Chapter 88: Mo Yanqiu's Memories (Part 2)

The cave was deep, and Mo Yanqiu felt herself sliding downward continuously. She didn’t know how long she had been sliding when she finally rolled into a spacious area. She shook her slightly dizzy head and turned on the tactical headlamp on her helmet, illuminating a small beam of light in front of her.

“Yi Yi, can you hear me?” Mo Yanqiu attempted to contact Yi Yi and the others using the radio, but all she heard in her ears was static noise, with nothing else.

Damn it!

Mo Yanqiu cursed inwardly and carefully turned her head to look at the passage she came from. She couldn’t climb back up, so she had no choice but to move forward on her own.

With that thought in mind, Mo Yanqiu turned her head to face the unknown darkness ahead, swallowed a gulp of saliva, and raised her gun as she proceeded forward.

The air was damp, carrying a faint smell of blood. The only sounds she could hear were the footsteps, and her own heartbeat. Various factors weighed on Mo Yanqiu’s nerves, tormenting her sanity.

“Crackle.”

Suddenly, she heard the sound of stones shifting beside her. Almost instantly, Mo Yanqiu turned her body and pulled the trigger, but the bullet only grazed a fleeting shadow.

Oh no!

Mo Yanqiu was greatly alarmed. Instinctively, she positioned the gun horizontally in front of her chest. At that moment, the attacker lunged at Mo Yanqiu from above, effortlessly tearing her assault rifle in half with its sharp claws.

Mo Yanqiu delivered a headbutt to the demon’s head, then swiftly drew her tactical knife and stabbed upward, destroying its brainstem through its lower jaw.

Sensing the demon’s limp body, Mo Yanqiu, feeling uneasy, delivered a few more slashes before pushing the creature’s corpse away. She removed her bulletproof helmet, which had cracked from the demon’s teeth, causing a cold sweat to break out on her back.

Holding the tactical knife in one hand and the pistol in the other, she relied on the faint beam of her pistol-mounted tactical flashlight as she continued forward.

“These demons were once human, and judging by their height, they were probably underage,” Yi Yi’s words echoed in Mo Yanqiu’s mind. Her inner turmoil grew, but she suppressed her restlessness.

Mo Yanqiu took a deep breath and continued moving forward. It didn’t take long before she encountered the first man-made object.

It was a mini mech among a pile of bones.

Why call it “mini”? Because compared to a regular mech, this one was incredibly small. It was so compact that a person of normal size couldn’t fit inside the cockpit. The mech’s body was dilapidated, showing clear signs of assembly. It was more like a collection of these scraps put together. The cockpit hatch was closed, obscuring the view of what was inside.

Encountering such a creation in this place undoubtedly heightened Mo Yanqiu’s vigilance. She cautiously approached the mini mech.

It seemed that this mech hadn’t been here for long.

Several rocks were pressing on it, and there was a large hole on top, as if it had fallen from above.

A beam of light shone diagonally from above, illuminating the piled white bones on the ground, exuding an unknown blood-red horror.

Stepping on the scattered white bones and hearing the sound of fractured skeletons made Mo Yanqiu’s hair stand on end. Most of these bones belonged to humans, but Mo Yanqiu couldn’t dwell on what might have happened here anymore.

After some effort, she managed to push away the rocks that were weighing down the cockpit door of the mech. This mech didn’t have an emergency valve that could be opened from the outside. Fortunately, the cockpit cover couldn’t close properly, and with a little force, Mo Yanqiu opened the mech’s cockpit. At that moment, she froze.

There was someone inside the mech.

It was a little girl who appeared to be around 11 or 12 years old. She had delicate features and messy, uneven black hair. A trickle of blood ran down from her forehead, and her breathing was weak. Her right hand tightly gripped a silver-white metal rectangular object. She wore a dirty jumpsuit and had her eyes tightly shut.

Mo Yanqiu quickly regained her composure. She first scanned the girl’s body with her left eye and found that there were no major injuries. Then, Mo Yanqiu carefully bandaged the wound on the girl’s forehead and placed an ammonia capsule under her nose. She had many questions to ask her.

After a while, the girl slowly regained consciousness.
