Chapter 89: Mo Yanqiu's Memories (3)

After a while, the girl slowly regained consciousness. She looked at Mo Yanqiu’s face, paused momentarily, and then suddenly panicked.

“Shh, don’t be afraid, child. I mean no harm,” Mo Yanqiu comforted in a soft voice.

Perhaps Mo Yanqiu’s reassurance had an effect, as the girl gradually calmed down, but she still huddled in fear, looking at Mo Yanqiu.

Although Mo Yanqiu knew that her villainous appearance could be intimidating, she tried her best to smile gently and said, “Don’t be scared, child. What’s your name?”

“… Lin Yahan,” the little girl timidly replied.

“Alright, Lin Yahan. I’m called Mo Yanqiu,” Mo Yanqiu said with a smile. “I’m going to leave this place. Would you like to come with me?”

“Um,” the little girl pondered for a moment and nodded. Mo Yanqiu carefully carried her out of the mech.

“Did you make this mech yourself?” Mo Yanqiu asked.

Lin Yahan nodded gently.

“That’s impressive,” Mo Yanqiu praised her before stepping on the mech and climbing through the above hole. What caught her eye was a brightly lit laboratory.

The laboratory lights were still on, but it was in a mess. Various instruments and equipment were scattered on the ground. Mo Yanqiu held Lin Yahan carefully and observed. Finally, she found something that might be useful—a computer. Mo Yanqiu connected it to the power and pressed the startup button, fortunate that it still functioned.

Inside the computer was a row of files named “Experimental Data.” Mo Yanqiu opened one of them, which contained a video document and a document file.

Mo Yanqiu opened the video.

“Ah–”

Suddenly, a chilling scream of a child echoed, and Mo Yanqiu quickly covered Lin Yahan’s ears and held her tightly, shielding her from seeing. Then, a cold, middle-aged male voice sounded.

“20%.”

“25%.”

“35%.”

As the values in the man’s voice increased, the child’s screams grew louder. Slowly, the child ceased making any sound, and stopped even struggling. Then, the voice of an assistant came from the side, “Heart rate is zero, vital signs disappearing.”

“Remove it and bring in the next specimen.”

The video ended there. Mo Yanqiu felt a chill down her spine, and even breathing became difficult. Suddenly, she seemed to realise something and quickly unplugged the sound, looking around to see if any demon appeared. Then, she frantically opened each document in the folder.

“Sample 1400.

Dose administered: 35%

Experimental result: Failure.”

“Sample 1401.

Dose administered: 21%

Experimental result: Failure.”

“Sample 1402.

Dose administered…”

Each report had a photo of the so-called “sample,” and without exception, they were all children!

“The family once had a base in the western region, but now that base is occupied by a group of demon.”

The words of the family head echoed in Mo Yanqiu’s ears. The previously benevolent tone now sounded chilling and terrifying.

“Are you… still human?” Mo Yanqiu gritted her teeth and squeezed out those words through clenched jaws, and tightened her fist. At that moment, a gunshot reached her ears.

“The Serpent’s Fang!” She recognized that gunshot. It was the sound of the standard rifle used by the Stellar Group and the Serpent’s Fang. She quickly took Lin Yahan’s hand and cautiously walked toward the direction of the gunshot.

The path was in complete disarray, and this laboratory had suffered dreadful destruction. Mo Yanqiu held a handgun in her right hand and held onto Lin Yahan with her left. Then, she saw a corpse.

It was the body of a Serpent’s Fang soldier, once fully armed but now reduced to bones. Mo Yanqiu picked up the assault rifle from the body and checked the ammunition. She then holstered her handgun.

“Stay close to… me, okay?”

“Okay.” Lin Yahan nodded gently.

As Mo Yanqiu and Lin Yahan advanced, the gunshots grew more intense, and the ground was littered with the bodies of both demons and Serpent’s Fang soldiers turned into white bones. Finally, Mo Yanqiu reached her destination.

It was a massive laboratory, where Serpent’s Fang soldiers were firing at a colossal demon that stood at least four metres tall. The demon had green skin oozing with disgusting slime, but the bullets raining upon it seemed to have no effect at all.

At that moment, a slender figure suddenly darted out from the shadows, wielding a hunting knife and thrusting it forward. However, with a single swing of its arm, the demon struck her, sending her flying and shattering the thick glass of the laboratory. She landed in front of Mo Yanqiu.

“Ah… still alive,” Yiyi spat out some blood, then looked at Mo Yanqiu.

“What’s going on?”

“Intelligence failure. Who would’ve known there was such a thing here? I should have brought heavier weapons… I can’t move for the time being. If we don’t deal with this thing, we’re all going to die,” Yi Yi said, enduring the intense pain.

“I understand. I’ll take care of it,” Mo Yanqiu said, about to step forward, but Iyi stopped her.

“Wait, guns won’t work against it. Use this.” Yi Yi handed Mo Yanqiu a hunting knife with a long blade and intricate patterns. “Inject this as well. It will greatly enhance your physical abilities, but at the cost of reducing your lifespan. However, with your body, all you need is to rest in bed for a while.” Then she handed Mo Yanqiu a vial of syringe.

“Keep an eye on this child for me,” Mo Yanqiu said, leaving Lin Yahan behind obediently. She walked into the laboratory, holding the hunting knife in one hand and injecting the serum into her neck with the other.

Suddenly, a strange sensation coursed through Mo Yanqiu’s body. She felt her mind clear, and her body became agile and powerful. She watched the enormous demon approaching and tightened her grip on the hunting knife before charging towards it.

“Roar!”

The demon naturally noticed Mo Yanqiu and let out an angry roar as it swung a fist towards her. Mo Yanqiu dodged it with a smooth slide, and as she slid behind the demon, she used the momentum to stand up and swiftly stab the demon’s back, severing its spine.

The gigantic body of the demon crashed to the ground. Mo Yanqiu immediately rushed forward, but the demon quickly flipped over, swiping a palm towards her. Mo Yanqiu couldn’t dodge in time and could only extend her left arm to block.

“Bang!”

Mo Yanqiu was sent flying by the palm strike, rolling on the ground for a few rounds. She struggled to stand up, her left arm hanging weakly, her forehead bruised, blood streaming down her face.

She took a few breaths, the intense pain almost causing her to faint, but she persevered. She watched as the demon waved its arm and crawled towards her.

Suddenly, Yi Yi appeared behind the demon and shouted, “The knife!”

Hearing the words, Mo Yanqiu understood and directly threw the knife in her hand. Yi Yi leaped up, catching the hunting knife and pouncing on the demon’s back. At the critical moment, she stabbed the its neck, destroying its brainstem.

Seeing the motionless demon , Mo Yanqiu let out a sigh of relief and fell to her knees, feeling drained. Yi Yi and the remaining Serpent’s Fang soldiers approached and said, “Thanks to you, Miss Mo.”

“Can I take this guy’s head?” Mo Yanqiu asked, forcing a smile.

“Of course,” Yi Yi smiled in response.

“Boss…”

“It’s okay, I’m here,” Mo Yanqiu hugged Luo Xiaoyou and gently kissed her.

“By the way, Xiaoyou, can I bring a child with me?”

“You mean the child you saved? But she’s from the base. What if the family finds out…?”

“Don’t worry, I’m confident,” Mo Yanqiu smiled tenderly.

As for the confidence…

Of course, it lies with her “intimate” partner, Serpent’s Fang.
