Chapter 60.2

Just as they stepped into the game, a voice filled with surprise echoed through the group audio.

“Wind! Oh my god, it’s really Wind!”

A woman’s melodious voice rang through the audio, carrying a trace of joy. Although Xue Lan had never encountered such a situation before, given Wen Yan’s nature, he deemed it somewhat typical.

He busied himself configuring his initial setup, awaiting the official commencement of the game.

Wen Yan did not utter a sound. The woman continued to speak. “I’ll make sure to heal you properly later!”

The game started, and Xue Lan immediately went to clear up the area.

When playing duo with Wen Yan, he didn’t assume the role of protecting the medic. Instead, they advanced together, delving into the enemy territory side by side.

The female medic followed behind them. Still excited, she said, “Wind God, I’ve always really liked you. It’s also because of you that I started playing this game!”

Wen Yan persisted, remaining silent.

“Lady, Yan God probably doesn’t turn on his mic.” Observing the woman’s extended conversation, the other teammate attempted to intervene and mediate the situation.

Xue Lan recalled the original storyline where the former “Xue Lan” would squat on his heels daily, eagerly anticipating news of Wen Yan starting the ranked match, attempting to intercept him. Yet, not once did Wen Yan pay any heed to those attempts.

But “Xue Lan” embodied this behavior: persistently trailing behind Wen Yan, tending to his healing needs, and engaging in communication, be it through typing or promptly activating the mic for a chat, even when Wen Yan remained silent.

Certainly, someone would point out that Wen Yan didn’t activate the mic or something along those lines. However, Xue Lan was privy to the fact that Wen Yan actually had a habit of muting the group audio.

Facing teammates with such tendencies could indeed pose challenges. However, disabling the group audio meant missing vital cues from teammates during the game. These cues might be manageable in lower-tier matches, where signals or typing could suffice. Yet, in high-stakes ranked matches where every moment counted, overlooking a cue could swiftly become the decisive factor between victory and defeat.

Despite the reminder from the teammate, this female medic appeared persistent, akin to the past “Xue Lan.”

Ridden with a guilty conscience, Xue Lan hesitated to intervene, yet they were edging closer to the map’s boundary. Amidst the constant buzz in his ears, he faintly caught several peculiar rustling sounds of leaves in the distance.

The adversaries appeared to be arriving ahead of them, possibly even setting up an ambush.

LGW-Exist: Shh.

Xue Lan had intended to listen attentively to the other party’s movements in silence. However, unexpectedly, the female medic didn’t stay quiet upon seeing his text. Instead, she blabbered, “Who’s this? Isn’t this the famous ‘baby’ from the big live streams? Why the distant act after joining the pros? Have you forgotten how you used to stick to Wind like glue? I’ve never seen someone so double-faced.”

Xue Lan’s heart tightened. He had refrained from engaging with the woman precisely because of this. After all, upon reviewing the past, “Xue Lan” had indeed pulled off a number of vexing actions.

Hence, despite holding the title of the team owner’s daughter, this relentless pursuit over the years hadn’t even granted him a position as a good friend of Wen Yan.

These sorts of provocations… “He” had simply executed far too many of them.

In this moment, the “victim” of many years still stood by his side. Xue Lan found himself even more awkward, unsure of how to respond.

LGW-Exist: Someone’s here.

“We haven’t even reached the corner; how could there be someone? What’s the harm in me saying a few words while we roam the map? Are you trying to claim Wind God for yourself?

“Remember the times during the live stream when you cornered Wind? You clung to him like glue then. Why didn’t you know when to stop talking back then? And now you’re claiming there’s someone?

“Let’s not forget your infamous voice, known for being so grating across the internet. A woman sounding like a man, and you shamelessly claimed your voice was unique. Who would want to hear you speak like that? Isn’t this a prime example of ‘a perfectly good girl, why does she have to talk?’”

Xue Lan was at his last straw. He turned on his mic. “I was…”

“Three individuals ahead, positioned to the left in the underbrush.”

Wen Yan’s voice suddenly echoed through the group audio. Xue Lan interrupted and promptly readied his rifle upon receiving the instruction. In unison with Wen Yan, they swiftly dashed to seek nearby cover, aiming their weapons at the trio encircling a massive tree in the underbrush.

Xue Lan swiftly opted to prime a grenade and hurled it toward the underbrush. True to his decision, the next second saw the underbrush violently quiver.

In sync, Wen Yan and Xue Lan seized the opportunity. Amidst the trembling underbrush, they swiftly eliminated the three adversaries with a barrage of bullets.

Soon after that, Wen Yan gave a signal to attack.

At this moment, the combat medic, realizing the confrontation had commenced, muted her mic, and the entire team advanced together toward the enemy’s camp.

Amidst the back-and-forth, as opponents hesitated, waiting for teammates to revive, both sides engaged in three intense, large-scale team battles. Ultimately, they succeeded in completely eliminating the opposing team.

Xue Lan sighed in relief. The earlier medic turned on her mic again.

“Wind God, so you didn’t turn off the group audio! I’ve always liked you and started playing because of you. Can I add you as a friend?

“There are so few medics now. Let’s play together when you’re free. I promise not to let you down. I’m available any time! Also, Wind God, what’s your ideal type of girl? Me and my friend are very curious. No matter your preference, I can learn!”

With the game concluded, Xue Lan impassively clicked ‘block,’ unconcerned about this stranger they’d never cross paths with again in the future.

However, just when Xue Lan assumed that Wen Yan shared his perspective, he suddenly heard Wen Yan activate the group mic —

“Skilled at the game, a damage dealer, and at least… part of a professional team.”

The author has something to say:

Lanlan (sobbing): Reset! That describes him perfectly!!! My CP is real!!!
