Chapter 32: Goodbye Linlin
Just as Mu Yanxiao was about to get into the car, a very short man suddenly appeared beside it. His lower limbs were clearly impaired, but his arms were surprisingly thick and powerful.
The man held six extremely sharp scalpels between his ten fingers. The instant Mu Yanxiao ran over, both of his hands moved, and the six gleaming scalpels came whistling toward him. Mu Four reacted extremely quickly, throwing three throwing knives and knocking two of the scalpels away. Mu One kicked away two more, leaving two scalpels, one high and one low, flying toward Mu Yanxiao’s face and the top of his head.
Mu Yanxiao paused for a second, then dodged the lower scalpel. Even that single movement took considerable effort. Fortunately, he could sense that the other scalpel was too high to hit him. All he had to do was lower his head slightly to avoid it. But at that moment, Mu Yanxiao heard a voice that made his heart clench in terror.
“Master, squawk! Watch out for the flying knives!”
“Don’t come down!!” Mu Yanxiao’s voice was harsher than ever before.
Lin You froze when he heard this, but by then he could no longer control his wings. His body continued to fall, and then he landed on Mu Yanxiao’s head.
A piercing pain instantly spread through him.
“Linlin?!”
Mu Yanxiao’s urgent voice rang out. “Linlin! You…?!”
Warm, wet liquid slowly trickled down from his head. Mu Yanxiao’s entire body froze. He suddenly didn’t dare move at all, afraid that if he moved even slightly, the little thing on top of his head would disappear.
“…Linlin, are you alright? Tell me, is it just your wing that’s injured, or… is your leg broken?”
Mu Yanxiao’s voice was so soft it was almost inaudible, yet it trembled unmistakably.
“Cough… very, very unfortunately… I have to tell you~ Little Master… cough, cough… from my throat to my heart… it’s all been pierced through… cough, cough… I told you… today… today you’d have a bloodshed calamity… look… look at you now… covered in… blood…”
Mu Yanxiao took a deep breath. Even though his world had already been plunged into darkness, at that moment, he still felt as though the entire world were teetering and shaking around him.
“Linlin… let’s go home.”
“Go… home…?”
“Yes, go home. Once we get home, you’ll be fine… Believe me, you’ll definitely be fine.”
Lin You felt a pair of warm yet trembling hands hold him and gently stroke him. The warmth made him want to sigh. He could feel his consciousness rapidly slipping away. Perhaps his soul would dissipate before they even made it home.
“I… was so stupid… The black… black crow… wasn’t coming for you… It… it had been waiting for… me… I’m sorry… blind… Master… I… might… not be able to… make it home.”
“Ah… actually… actually, I… can’t go back anymore.”
“Don’t talk.” Mu Yanxiao held the parrot tightly in his arms. Since losing his sight, he had never hated his own eyes as much as he did today! He had raised this parrot for a month. He had accompanied him through the most difficult period of his life and found different ways to make him happy every day. Yet even now, he still hadn’t seen what he looked like! He couldn’t even see what he looked like when he was seriously injured and dying.
“Linlin, don’t talk, okay? We’ll be home soon. Once we’re home, we’ll stay inside and won’t go anywhere. Just hold on until we get back. Forget one day, even if it’s a month, we can stay at home and not go anywhere. Nowhere!!”
By the end, Mu Yanxiao was practically roaring. Why hadn’t he listened to Linlin?! Why had he insisted on bringing Linlin to see the amusement park?! Why had his reaction been so slow, so slow that he couldn’t block that flying knife for Linlin?!
Why couldn’t he see anything? Why was he so powerless, left with nothing but anger?
“Blind… Master… let me… tell you one last thing.”
Lin You felt the black crow circling and drawing closer. Since he was already going to die, there was no need to keep hiding this from his blind master anymore. He had nothing left to worry about, so he said in an almost cheerful voice, barely above a whisper, “Actually… actually, Little Master… I’m a human… I… I’m the one… you… you hit with your car…”
“Linlin?”
The parrot in Mu Yanxiao’s arms was no longer breathing. Mu Yanxiao’s heart jolted.
“Linlin?!”
“Boss… Linlin, he’s already—”
“Shut up!” Mu Yanxiao suddenly raised his head, his expression almost ferocious. His sightless eyes were bloodshot, the whites filled with red veins.
Mu Five tugged at Mu Four’s hand, then silently shook his head. Mu Four felt a pang in his heart. He could only lean back against the seat with a bitter smile and close his eyes, recalling the faces of those people just now.
He would never let those who had caused Boss such pain and killed Little Six get away with it! Back then, Little Six had been dismembered and thrown into the sea by the enemy because he had protected the five of them. Little Six had been just like Linlin: lively, talkative, and always a little crazy. Now they had finally seen a glimpse of Little Six in Linlin, but before they even had time to rejoice, they had once again watched helplessly as he disappeared completely.
“I’ll tear them to pieces!!” Mu Four gritted his teeth. Mu Five and Mu One looked no better.
