Chapter 15: Taking Advantage of the Opportunity to Get In
Because of Lin You, Mu Yanxiao’s life barely changed after becoming blind. Or rather, his blindness hadn’t caused any significant losses or inconveniences. Aside from occasionally having to listen to that parrot’s astonishing remarks every day, Mu Yanxiao felt that life was still pretty good.
Meanwhile, Lin You was also basically satisfied with his current life. Looking at the latest laptop he had asked Mu Four to buy, Young Master Lin You felt that if he weren’t particularly worried about the current condition of his body, he could stay a little longer for the sake of Mu Yanxiao’s eyes. He had never imagined that being a parrot could be more relaxing and enjoyable than being a person.
Of course, his top priority right now was still to contact his family as soon as possible. As for everything else, there was nothing he could do but think about it for now.
Lin You used his entire body to prop open the computer. After struggling with it for ages, he finally managed to adjust the screen to a suitable position. His previous thought that being a parrot was relaxing and enjoyable immediately vanished without a trace. Not to mention that even turning on a computer required him to roll, brace, rub, and bump his body against it, there would only be more situations like this in the future, when he couldn’t lift things with his hands or carry things on his shoulders. Just imagine having no hands to do anything and being able to use only your mouth or two little claws!
Lin You instantly felt utterly miserable. His situation was simply worse than Mu Yanxiao’s right now. Mu Yanxiao was, at most, unable to see, whereas he was already in a state where both his arms had been chopped off! What? You say there are still wings? Are you kidding me? Do you think this is a Disney animated film? Do all birds have five feathers on each wing, with each feather representing a finger? Darling, this is the real world, not a fairy tale, and definitely not a cultivation world.
But the one thing that could give Lin You some comfort was that although his wings couldn’t split apart and function like fingers, he could still use them to poke the keyboard. Of course, the softness of the keyboard deserved a lot of credit, but the fact that his wings were sturdy enough not to get poked through was also worth praising.
It was the afternoon that Lu Yuan and Mu Yanxiao had agreed upon.
Under Lin You’s verbal guidance, Mu Yanxiao had already sat down on the sofa. Two small earbuds were plugged into his ears, and he was listening to the recording of a document made by Mu Two. Originally, Mu Yanxiao had planned to have Lin You wait beside him for Lu Yuan’s arrival. Unfortunately, Young Master Lin You absolutely refused to waste his time and energy when he had a new computer to play with. After tussling with Mu Yanxiao for quite some time, he finally got Mu Yanxiao to reluctantly agree to let him play on the computer first. However, the moment Mu Yanxiao called for him, he had to come running immediately.
Although Big Boss Mu could hardly imagine how a parrot could play with a computer instead of being played by the computer, he had already heard plenty about Lin You’s abnormalities, so one more wasn’t a big deal. In any case, what the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t grieve over. Young Master Mu felt that this was about the only thing that gave him some comfort after losing his sight.
Ding dong.
The doorbell rang, and Mu Yanxiao straightened up. Meanwhile, Lin You stared excitedly at the webpage that had started spinning like a chrysanthemum, his heart pounding at the thought that he would soon be able to contact someone he knew.
Lu Yuan followed Mu One into the house he had secretly looked at countless times. When he quietly entered the living room, he saw the man who made him both resentful and obsessed.
At that moment, Mu Yanxiao was leaning against the sofa with his eyes slightly closed. His handsome, somewhat sharp features were bathed in the afternoon sunlight, making him look considerably gentler. His hands rested casually on the documents in his lap, occasionally tapping them lightly. His legs were crossed, giving him an unrestrained and carefree elegance.
“You’re here?”
That low, elegant voice sounded just as it had in Lu Yuan’s memory. Lu Yuan jolted awake from the scene before him, hid the obsession and greed in his eyes, and put on a gentle smile. “I heard you were in a car accident? Tsk tsk. If I weren’t certain that Dr. Ouyang would never lie to me, I wouldn’t believe you were actually blind just by looking at you now.”
As he spoke, Lu Yuan casually walked toward Mu Yanxiao, his eyes fixed intently on the expression on his face. “Could it be that you’re such a business genius that people praise not only your vision and talent, but even your ability to ignore every difficulty? How are the rest of us supposed to survive?”
