Chapter 164 – 1930 Interval Summer (1)

Summer vacation begins for my fifth-grade year.

I only went to school about half the time, but summer vacation is still summer vacation.

As for the world, the waves of the Great Depression were now fully crashing onto Japan, and it had come to be called the “Showa Depression.”

And one of the major factors behind the Depression, the Smoot–Hawley Tariff Act, had been enacted in America in June.
This thing was a law designed to create an enormous tariff barrier, and afterward the great powers would get locked into cycles of retaliation, eventually forming block economies.

Furthermore, Germany’s economy, which had been relying on American investment, was dying. And from there, the summoning ritual of the little-mustached Führer would begin in earnest.

I would have liked to do something about it, but nothing could be done.