The entire way back, Mu Yanxiao held the gradually stiffening body of the parrot in his arms, his eyes vacant and his face devoid of any emotion. It wasn’t until the car drove into the garden villa and the door opened that he suddenly snapped out of his daze.
“Where’s the doctor?! Dr. Ouyang! And where’s Wang Xiao?! Drag him here from his veterinary clinic! Linlin’s injured!!”
Before Mu Yanxiao had even finished shouting, a deep voice rang out.
“Even if you’re blind, don’t tell me you can’t feel it. This parrot is completely dead.”
Mu Yanxiao suddenly turned his head. If he weren’t still holding Linlin, he would have drawn his gun and shot the person in front of him dead! Even if he was the eldest son of the Wang Family.
“Wang Xiao!”
Wang Xiao looked at Mu Yanxiao’s ferocious and frightening expression, which even made him uneasy, and couldn’t help sighing. For someone like Mu Yanxiao to be driven to this state, it was clear that this parrot held a very important place in his heart. However, dead was dead. He was a veterinarian and had also been a doctor. He was simply more indifferent to matters of life and death than most people.
“What you need to do now isn’t to stand here crying and begging for a dead parrot to come back to life. You should find out which bastard did this, then properly avenge your parrot! Otherwise, he won’t rest in peace.”
Mu Yanxiao froze, then slowly straightened his body. The weight in his arms was so light, yet it pressed down on him until he could barely breathe.
“Are you going to bury him?” Wang Xiao couldn’t help asking.
Mu Yanxiao shook his head and forced out the words with difficulty. “Cre…mate.” He wanted to keep three of his tail feathers. If he could regain his sight one day, then he would be able to imagine what a beautiful parrot Linlin must have been with such beautiful tail feathers.
“Not going to make him into a specimen?”
“No. Linlin definitely wouldn’t like that.”
“…Alright.” Wang Xiao shrugged as he spoke, then watched Mu Yanxiao slowly walk toward the house. Suddenly, he saw a huge black shadow flash past and rush straight toward Mu Yanxiao.
“?! Mu!”
“By the will of the unseen heavens, good and evil shall be balanced. May all living beings be spared from the cycle of reincarnation!”
“Squawk—! Squawk—!!”
“What’s going on?! I think I heard someone talking?!” Wang Xiao’s expression changed. “And the sound of a crow!”
Mu Yanxiao stopped in his tracks. Instinctively, he tightened his hold on the parrot in his arms, inexplicably sensing danger approaching.
“You wicked beast! Leave at once!”
“Squawk—! Squawk—!!”
“Yanxiao! I think it’s after the guy in your arms! Hold on tight!!”
Hearing Wang Xiao’s words, Mu Yanxiao tightened his grip on Lin You even further. At that moment, high above the Mu Family’s villa, unseen by everyone else, Young Master Lin You, who had returned to his ghostly state, was miserably clinging to a large tree while addressing the black crow that refused to let go of his leg.
“Hey, buddy, considering I used to be a bird too, can you leave me alone? I’m neither a great saint nor a great sinner. There’s nothing to gain from coming after me, okay?!”
“I’m telling you, my Little Uncle is calling you. Are you sure you don’t want to go? Won’t he beat you until you look like a pig’s head?! You’re really not leaving?!”
The black crow paused for a moment, but in the next instant, it bit down even harder.
Lin You was incredibly anxious. Why wasn’t this bird afraid of his Little Uncle?!
After he died and returned as a wandering spirit, he realized that he might still be able to possess someone. If that was the case, how could he possibly be willing to leave this world?!
He still had his parents, and he also had a blind, foolish master who looked as though he had lost all will to live and needed him to comfort him! If he died and his blind master did something foolish and followed him in death, damn it, that would be a terrible sin!!
Just as this bizarre stalemate continued, another clear and pleasant voice rang out.
“Blackie! Come back! I told you to find food, not ghosts! Our family never eats living souls, okay?! Besides, if you eat a Daoist’s soul, they’ll pester you endlessly. Don’t cause me trouble!”
Lin You stared in shock as the previously cool and domineering black crow shrank its head after hearing the voice. It then gave him a rather unwilling look before flapping its wings and flying away. What was going on? That voice just now sounded completely different from his Little Uncle’s.
As Lin You was thinking about it, a faint figure suddenly appeared before him. It was none other than his Little Uncle, whom he had been thinking about day and night.
“Unc-”
“You’re so stupid.” The moment Little Uncle Lin opened his mouth, it was like a thousand arrows piercing Lin You’s heart.
“You don’t need to worry about who that person is. Consider this a favor I owe him. As for the rest, deal with it yourself. If you act stupid again, just die. Second brother and sister-in-law can still have more children.”
The next moment, Lin You felt the world spinning around him. He only had time to see his Little Uncle hurriedly leave and his blind master suddenly collapse to the ground.
When Lin You opened his eyes again, it took him a full hour to comfort himself and adjust to his current situation.
Ah, what’s so bad about possessing a guinea pig?! Look! There’s even a pile of peanuts here, enough to stuff him to death!! …………Damn! What happened to the cute cat and the husky?! What can a guinea pig do besides being cute?!
