Chapter 43: Deserved Misfortune

Chen Yuhe and Zheng Yuhu were both involved in car accidents, but just like Mu Yanxiao, neither of them was going to die. At most, they would suffer injuries of varying severity.

In fact, in some ways, during the years they had spent fighting over the Zhang Family’s wealth and influence, Mu Yanxiao and Zheng Yuhu had developed a habit of “causing car accidents for each other whenever they had nothing better to do” or “finding some way to provoke each other whenever they had nothing better to do.” As a result, they were both quite well prepared when it came to guarding against danger.

The reason Mu Yanxiao had suffered such a heavy loss in the previous car accident was twofold. One was because his trusted subordinate, Mu Seven, had betrayed him. The other could only be attributed to his terrible luck. Or perhaps, his time had simply come.

So, in the car accident Mu Four had arranged this time, Zheng Yuhu wasn’t seriously injured, only suffering a broken arm. Chen Yuhe was much more seriously injured by comparison, but even then, only three of his four limbs were broken. Critical areas such as his head, heart, and, well, his family jewels were completely unharmed.

When Mu Four received the report from his subordinate, he actually found this rather regrettable.

After receiving medical treatment, Zheng Yuhu and Zhang Shan went straight home. Chen Yuhe and his mother, Zhang Ya, however, had to remain in the hospital for a few days. This arrangement left the ten sturdy rats assigned to monitor Zhang Ya rather depressed. They hated the smell of disinfectant, and even the decent food in the hospital cafeteria couldn’t make up for it.

On the first day of surveillance…

Zhang Shan was eating a beauty-enhancing soup specially prepared for her by the chef at the villa. The soup tasted as delicious as ever, but on the third bite, a distinctly strange flavor suddenly spread across her tongue. Zhang Shan frowned slightly, spat the food onto the tablecloth, and her face instantly turned ashen.

“Where’s the chef?! What is this?! What’s going on?!”

The Zheng Family’s chef came out in confusion, only to see something on the tablecloth that looked remarkably like some kind of animal excrement.

The chef’s expression shifted repeatedly as he miserably wondered whether Madam Zhang would believe him if he told her it was a piece of black plum flesh.

“Where are the cleaning staff? Call them all over!”

Clearly, Zhang Shan wasn’t as easy to fool as Zhang Ya. Before the chef could even open his mouth, she called for the cleaning staff. However, after giving the order, she changed her mind and had the housekeeper who was always by her side rescind it. She did, however, promptly fire the cleaning staff. Then Zhang Shan turned her attention back to the chef.

Seeing the look on Zhang Shan’s face, the head chef knew there was no way he was getting off easily. He casually shrugged, removed his hat, and said to Zhang Shan, “Madam, I’ve wanted to say this for a long time. You’re far too picky about food, yet you don’t understand how real delicacies should be eaten. You refuse to eat ‘scraps’ or anything you consider unclean, but in all the years I’ve worked as a personal chef for various families, I’ve hardly ever met anyone like you. Food is precious, you know. Every time I see you wasting it, I want to put rat droppings in your bowl.”

Zhang Shan’s gaze instantly became sharper than a knife as she glared at the chef.

“You’ve got guts. Letting you work as a chef for the Zheng Family was already showing you respect. Since you’re so ungrateful, you can forget about ever working in the restaurant industry in City A again!”

The round-faced chef gave a soft tsk, shrugged, and walked away. In his mind, Madam Zhang was still better than the young master. The former would only make him lose his job, while the latter… would probably cost him his life.

“Sigh, forgive me for being wild and unrestrained and loving to speak the truth.” Anyway, if one place didn’t want him, there were plenty of others that would. He had a skill; there was no way he would starve.

While the round-faced chef could still hear the commotion from the Zheng residence, a sudden scream erupted from inside. He picked at his ear and chuckled. “Hehe, sounds like something wonderful happened!”

And indeed, it had.

After dismissing the cleaning staff, Zhang Shan hadn’t yet found replacements. After all, qualified professionals weren’t so easy to find these days. So, for once, she personally went to inspect the kitchen and bedrooms.

The kitchen seemed fine at first glance—well, at most, there were a dozen or so rat droppings in the corner, and the food in the refrigerator had been chewed into all sorts of shapes. But the Zheng Family was wealthy, so it wasn’t a big deal. Really, it wasn’t. But! Even Zhang Shan, with all her composure, couldn’t remain calm when she opened her walk-in closet and jewelry room. The state of those rooms was as if a typhoon had swept through them, and it was simply infuriating!

Her 300,000-yuan dress had been chewed full of more than a dozen large holes! Her 800,000-yuan shoes had been gnawed open! The fur on her 2-million-yuan top-quality mink coat had been thoroughly mangled, driving her mad with rage.

The damage to the jewelry room was even worse than that to the walk-in closet. It wasn’t that her jewelry had been ruined. Rather, more than half of her jewelry had simply… vanished without a trace!

Normally, only she had the two keys needed to open her jewelry room, and it was also equipped with surveillance and an anti-theft system. How could all those things have disappeared without a trace?! Those pieces of jewelry were worth more than a hundred million! They accounted for sixty percent of all her assets!

Zhang Shan’s face turned pitch-black, a vicious, sinister light flashing in her eyes. “Investigate! Investigate thoroughly! I want that thief to die a miserable death!”

