Chapter 95: Secret (Part 1)
Chapter 95: Secret (Part 1)
After Dean made the request to interrogate, no one present objected to Dean’s request—Dean’s identity and the process of personally capturing the prisoner meant that even the young lady from the Baron’s family could not raise any objection.
Although from her appearance, she seemed to want to give Dean a hard time, however, when she saw the bloody Longsword in Dean’s hand, and the dozens of corpses lying around, this young lady finally switched to a normal mode, and began helping Huck clean up the Battlefield and count the losses.
And Dean watched all of this. Dean shrugged, carried the captive, and walked deep into the woods beside him—whether it was the methods he was about to use, or the things the other party might say, clearly, they were not for his subordinates or those Baron Guards to know.
As for that young lady from the Baron’s family?
From her current performance, the other party was undoubtedly very ‘sensible.’
Walking deep into the woods beside him, about three hundred feet later, Dean stopped, threw the captive on an open ground, and then carefully searched the other party’s pockets and inner lining—
“Woo, woo…”
The captive, whose mouth was gagged, made indistinct sounds from his mouth, and twisted his body; however, after Dean punched the other party in the abdomen without mercy, the other party became completely quiet.
Clearly, Dean showed his own attitude.
The attitude that if you don’t cooperate, you will be killed.
Undoubtedly, this Thief clearly understood Dean’s attitude, and then, he chose to cooperate.
Do not mistakenly think that all captives are tough guys.
Even some Knights who behaved ‘bravely’ would surrender after becoming captives, let alone a Thief who walked in the shadows himself.
Several coins were Dean’s final harvest.
Besides that, there was only the Dagger and Hand Crossbow that had already been taken by Dean; apart from these, Dean found nothing else—he had checked the inner lining and the soles of the shoes, but found nothing.
“I think you can tell me some things I want to know!”
Tearing off the rag in the other party’s mouth, Dean prepared to start with the person himself.
“Please let this poor man go, I don’t know anything… Ah!”
The other party’s plea for mercy had just begun when it was interrupted by a scream. Dean held a Dagger and cut off the little finger of the other party’s remaining right hand.
“I think you should know something now!”
While speaking, Dean picked up the other party’s ring finger, and the Dagger began to gently rub back and forth on it. That gentle feeling was like stroking a lover’s skin.
However, facing such actions, this Thief was stiff all over—the other party should be a Knight, this was mentioned in the information this Knight had received before, and he should be a Knight from a fallen great Family; although he retained doubts about this.
However, now, this Mr. Thief was incredibly certain.
Because, a Knight of Commoner origin could never have such ruthlessness.
Only Knights from great Families could behave like ‘two-faced’ people—maintaining their ‘just’ side when facing their own people, but being ‘ruthless’ executioners when facing enemies.
“Wait, wait!”
Just as the cold blade was about to cut flesh again, this Mr. Thief said loudly.
“Very good, start with your origin!”
Dean said—going straight to the center of the problem at the start was clearly not a good decision, and, more importantly, he could now confirm the other party’s identity.
“I am from the Snowplains Dense Forest… Ah!”
The other party’s words were not finished yet when he let out another scream.
“Listen, don’t think I don’t know your identity… Mr. Thief!”
Dean pinched the other party’s severed ring finger, held it before his eyes as if admiring a work of art, and then, Dean’s gaze looked at his captive.
He saw a trace of pallor on the other party’s face.
It was because of surprise, and also because of pain, but mostly because of fear.
The unknown is always fearful.
It was just like how the other party could not know at all where exactly he had revealed his tracks; he thought he had hidden everything about being a Thief.
As for that Hand Crossbow?
It was not unused among robbers and bandits.
In fact, if not for lack of funds and various maintenance issues, robbers and bandits would not mind everyone having a Hand Crossbow.
After all, this was the most useful and intuitive item for improving Strength.
“Sir, I…”
The Thief’s voice was vague; clearly, he did not want to reveal everything about himself, and he still wanted to try if he could bluff his way through.
But Dean did not give him such a chance—
“Remember, you now have only one chance!”
