Chapter 87: Mo Yanqiu's Memories (Part 1)
“How is the preparation going?” Mo Yanqiu asked the person in charge of the blockade operation as she stepped off the plane.
“No problem, boss. We have located the position of that base, but…” The leader of the Stellar Group displayed a hint of difficulty on his face.
“What’s wrong?” Mo Yanqiu inquired.
“That base is set within the mountain cliff, and the entrance is too narrow for the mechs to enter,” the leader informed Mo Yanqiu about the details of the area.
“I see.” Mo Yanqiu pondered for a moment before saying, “Organise an elite team. I will lead the way deep inside.”
“Boss, it’s too dangerous. Shouldn’t we wait for the other competitors to arrive?”
“Not appropriate. I have a rough idea of their capabilities. We must reach the demon’s head before them.” Mo Yanqiu shook her head, rejecting the seemingly tempting but full of unknown variables plan.
“You should go and organise…”
“No need, Miss Mo.”
Upon hearing this voice, Mo Yanqiu furrowed her brows and turned her head coldly to look at the person who had arrived—it was Yi Yi. Behind her were more than a dozen fully armed soldiers.
“Yi Yi, what are you doing here?” Mo Yanqiu stared at her intently.
“Nothing much, just came to discuss a cooperation topic,” Yi Yi revealed a fake smile.
“Cooperation? What kind of cooperation?” Mo Yanqiu raised an eyebrow.
“It’s simple. My people and I will enter with you. Then, I’ll take mine, and you take yours. Everyone gets what they need. How about that?” Yi Yi proposed.
“With the abilities of the Viper, there shouldn’t be any place where I need to rely on you, right?” Mo Yanqiu said, her tone revealing a hint of scepticism.
“I can’t disclose the reasons. All I can say is that the Viper has previously conducted a disastrous exploration of this place and failed. But now, entering together with you, we will definitely succeed.” Yi Yi revealed a mysterious smile.
“… Fine, let’s go in.” Mo Yanqiu glared at Yi Yi fiercely but ultimately gave in.
“We have prepared your equipment, Miss Mo. Please.”
The path to the entrance of the base was a disguised cave. At this moment, the Stellar Group had set up a defensive line outside the cave, with large-caliber machine guns and weapons of mass destruction aimed directly at the entrance. Mo Yanqiu adjusted her bulletproof plate and entered together with the members of the Viper.
“According to our analysis, this relic is only 25 years old,” Yi Yi introduced to Mo Yanqiu as they walked. “Be careful. These things have dug holes up there, and they can easily attack us from above.”
“What things?” Mo Yanqiu curiously asked.
“You’ll see,” Yi Yi didn’t answer and simply said so.
Suddenly, a soldier from the Viper pulled the trigger towards a hole above, but it was already too late.
A dark shadow rushed into Mo Yanqiu’s field of vision, accompanied by the warm splatter of blood. The soldier was torn in half by sharp claws. Then, the rest of the team opened fire on the dark shadow, and dark red blood splattered.
Finally, the dark shadow became motionless. It was only then that Mo Yanqiu could clearly see the appearance of the creature, causing her to take a cold breath.
It was a 1.4-meter-tall, thin creature with sharp, elongated claws; a long tail with a sharp bone spike at the end, and four long and pointed canine teeth. Its entire body was smooth and had a shallow pink colour. Its blurry eyes indicated that this creature had once lived in a well-lit area. Its long tongue was covered in spikes.
Just by looking at it, Mo Yanqiu felt a chill down her spine.
“This is definitely not a creature from Earth.” Mo Yanqiu adjusted her breath.
“Let’s continue moving forward. This thing has some intelligence. Be careful,” Yi Yi casually said. “By the way, collect a sample of its genetic material.”
“Understood.” Immediately, a soldier crouched in front of the creature, holding an injector connected to a wire, and injected a liquid into the creature’s neck. The liquid was drawn into the injector. Then, Yi Yi’s wristwatch lit up. She calmly glanced at it, then widened her eyes in astonishment.
“What’s wrong?” Curious about Yi Yi’s expression, Mo Yanqiu asked.
“These are human genes.” Yi Yi quickly regained her composure.
“Oh, I mean… wait a minute. These are human genes? So, you’re saying—”
“These creatures were once human. Judging by their height, they were probably adolescents,” Yi Yi said as she looked at the creature’s body.
“…” Mo Yanqiu’s face twitched, and her mouth felt dry.
Suddenly, her whole body went weak, and she wanted to find something to lean on. So she leaned against the nearby wall.
“Crumble!”
“Mo Yanqiu!”
At that moment, the wall Mo Yanqiu was leaning on suddenly collapsed, revealing a pit. Without steadying herself, Mo Yanqiu fell directly into it.
“…,” Yi Yi and the soldiers of the Viper Squad exchanged glances.
“Chief, what should we do?” a soldier asked.
“Hiss…” Yi Yi fell silent for a moment, then pointed ahead.
“Let’s keep going.”
“But what about Miss Mo—”
“She has her own fate. A ‘Chosen One’ won’t die so easily.”