Yet the results of the investigation left everyone who knew about it afraid to even breathe. The surveillance footage made it incredibly easy to find the “culprits” who had damaged the clothes and stolen the jewelry. But the truth was simply too unbelievable: the security guards had found ten enormous, fat rats in the footage!

The footage showed the fat rats skillfully chewing large holes through boxes and cabinets they could bite through, then clumsily carrying the jewelry away—some in their mouths, some on their backs, some wearing it in all sorts of bizarre ways—before escaping through small holes in the house.

It was practically as if someone were controlling these rats and making them steal!

But could something this bizarre really happen? What kind of person could control rats? Besides, the jewelry consisted of limited-edition and high-end pieces. Even if someone stole them, they would be difficult to sell.

Zhang Shan didn’t care about any of that. She simply wore a cold expression as she summoned the police chief of City A and ordered him to solve the case within three days. She firmly believed this was a conspiracy targeting the Zheng Family!

If Zhang Shan hadn’t been certain that Mu Yanxiao absolutely wouldn’t have the time or means to do something like this, she might truly have believed this was Mu Yanxiao’s revenge—for the threats she and Zhang Ya had made against him.

While Zhang Shan’s side had been thoroughly ransacked by ten large rats, Zhang Ya and Chen Yuhe weren’t faring much better.

The ten large rats monitoring Zhang Ya decided to use a close-quarters surveillance approach, so they hadn’t yet wreaked havoc on her property. Besides, Zhang Ya’s wealth was far inferior to Zhang Shan’s, so even if they did cause trouble, it wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying. So the ten large rats came up with all sorts of ways to torment the two people’s food.

Chen Yuhe had bodyguards as well, but the Chen Family couldn’t compare with the Zheng Family, let alone the Mu Family. So although his bodyguards were quite capable, they were nowhere near as effective as Young Master Mu’s, who didn’t even let a single fly get past him. What’s more, even Young Master Mu’s bodyguards couldn’t stand a chance against the formidable guinea pig Linlin.

This time, the ten rats acted together. They spent an entire night breaking through the panels covering the ceiling vents, making a mess, and searching for surveillance blind spots. Of course, along the way, they inevitably encountered several stray cats roaming around the hospital.

After nearly suffering a catastrophe, the large rats invoked the name of their boss. The name itself wasn’t particularly effective. However, when the stray cats heard that these ten rats were underlings of another big cat, they couldn’t resist the thought of finding out which cat was so awesome. In the end, they didn’t attack the ten rats.

As a result, when Young Master Lin You came to personally watch the show on the first day, he ran straight into five or six stray cats.

“Meow?”

“What are you doing here? Did you really send these ten rats here to work?”

The little lynx Lin You nodded his furry head. “Meow.”

“Yep! Don’t eat them. They’re working! How about I treat you to a feast as compensation? Chicken wings or dried fish?”

“Meow meow meow!!”

“A dozen dried fish! No, no, that’s not enough. Two dozen!!”

Lin You narrowed his cat eyes, his comparatively short tail swishing happily. “Meow~”

“No problem! Let’s watch the show first!”

“Meow?”

The five or six cats, with their different-colored eyes and varying sizes but all equally adorable, tilted their heads. What show were they watching? Wasn’t watching shows something humans liked to do? The next moment, they all heard a scream coming from the medical villa across from them.

“Meow…”

“That sound is so piercing. It doesn’t sound nice at all.”

“AAAAHHHH—!! Rat droppings! So many rat droppings!! Why are there so many rat droppings on our bed?! Oh my god—!! My hair! There are some in my hair too!!”

The ten large rats all turned toward the little lynx after hearing the despairing scream. He bared his teeth in a grin, clearly indicating that Young Master Lin You was very satisfied!

Only then did the large rats breathe a sigh of relief. After all, producing that much urine and feces in a single night wasn’t easy…

Chen Yuhe was awakened by his mother’s screams, his stomach full of resentment. But before he could even lose his temper, he smelled the strange odor beside him. His eyes widened when he saw rat droppings all over his suspended legs and arms. And on his leg in the cast, the rat droppings even vaguely looked like the word “idiot”?!

He wasn’t still half asleep, was he?! Chen Yuhe was so shocked that he didn’t even know what to say.

After a long while, he finally roared, “Go get your hospital director—!!”

At this moment, Lin You, the little lynx, was leading five or six cats, all lined up on the trunk of a parasol tree outside the medical villa. They watched the people inside break down and scream in rage, and Lin You was utterly delighted. In his excitement, he raised a paw and licked it with his little tongue.

The other five or six cats saw this and inexplicably absorbed his joyful mood. They all raised their paws in unison and began licking their fur, their tails swishing back and forth in contentment.

“Meow~”

“Keep up the good work, rats! I’ll reward you according to your achievements when you come back tonight!”

Young Master Lin You let out a meow, closed his cat eyes, and covered his little mouth with a paw, looking as though he were secretly snickering in triumph. Hehe, you fools, this is only the first day! Just wait and see if I don’t make you all miserable and drive you crazy over the next two days!! How dare you threaten my blind master? That’s the same as threatening me! I’ll torture you to death, meow!!

“Meow meow?”

“Is the show over? We really want some dried fish!”

“Meow!”

“Let’s go! Dried fish, here we come! Young Master will treat you to some premium dried fish, meow hahaha!”

At this moment, beneath the secluded shade of a tree in the hospital courtyard, Mu Five and Mu Three sat in a modified Hummer, completely bewildered by the string of meows coming through the listening device.

Hmm, was Little Six recruiting underlings? Why were there so many cats?
