Chapter 27: Don’t Act Tough
After successfully soothing his parrot, Young Master Mu and his group arrived at the First Hospital in a “joyful” atmosphere.
The timing was perfect; the bespectacled Dr. Ouyang was already waiting in the VIP room.
“Young Master, your presence is both a relief and a surprise.” Dr. Ouyang adjusted his newly fitted glasses. “It seems there have been some positive changes in you since you lost your sight, isn’t it?”
Mu Yanxiao dismissed the veiled mockery with a disdainful expression. “Hurry up. I’m busy.”
Dr. Ouyang’s lips twitched. He was old enough to be Mu Yanxiao’s uncle, yet this man didn’t seem to care at all. Moreover, his personality remained as unpleasant and aloof as ever.
“Forget it. Let’s begin the brain microdialysis and full-body checkup. It will take about two hours in total, and the results can be sent to you tomorrow.”
Mu Yanxiao nodded, then patted Lin You’s head. “Go find somewhere to stand, or lie down on the sofa. It’ll only take as long as a nap.”
Lin You flapped his wings and tilted his head. “You don’t need me to remind you?”
Mu Yanxiao finally spoke frankly for once. “We’re in the hospital, and everyone here knows I have poor eyesight, so there’s no need for me to keep pretending to be a normal person.”
Young Master Lin You covered his beak with one wing and snickered. “I thought you never considered yourself abnormal?”
Mu Yanxiao’s response was the back of his head. Lin You thought about it and decided that exposing someone’s shortcomings probably wasn’t a very nice thing to do. But since everything was fine, how about taking a nap? What should he eat tonight? Ugh, he was getting pretty tired of grilled chicken wings. Maybe he should have some grilled squid next.
Lin You was happily thinking about food when his body suddenly stiffened. His previously raised tail feathers drooped, and he instantly became unhappy.
He had suddenly remembered that tonight he still had to meet someone he instinctively couldn’t stand! And based on Young Master Lin You’s intuition, he could be one hundred percent certain that pretty boy named Lu Yuan would come over to freeload a meal!
“…Malicious intent, deep scheming, definitely up to no good!” Lin You muttered indignantly. His voice was too soft for Mu Two and Mu Four, who had come along with them, to hear clearly, but Mu Five, who was skilled in martial arts, still caught at least one of the words.
Mu Five’s expression immediately went through all sorts of changes. By now, he was truly certain that his master’s parrot was extraordinary. Although he had spent the past month constantly having his understanding of ‘parrots’ overturned, whenever something happened, he still couldn’t help thinking about it again and again. If this parrot really is a parrot spirit, could he have come to repay a debt of gratitude?! But if he didn’t come to repay a debt of gratitude, what if he’s some spirit that makes the boss like him, then plans to drain all his life force?! Is he actually a good bird or not?! This is seriously such a dilemma!!
Time ticked by as Mu Five struggled with his dilemma. When half the examination time had passed, Dr. Ouyang’s expression grew somber as he looked at the CT scan results. Although they had yet to conduct a consultation and analysis, the situation alone was already far from optimistic.
Dr. Ouyang paused and looked at the composed man sitting opposite him before suddenly letting out a long sigh. He couldn’t help shaking his head and smiling wryly. He now had to admire this man, who was more than ten years younger than him. He had originally thought that at least eighty percent of everything Mu Yanxiao had achieved was due to his family’s influence, but now it seemed that Mu Yanxiao himself was more than worthy of respect.
“Young Master, does your head still hurt?” Ouyang Ming asked as casually as he could.
Even so, Mu Yanxiao didn’t fall into this little trap. Instead, he raised an eyebrow. “You noticed?”
Ouyang Ming’s tone was quite harsh. “Obviously! Unless I’m blind, how could I not see the slight signs of abrasion on your brain? That piece of glass will shift slightly whenever you engage in strenuous activity, right? Even though the movement is tiny, it’s enough to make an ordinary person clutch their head and cry in pain.”
