Chapter 62: Dreams Can Reveal the Course of One’s Fate
As it drew close to noon, Chen Yuan looked up at the clock on the wall, and a sense of restlessness began to creep over him. He knew that before long, Yu Shenliu would inevitably appear in front of him, have lunch with him, send him back afterward, and then pick him up again that evening. Weren’t they practically entering the old-married-couple stage already? The thing was, even an old married couple shouldn’t be acting so ambiguously with each other. These days, whenever Chen Yuan was around Yu Shenliu, he felt uncomfortable from head to toe.
After all, compared to Yu Shenliu gradually learning what it meant to have no shame, Chen Yuan was simply more mild-mannered. At the end of the day, he was still someone with thin skin. When it came to relationships, the thicker your skin, the more you tended to get your way.
According to Sis Li and Yu Zhi’s assessment of Yu Shenliu, it was simple: Keep at it. Before long, Yuanyuan would fall right into your clutches.
Yu Shenliu wholeheartedly agreed. And so, today, just as Chen Yuan was thinking that he would take another look at someone before Yu Shenliu came over, Yu Shenliu slowly walked into the room behind the screen and smiled at Chen Yuan.
“Yuanyuan.” He called out to Chen Yuan.
Chen Yuan had an intense feeling of Why is it you again? and Why is it always you? He stared in surprise and blurted out the other man’s name. “Shenliu!?”
“Isn’t it still not noon yet?” Chen Yuan glanced at the clock on the wall and confirmed that it was indeed eleven-thirty, not the usual twelve-thirty. Why had Yu Shenliu come looking for him so much earlier today? Even when Yu Shenliu came before, at least there had been a set time, enough for Chen Yuan to mentally prepare himself. But now that Yu Shenliu had suddenly appeared, Chen Yuan was at a loss for what to do.
“Mhm. Who said I have to come here to take you to lunch?” Yu Shenliu walked up to Chen Yuan and looked down at him. There was a gentle, professional smile on his face, but in Chen Yuan’s eyes, it carried a subtle air of wickedness that was incredibly annoying. “Actually, I’m a customer right now.”
Chen Yuan narrowed his eyes in silence, suppressing the urge to rub his forehead. A customer? Was he kidding? Usually, when Yu Shenliu consulted him, it was at night while they were at home. During business hours, Yu Shenliu knew perfectly well that he was busy, and there was already a huge crowd of customers here. So how had he suddenly shown up like an ordinary customer? More importantly, how had he even gotten a number?
Chen Yuan remembered that the numbers here had already been driven up to who knew how high a price, and even then, the spots near the front were practically impossible to buy. Yet Yu Shenliu had gotten one with ease and was now standing right in front of him, openly claiming to be a customer. How was that even possible?
In fact, Chen Yuan had been fooled by Yu Shenliu. It wasn’t that Yu Shenliu lacked money, but he still couldn’t bring himself to spend a fortune buying a place in line. Besides, who among those at the front of the queue wasn’t from a wealthy family? The chance to speak with a genuine master wasn’t something you could get just by having money. How could they possibly let Yu Shenliu buy one of their spots?
Yu Shenliu’s method was extremely simple. Whenever he wanted to come over, he would just walk straight to the front of the crowd and let himself in. The regulars nearby would naturally tell the people waiting behind who he was. After Yu Shenliu had been picking Chen Yuan up and dropping him off every day, everyone in the area already knew that there was something unusual about their relationship. To put it bluntly, by picking Chen Yuan up and dropping him off for work every day, Yu Shenliu had successfully planted the impression in everyone’s minds that “Chen the Half-Immortal is taken”—even though that wasn’t actually true at all.
And this “unusual relationship” was precisely what made everyone furious about Yu Shenliu cutting in line while simultaneously leaving them too afraid to say anything.
Looking at Yu Shenliu’s smiling face, Chen Yuan couldn’t help feeling that something was off. None of it made sense. Yu Shenliu suddenly coming over to be his customer was just too strange.
Seeing the puzzled look on Chen Yuan’s face, Yu Shenliu was in an excellent mood. Only then did he reveal the truth. “All right, I was just teasing you.”
Teasing him? Chen Yuan was speechless. Sure enough, Yu Shenliu’s personality was getting worse and worse.
“Then why did you come looking for me so early?” he asked glumly.
Still shameless as ever, Yu Shenliu smiled and replied, “I got off work early today. I wanted to spend some time with you.” Working hours in Huaxia were often quite flexible. Once you finished what you had to do, you could leave, so although Yu Shenliu was usually very busy, there were always days like today when he could get off work early. If he were willing to speed through most of his work, he could even take a vacation. After all, the ancient system of taking days off and the like had continued into the present day, resulting in this arrangement.
“…”
Chen Yuan couldn’t even be bothered to look at Yu Shenliu anymore. He raised his head and called out loudly toward the outside, “Next!”
This time, Yu Shenliu was sensible enough to take the hint. He sat quietly to the side without saying another word.
The next person came in.
The next person was a broad, heavyset woman. The features on her face were crowded together by her flesh, and she wore loose, oversized clothes. Fortunately, she hadn’t caked her face in makeup. She was dressed cleanly and neatly, and there was nothing unpleasant about her appearance.
When she came in, she first glanced at Yu Shenliu, looking somewhat hesitant. Then she looked at Chen Yuan before finally sitting down in the chair across from him. The chair gave a creak, and an uneasy expression immediately appeared on her face.
Chen Yuan wasn’t someone who judged people by their appearance. From the woman’s clothing, mannerisms, and the way she carried herself, he could tell that she had clearly been well brought up. She was probably just somewhat insecure because of her weight.
So Chen Yuan nodded at her, ignoring Yu Shenliu beside him, and asked, “Ma’am, is there something you’d like to ask me about?” Chen Yuan might not have spoken so carefully with other people, but this woman’s situation was a little different. He was doing his best not to make her feel as though her self-esteem had been hurt.
Yu Shenliu watched Chen Yuan’s every move and noticed his thoughtfulness. As expected of the person he had fallen for. Unfortunately, that thoughtfulness was directed toward this woman rather than him. That was rather disappointing.
Chen Yuan’s initiative in asking her a question helped the woman relax a little. She bit her lip, then began describing her situation.
“Master Chen, I’ve had the same dream several times in a row recently.”