Mu Yanxiao was taken aback by this and couldn’t help laughing.
“Even big stars and top medical students know how to tease people now? Sit wherever you like. Tell Mu One what you want to drink.”
A hint of surprise flashed through Lu Yuan’s eyes at Mu Yanxiao’s response. Although he had already heard reports from Zheng Yuhu and Chen Yuhe’s subordinates, he was still startled when he came into close contact with Mu Yanxiao and saw just how calm he was and how stable his mental state appeared to be.
Lu Yuan’s main field of research was psychotropic hallucinogens and drugs, while on the surface, he was an expert in sedative medications. Although his apparent field of research was merely a cover, it was still an area in which Lu Yuan possessed genuine professional knowledge, so there was no room for even the slightest pretense. Precisely because Lu Yuan was no half-baked expert, he believed that even if Mu Yanxiao was mentally stable and behaved normally, there should still be extreme negative emotions such as anxiety, anger, and gloom hidden in his subconscious.
Yet the man Lu Yuan was looking at now genuinely lacked the emotions he should have had.
This was strange, or rather, quite worthy of scrutiny. Lu Yuan silently pondered this as he drank the tea Mu One had brought him. Not only did Mu Yanxiao appear completely normal in every respect, but the negative emotions suppressed in his subconscious seemed even fewer than they had been when Lu Yuan had encountered him in England.
If this wasn’t because Mu Yanxiao was naturally capable of resolving and regulating his own emotions, then there could only be one reason for this result: emotional transference. Simply put, there had to be some kind of existence beside him that was weakening his negative emotions every day, gradually allowing him to regulate his own mood.
Tsk.
Lu Yuan clicked his tongue softly, a trace of malice flashing through his narrow eyes. Someone had actually gotten there before him?
His original plan had been to become that kind of presence, one that could weaken and regulate Mu Yanxiao’s negative emotions. After all, although Mu Yanxiao was at his most vigilant right now, he was also at his most vulnerable. This was precisely the kind of opportunity meant by “taking advantage of someone’s weakness.” Once he succeeded, he could be certain that Mu Yanxiao would subconsciously side with him for a long time to come. With the right manipulation, he could even completely control this man’s heart.
But after calculating everything so carefully, he had actually miscalculated? Just who was this person who was so lucky and so utterly unaware of their own good fortune? It was best to never let him find out.
“How is that teasing? Who would dare tease a cold-faced devil like you?” Lu Yuan chuckled softly. “But it’s true that you’re in remarkably good spirits. So good that it’s actually surprised me. Look at you. You’re even joking with me instead of planning to sit here facing me until I leave.”
Mu Yanxiao laughed and shook his head, but said nothing.
“Seriously, judging from what I’ve learned, someone must be helping you relieve your stress for you to be in such good spirits, and the effect seems quite impressive. How about it? Young Master, when did you make such a close and reliable friend? Or… which beautiful girlfriend is it?” Lu Yuan spoke with a hint of teasing in his voice, but there wasn’t the slightest trace of amusement on his face.
Mu Yanxiao was taken aback and instinctively frowned. “My eyesight is already bad, so why would I look for a girlfriend? So I can have a headache from being annoyed every day?” After saying this, Mu Yanxiao continued, “Although I do have a little… guy here who helps relieve my stress. But Lu Yuan, he isn’t my friend. He’s just a troublemaker.”
Lu Yuan slowly clenched his right hand after hearing Mu Yanxiao’s words, but his expression remained unchanged. “Oh? Young Master, don’t lie to me. If that person really is a troublemaker, how could you possibly keep him by your side? Wouldn’t he have been thrown into the sea long ago?”
Just as Mu Yanxiao was about to speak, he suddenly heard his parrot’s familiar yet particularly tragic howl coming from the second bedroom.
“Ahhhhhhhhhhh—!! How can the website be under maintenance?! Fucking hell, this isn’t JJ, that dead-as-hell website. Is this website being under maintenance a sign that the demons of Hell are about to take over the Earth?!”
The shocked and utterly bewildered Lu Yuan, “?!” What was that utterly insane-sounding voice?
The fucking speechless Mu Yanxiao, “…” Sure enough, his parrot could go crazy just from looking at a computer. But… parrots could browse websites too? He had no idea what kind of shitty website he was looking at.