“You think I wouldn’t know there’s something wrong with you just because you’re acting expressionless?!” By the end, Ouyang Ming’s expression and demeanor had darkened considerably. As a man, Mu Yanxiao was certainly impressive, but as a patient, doctors absolutely hated patients like him! He stubbornly refused to complain about the pain or show any concern. Couldn’t he act like a normal patient for once? Moreover, Mu Yanxiao’s current condition was truly far from optimistic.
“I won’t say anything else. You wouldn’t listen anyway. But there’s one thing you absolutely have to consider carefully. It concerns your life.”
Mu Yanxiao quietly held his breath. When he couldn’t hear the sound of wings flapping, he figured his parrot might have fallen asleep. “Go on.”
“Based on what we’ve observed so far, the glass fragment in your brain is increasingly likely to become dislodged over the next few months. In other words, it will continue pressing against and damaging your nerves and brain cells. If this continues unchecked, within a year, you could gradually lose control of your body. Your intelligence and memory could also deteriorate, eventually leaving you demented. And in the worst-case scenario, you could die.”
Mu Two and Mu Four’s expressions changed drastically.
“Dr. Ouyang! Are you kidding us?!”
Ouyang Ming pushed up his glasses and sneered. “I never joke about patients. As I said before, the fact that he keeps a straight face and acts completely normal doesn’t mean he isn’t in pain or that his condition hasn’t worsened. Your boss has far too much self-control. You should remind him that he’s a patient whenever you have the chance.”
“Putting that aside, what I want Young Master to consider is having a craniotomy to remove the glass fragment within six months, or at the latest, within a year. Although the success rate is extremely low, it’s still better than slowly watching yourself die. Moreover, with the Mu Family’s resources, hiring a world-class neurosurgeon to perform the surgery won’t be a problem. If you have the surgeon conduct simulations and practice procedures tailored to your specific situation beforehand, it should be possible to improve the chances of success.”
Mu Yanxiao remained silent, while Mu Four looked at Ouyang Ming in disagreement. “Dr. Ouyang, medicine is also one of the fields I studied. The success rate of the boss’s surgery is simply too low. Even with a top-notch surgeon and repeated practice, there’s still a high chance that the boss might never wake up after the operation. We should look for a safer solution. We absolutely cannot take this risk!”
Ouyang Ming’s expression showed neither agreement nor disagreement upon hearing Mu Four’s words. He simply sighed. “I understand your concerns. Actually, I feel the same way right now. It’s just that I’ve looked into many possible methods and haven’t found a solution. All I can do for now is warn Young Master. Elder Mu has been incredibly kind to me, and I don’t want anything to happen to his beloved grandson either.”
Mu Yanxiao was silent for a moment before nodding. “If you still haven’t found a better solution after six months, and my condition has clearly worsened, then we’ll proceed with the surgery… However, Grandpa may not approve. Let’s just keep this matter to ourselves for now. Don’t tell Grandpa or Yanming yet.”
Ouyang Ming was silent for several seconds before finally nodding reluctantly. “Alright. Let’s not worry Elder Mu for now.”
Bang!
Suddenly, a muffled thud rang out. Mu Yanxiao, Mu Two, Mu Four, and Ouyang Ming all reacted quickly and looked over. The other three saw the Congo Grey Parrot sprawled on the carpet, squawking in pain. Although Mu Yanxiao couldn’t see him, that didn’t stop him from hearing his own parrot’s angry roar.
“Damn it! Whose sofa is this?! It’s so narrow! How is a parrot supposed to sleep on this thing?!”
Mu Five stood nearby with a twitch at the corner of his mouth. “…” This parrot spirit is terrifying. He clearly fell because he was eavesdropping, yet he actually claims he fell while sleeping! Fine, even if he really was sleeping! That sofa is big enough for even him to lie down on. Just how capable does a parrot have to be to roll off it in his sleep?
Mu Yanxiao, “…” His parrot always acts like a madman.
But that conversation just now… This little thing probably didn’t hear it, right?
Meanwhile, as Lin You rolled around, he wondered whether his Little Uncle had any miraculous pills that could nourish the brain. His blind Master’s condition sounded really bad… Hopefully, this wasn’t a tribulation he was destined to go through.
