Chapter 5: The Awakening Threshold!

“Pant, pant…”

Heart-wrenching, low growls echoed endlessly through the steel corridor leading to the Experiment Area. Dragging the unconscious Chen Chong, four guards, two in front and two behind, quickly headed toward the Experiment Area.

Along the way, patrolling guards who saw this procession could not help but joke.

“Hey, Zeke, this kid’s screaming so miserably, what did you guys do to him?”

“Is the kid having an epileptic fit? You four better be careful you don’t get infected.”

The hall was bright and spacious. An experiment table stood in the exact center, with several instruments and devices of unknown function placed beside it. Around them, over a dozen white researchers in uniforms were busily working among rows of equipment, seemingly making preparations. When Chen Chong was brought in, his growls made them look up coldly for a moment before they lost interest, clearly accustomed to such sights.

Heading straight for the experiment table in the center, with great effort, they finally managed to secure Chen Chong’s hands and feet tightly with leather straps. The four guards wiped their sweat, cursed inwardly, turned around, and said respectfully to Katherine behind them,

“No need!”

Katherine had already focused all her attention on Chen Chong. She waved her hand impatiently.

“I will call the guards at the door if needed. Now go do what you should be doing!”

Katherine’s heart stirred. She quickly walked to the instruments in her high heels, her azure blue eyes narrowing slightly. She then ordered,

In truth, Katherine was also puzzled. Chen Chong, this tenacious experiment subject, was one of her key focuses. However, it had only been three days since Chen Chong’s last experiment, and the routine physical examination after the experiment had not detected any hidden problems lingering within him. She did not understand what exactly had gone wrong with Chen Chong.

If a healthy adult’s Life Field Intensity fluctuated between 1 and 2 units, then an Awakener’s Life Field Intensity was around 10 units! That was the commonly known Awakener Threshold!

However, a Life Field Intensity several times that of an ordinary person did not mean their physical fitness or strength was several times greater. It referred more to a person’s potential, growth capacity, and vitality. For instance, fierce predators like lions and tigers had a Life Field Intensity between 3 and 4 units. Yet any ordinary person with simple training, holding a firearm, could kill these beasts whose Life Field was stronger than their own.

Now, all the strange signs Chen Chong was displaying clearly indicated that this ordinary yellow-skinned man, who had never taken any Gene Potion, was undergoing a peculiar awakening process and was about to become an Awakener!
