Chapter 81 - 80: A Treasure? Or a Death Warrant?

The call went unanswered, disconnecting automatically after timing out. Sev Steele kept dialing. It wasn’t until the fifth attempt, after a full fifteen seconds of ringing, that the other party finally answered.

"Are you crazy, woman? If I don’t answer the first time, it means I’m busy. Do you have any brains at all? Calling five times in a row?"

"I’m sorry, I’m sorry! Something happened to Rose. Please come over and help!" Sev said rapidly.

"What did you say? The little girl was perfectly fine staying at home—how could something happen? Alright, alright, we’ll talk when I get there. I’m on my way!" Shocked and angry, Doctor Jenkins hung up.

Ten minutes later, he arrived at Sev Steele’s house.

Looking at the little girl trembling in pain while unconscious, he raised his hand. A colorless, transparent ring of light flowed from his fingertips, undulating toward Rose’s body until it completely enveloped her. A dozen seconds later, he withdrew the light, his expression solemn. "Her Ability overexertion is much worse this time. If her Ability didn’t have healing properties, she would already be dead."

"What kind of mother are you? To let your four-year-old daughter overdraw her Ability to such a severe degree—are you trying to ruin her future?" Doctor Jenkins raised his voice, reprimanding her angrily. This was the first time Sev had ever seen him truly furious. The oppressive aura radiating from him weighed down on her like a mountain. Sev felt her bones CREAK under the immense pressure. She didn’t doubt for a second that he could crush her into dust in an instant if he wanted to!

In his fury, Doctor Jenkins finally noticed Sev’s pale complexion and reigned in his aura.

"Speak! What exactly happened?" His tone was icy, completely different from the man Sev thought she knew.

Not daring to hide anything, Sev recounted the entire incident in detail.

"So, your Vitality was drained by a strange wooden box, and to save your life, the little girl gave it her all and completely hollowed herself out?" Doctor Jenkins asked.

"Yes. If only I could have stopped her..." Sev was teary-eyed, but she was interrupted mid-sentence.

"There are no ’ifs’, only results. Do you want me to find that person to treat Rose?" Doctor Jenkins said.

"Yes. I will owe you a massive favor for this, and I will do everything in my power to repay you in the future," Sev said.

"I can’t help you. Even if I could get that person to step in, she wouldn’t be able to save Rose," Doctor Jenkins said.

"Why?" Sev cried out.

"I told you, Rose’s Ability already possesses healing properties. If her own Ability cannot repair her body, an outsider has even less of a chance. You might not understand. An Ability user’s own power achieves perfect synchronization with their body, whereas Abilities transferred by an outsider can only reach a maximum of seventy percent synchronization. Even though that person’s Power Level is high, given Rose’s current condition, her body simply cannot handle the intrusion of a High Tier Ability," Doctor Jenkins explained.

"So, she can only rely on herself to slowly recover?"

"No. Right now, she can only use her Ability to barely protect her internal organs. To put it bluntly, she is just clinging to life," Doctor Jenkins said.

Sev looked at him, the light of hope in her eyes extinguishing bit by bit.

Seeing her looking so devastated, Doctor Jenkins suddenly felt a pang of sympathy, his anger slowly dissipating. Although she was the cause of the incident, it wasn’t her intention. One could only say that the heavens were jealous of young geniuses.

"Right, didn’t you say you found a treasure? Bring it here, let me appraise it for you!" Unable to stand the stifling atmosphere in the room, Doctor Jenkins bluntly changed the subject.

Reminded by him, Sev finally snapped out of her despair. Even if Rose couldn’t be cured right now, she couldn’t just give up. Back on Azure, many diseases were once considered terminal, but as time passed and medical technology advanced, those incurable illnesses eventually became treatable. Perhaps someday in the future, her Rose would experience a stroke of luck and meet someone who could cure her.

Sev quickly took the pendant out of her inner pocket and handed it to him. Upon receiving it, Doctor Jenkins’s expression immediately changed.

"Where exactly did you find this? Hurry, take me to see!" His tone was urgent, as if he couldn’t wait another second.

"I’m afraid it’s too late for today. Let’s wait until tomorrow," Sev said, pointing at her watch.

"Apologies! I was too impatient and lost track of time," Doctor Jenkins said. He sat back down, slowly calming his excitement before speaking again.

"This is a custom-made Space Button, personally crafted by the Fifth Tier Space Ability User, Gavin Jarvis. Look at the front of the pendant—it’s engraved with an artistic ’Gavin’, and the back has an artistic ’Jarvis’. This is Master Jarvis’s exclusive mark."

Sev followed his pointing finger and stared wide-eyed for a long time, but she still couldn’t tell that they were artistic letters. They clearly looked like a flower and a leaf! Well, she just had the eyes of an ordinary person, nowhere near the sharp gaze of an expert.

"You might not know this, but Master Jarvis is the most famous Space Button manufacturer on the entire Planet Veridia. The Space Buttons he makes not only have a massive capacity, but they can also be bound to two different biochips before their first use. One is the buyer’s own biochip, and the other belongs to a designated heir chosen by the buyer. Once the owner of the Space Button loses all vital signs, it can only be opened by their originally designated heir. Outsiders can neither force it open nor violently destroy it. That is because the material he uses is Voidstone, which is on par with SSS Level alloy," Doctor Jenkins continued explaining.

"No wonder. I couldn’t even leave a scratch on it with the S Level alloy dagger you gave me," Sev said, a look of sudden realization dawning on her. Although she used to be an outstanding youth who would never pocket lost items, this time, it truly broke her heart. A Space Button she had always dreamed of was right in front of her, yet, frustratingly, she couldn’t open it. She just wondered if she could get a reward after returning the treasure to its rightful owner.

Doctor Jenkins read her expression and continued, "The letters ’A.S.’ are engraved at the chain’s clasp on this Space Button. Its owner should be the Master of Potions from the Third Safe Zone, Arvin Stone. Five years ago, it was rumored that Master Stone had developed a Genetic Potion capable of triggering the awakening of a human’s Ability, though it wasn’t yet perfected. However, before his research could be released, he mysteriously disappeared. He was never seen alive, nor was his body ever found.

"This caused a huge sensation at the time. The Third Safe Zone once offered a bounty of fifty million points just for a clue about Master Stone’s whereabouts. Unfortunately, he vanished completely after that, and no one has heard from him since. This Space Button is incredibly valuable on its own, but the items inside are worth far more. There is a very high possibility that Master Stone stored his research results inside it."
