latter? It was well known that after the Baron’s Madam died, Baron Tier had vowed not to marry again, and was peacefully raising his son and daughter.
In this regard, the Subjects of Tier Town still admired their Lord very much. After all, in their experience, apart from their own Lord, which noble was not surrounded by women on both sides?
Even the rumored benevolent Marquis Vauban had a total of three wives, one after another, as well as numerous mistresses, and unknown underground mistresses.
Creak!
Amidst the slightly harsh sound of the door opening, a Guard of the Baron walked into ‘Snow Bear’s Home’. The Guard’s attire and the longsword at his waist caused the lively atmosphere in the hall, where people were discussing, to instantly quiet down.
This Guard obviously did not pay attention to those merchants who remained in Tier Town; he walked straight toward the innkeeper.
“Boss Huck, this is an invitation from Lord Baron for you!”
The Guard respectfully presented the Baron’s invitation with both hands to the tall, one-armed man before him.
There were fewer than ten invitations, which sufficiently demonstrated the preciousness of this invitation. The fact that this man before him could obtain one naturally showed his extraordinary nature.
Of course, more importantly, he had once served as his Instructor.
Huck still retained his dignity.
“Hmm, I will attend on time!”
Huck took the invitation and nodded.
After the Guard signaled, he respectfully left the inn.
As the Guard left, some locals immediately started jeering—
“The mighty Huck!”
“A toast to our Huck!”
…
Of course, those who jeered were only the locals. The foreign merchants, after seeing that invitation, looked at Huck with a different gaze. Especially those few Southern merchants who were still thinking about how to deal with Huck, their faces changed color repeatedly at this moment.
Clearly, a person who could establish a relationship with the local Lord was not someone they could afford to provoke.
Even if the other party looked like nothing more than a short-tempered innkeeper, it was the same.
However, some people with evil intentions were different—the way they looked at Huck was as if they were looking at the most delicious food.
In fact, there were absolutely no small number of such people.
They followed the Baron’s Guard, watching where those invitations were delivered, and then silently left. Only after confirming all the guests did they gather together once again.
In the basement of a certain house in Tier Town, in a pitch-black environment without any lights, a total of six people gathered there, discussing in low voices—
“Have all the mission targets been confirmed?”
A low voice asked.
“They have all been confirmed!”
The several Thieves responsible for tracking answered one by one, and added: “Except for that Huck, they are all very easy targets to handle!”
“Very good, we are going to kill everyone Baron Tier invited! Let him understand that our Thieves Guild in the Tier Territory is not to be trifled with!”
The former nodded his head, exceptionally satisfied with his subordinates’ work, and then that voice filled with malice rang out.
“That little noble is tricky, he will bring a squad of Militia!”
One of the previous voices suddenly mentioned.
“They are just a few young men of hunter origin and an arrogant guy, there is no need to worry at all. We need to worry more about that guy Huck—if not for his bad luck, he would already be a Knight by now, we cannot underestimate him! However, we will assassinate that little noble first, cause chaos in the town, and then kill Huck and the others—caught off guard, they will undoubtedly die!”
That low voice was clearly very familiar with some people in Tier Town, at least he was exceptionally familiar with the owner of ‘Snow Bear’s Home’.
Therefore, he had prepared a plan to kill Huck, a plan that seemed perfect in his eyes.
As for that little noble?
Just as he said, in his eyes, the other party was merely an arrogant guy.
…
Although it was only afternoon, and there was still some time before evening, Dean had already set out with his two Militia Captains and his subordinates.
Aside from showing respect to Baron Tier, it was naturally because of other matters—
“Regiment Commander, why are we putting these heads in sacks?”
Theron asked in puzzlement.
“Because, we need to prepare a surprise!”
Dean answered with a soft laugh, his eyes slightly narrowed.
“But Lord Baron already knows…”
Theron said instinctively, but before he could finish, this young man who possessed ‘Knight potential’ realized something was wrong—not actual traces or phenomena, but merely a clue in Dean’s words that instinctively made him feel something bad was about to happen.
And Ike, who was standing to the side, subconsciously looked around.
Clearly, compared to his friend, this skinny Militia Captain possessed a sharper mind.
“Does someone want to harm us?”
Theron looked at his friend’s appearance and immediately reacted as well.
“Hmm, earlier some guys were spying on us—they should be Thieves!” Dean nodded and pointed in the direction where traces of Thieves had previously existed.
However, no matter how the two Militia Captains looked, they could not see anything.
This was natural; although the two were of hunter origin, compared to truly trained Thieves, they were still far behind—if Dean had not once acted as an Assassin and received considerable training, he would not have noticed anything amiss.
And, after undergoing such training, as long as your results were qualified, you would develop the habit of always scanning those places easiest to hide and form assassination positions at the first moment.
Therefore, he easily discovered that something was wrong.
And he quickly made a relatively accurate definition of the other party’s identity and actions—after all, the way Thieves moved could not be concealed, and recently only a few things had happened in Tier Town, and only two of them could be related to Thieves.
One was that a Thief had died, and the other was the major purge of Thieves in Tier Town.
And these two things, regardless of which one, were things the local Thieves Guild would not allow.
“Clearly, our Lord Baron’s clearing operations these past few days, although they did not achieve a breakthrough result, have thoroughly enraged these guys walking in the dark corners—they want to use this banquet to deal a fatal blow to the host!”
Dean pursed his lips, slightly sighing in admiration at the ruthlessness and audacity of the person in charge of the Thieves Guild in the Tier Territory.