Dean’s Dagger was pressed against the other party’s chest.
Dean’s indifferent eyes and expression were undoubtedly telling his captive that he was not joking, this was real; similarly, this Mr. Thief understood such an expression once again.
“Okay, okay, I can tell you everything… but, you must swear, swear in your own name, to let me go!”
The captive gave up resisting but raised his own request.
“I, Dean Ken, swear that if the person before me tells me everything I want to know, then, I will certainly let him go!”
Dean swore without hesitation.
As for using a fake name?
Dean did not need to do that yet; after all, when the other party carried out this attack, they would definitely have scouted the entire convoy.
Then, obtaining his information was to be expected.
As the Regiment Commander of the Ferrchelen Knight Order, Dean believed that his simple information had started to appear in the hands of the high-level members of some shady organizations around him.
This did not mean that these organizations wanted to deal with him.
It was just some habits.
These organizations were used to taking precautions.
Regarding this, Dean expressed considerable agreement, because, he was also used to this.
“Thank you for being honest, Regiment Commander Dean Ken!”
After the captive heard such an oath, he clearly breathed a sigh of relief—an oath on a name was definitely not a joke, but had a real effect.
Once violated, one would certainly be sanctioned—
That kind of ‘Violator’ aura could not be hidden at all in the sight of the Divine Church’s priests; and such a person would be hunted by the Divine Church and spurned by various countries.
Therefore, to make Dean fulfill his oath, the captive had to say everything Dean wanted to know.
“Did you come for Miss Lily?”
“Yes!”
“To exchange for Lamoz?”
“Yes!”
“What secret does Lamoz have?”
“He knows the whereabouts of a special weapon… a very special weapon—it can quickly increase a person’s Strength, and help ordinary people have the chance to become Knights! But, Lamoz wanted to keep this weapon for himself; after we all paid the corresponding price, he wanted to betray us! Of course, he was captured by you, and, told you some things—but, you have to believe me, what he told you is just the tip of the iceberg!”
Although the captive was surprised by what Dean knew, thinking of the previous interrogation, clearly, he thought Dean had extracted some things from Lamoz’s mouth; after all, facing the other party’s interrogation, he didn’t hold up either, did he?
Plus, Dean had captured Lamoz before, so such a thing immediately became logical in the eyes of this Mr. Robber.
“Oh, so, you can tell me more?”
Dean squinted his eyes and looked at the other party—from the other party’s words, he immediately determined that the special weapon the other party mentioned was the [Demon Blood Dagger] he had obtained.
Although there was more than one weapon that could quickly increase a person’s strength, in the Tier Territory, the one that Lamoz could come into contact with was only the [Demon Blood Dagger] in the hands of that Tax Officer—the collusion and termination of cooperation between the two parties, from the current perspective, was clearly also because of the [Demon Blood Dagger].
“Of course! It is a Dagger…”
“I know, and it is a uniquely shaped Dagger, it should have been in the hands of the Tax Officer of the Tier Territory initially.”
The captive immediately nodded repeatedly, but his words were interrupted by Dean once again.
“Did Lamoz tell you that? Hmm… alright, that is not considered a lie—in fact, this Dagger should be one of the collections of the Tier Baron Family, but was obtained by Mold by chance, and then, Lamoz discovered a clue… he has spent thirty years of effort on this Dagger, so it is only right that a clue was discovered!”
The captive finally said some things Dean did not know.
“Then, Baron Tier’s uncle died because of this Dagger initially?”
Dean thought of some things and asked.
“Yes, Lamoz was almost crazy for this Dagger; however, that is also to be expected, after all, this Dagger is just the beginning; if the other few are collected, even a Gold-rank powerhouse would not be looked down upon by the holder.”
The captive nodded and said.
“The other few?”
A gleam of light flashed in Dean’s eyes.
“Yes, the other few; there are as many as seven of these special weapons in total, I think Lamoz certainly didn’t tell you this, did he?”
A trace of smugness appeared on the captive’s face—undoubtedly, he was very sure about this matter.
After all, Lamoz had deceived others like this more than once.
