Chapter 46: Diversion Attack
Mu Yanxiao had told his beloved Linlin about Chen Yuhe’s dogs with the intention of making the lynx, who, despite being an impressive “big cat,” was still puny compared to large breeds like German Shepherds, Huskies, and Border Collies, think twice and back down.
After all, while lynxes grew up to be quite ferocious, his Linlin was currently only six months old, barely a size larger than an ordinary house cat. However, what made the corners of Young Master Mu’s mouth twitch was that his Lynx-Cat King showed absolutely no inclination to back down. Instead, immediately after Mu Yanxiao finished speaking, the lynx used the large-format pet smartphone custom-made for him by Mu Three to call that fat cat.
The gist of the conversation went like this:
“Hey, buddy, I’m heading out to thrash a pack of stupid dogs. Wanna join?”
“Oh man, I’ve hated those moronic dogs for ages. How could I miss out on something so satisfying? Just you wait! I’ve got a few underlings too. I’ll bring them along!”
“Sounds good! Meet at the northeast corner of the yard at Villa No. XX on XXX Road at 6 PM sharp. Don’t be late!”
“You got it!!”
Young Master Mu’s expression turned a mix of exasperation and melancholy. His pet possessed such an adventurous spirit and fearless courage that he was constantly kept on edge, hardly a comforting state of affairs.
After hanging up the phone, it was exactly 2:00 PM. Lin You refused to sit still. He spent the ensuing hours causing a ruckus, whether by pawing at Mu Three’s eavesdropping equipment or by engaging in a one-sided bout of kicking and swatting at Mu Five.
In short, throughout those remaining three hours, the Cat King Lin You embodied the very definition of “looking forward.”
Just as Mu Yanxiao was on the verge of losing his patience and grabbing the lynx by the scruff of his neck to scold him, the clock struck five. Lin You immediately leapt straight into the arms of his blind master and said:
“Blind master! It’s five o’clock! Five o’clock~ Let’s go find the treasure in the big wardrobe! I’m so excited!”
Mu Yanxiao, “…” He found the cool, domineering, and badass voice far more bearable than this sissy, cutesy tone.
“Also, we should make a trip to the hospital to pick up the six little brothers and the rat workers~ They can be really useful, you know~~”
“Speak like a normal person.” Mu Yanxiao ultimately found it too much to handle.
“No, I don’t wanna~ Master, you don’t love me anymore~”
Click.
Young Master Mu snapped the silver spoon in his hand right in two. Mu Five then swiftly handed him the voice changer.
“Hey! That was made of silver. Could you at least be a little careful?! Do you think your grandfather would approve of such waste?!” The voice was finally normal, though the tone and content remained somewhat peculiar.
Mu Yanxiao gave a cold snort. “Even if my grandfather found out, he wouldn’t say a thing. In fact, he’d probably send me another dozen sets of silver spoons just for me to snap for fun. Did you know that?”
Lin You, “…!!” Damn it! That wretched, filthy-rich class!!
Afterward, Big Boss Mu took his beloved pet, Linlin, to the Chen Family’s mansion. Naturally, he made a special detour on the way to a high-end private hospital to pick up the six cats and five rats, leaving behind another five rats to monitor the movements of Zhang Ya and Chen Yuhe, just in case any crucial information was missed.
“Meow-aow-aow!!”
“Meow… wuwu!!”
“Meow—!!”
“Squeak-squeak-squeak-squeak!!”
It was the animals’ first time riding in a car, a rather high-end mode of transport, so they were all buzzing with excitement. Well, naturally, there was some discomfort mixed in. One young cat, white with a few black patches, succumbed to motion sickness. After boarding, he collapsed onto the floor. He lay there panting heavily, his large, round eyes wide with distress.
In response, Cat King Lin You extended a sturdy little paw and patted the spotted cat’s head in a gesture of comfort.
At exactly 5:50 PM, Young Master Mu, along with Mu One and Mu Five, sat inside the Hummer, monitoring the activity at the Chen Family villa via wiretapping devices. Meanwhile, Cat King Lin You led his underlings and temporary recruits in a swift dash along the perimeter wall, slipping right into the villa’s courtyard.
“Tsk, tsk… The Chen Family’s villa is quite something; it looks massive,” Cat King Lin You remarked with a sigh of admiration as he gazed up at the house. The grounds featured rockeries, flowing water, and meticulously manicured gardens, while the European architectural style spoke of its immense value. From a distance, one could see bodyguards pacing back and forth at the entrance and in the yard, alongside nannies and cleaners who all wore tense, anxious expressions.
“Linlin! Can you hear me?” Mu Yanxiao’s voice suddenly rang out right next to his ear. Lin You’s pointed cat ears, complete with a tuft of unruly fur, twitched involuntarily. He gritted his teeth slightly before reaching up a paw to nudge the tiny earpiece backward. Animals have incredibly sensitive hearing, you know. If the volume is too high, it could cause deafness!
“Linlin?”
“I hear you, I hear you! Keep your voice down. What is it?”
“Stick close to the courtyard wall and head to the northeast corner to meet up with Garfield. There are three bodyguards walking your way.”
Lin You quickly turned his head. Sure enough, in the distance ahead, he saw bodyguards chatting and laughing, yet equipped with batons and firearms.
“Meow.”
“Follow me quickly, someone’s coming!”
“Meow-rowl!”
“Squeak, squeak, squeak.”
A faint rustling sound emerged from the grass. As the three bodyguards approached, they caught only a fleeting glimpse of a white cat’s silhouette.
“Huh? Did I just see a white cat?” Bodyguard A asked his companion in puzzlement.
“Are your eyes playing tricks on you? Not only have all the stray cats in the surrounding area been rounded up and hauled away, but even if one did manage to sneak in, there are three large dogs in this yard! Did you see that German Shepherd? Tsk, tsk. Just the sight of it makes me shudder!” Bodyguard B looked at Bodyguard A with disdain. “Stop being so paranoid. Let me tell you, a job like this is a rare find. Not only is the pay and the benefits great, but the most important thing is that this is the Chen Family! They’re one of the top ten families in City A. Who would be foolish enough to come here and cause trouble?”
Upon hearing this, Bodyguard A reflected on the matter and agreed that it was indeed the case. Suddenly noticing that Bodyguard C hadn’t voiced an opinion, he nudged him with his elbow and asked, “What do you think?”
Bodyguard C frowned. “That German Shepherd isn’t a good dog. The Rottweiler is decent though.”
Bodyguards A and B, “…” With answers like that completely missing the point, how are we supposed to work together happily?!
Just then, loud barking erupted from the kennel in the southwest corner of the courtyard. Instantly, all the security personnel, including the three guards who had just been on patrol, snapped to high alert!
The dogs are barking! Has someone snuck in?!
Meanwhile, in the northeast corner of the yard, the Cat King and Meow Lord were having their respective underlings introduce themselves to one another. Lin You had brought six feline underlings; Garfield had brought only three, yet even a complete novice like Lin You, who knew nothing about cat breeds, could tell at a glance that these three were purebreds of immense value.
“Meow-aow!”
“I never expected you to be even better at recruiting underlings than I am!”
“Duh. Do you have any idea who I am?” Lin You, the Lynx Cat King, rolled his eyes. “We can catch up later. Right now, let’s divide up the tasks. Just so you know, if we pull this off, tonight you can all feast until you puke!”
The cats and rats Lin You had brought were instantly baffled. Feast until they puked? That sounded like the height of luxury! However, for the four aristocratic cats led by fat cat Garfield, this held little appeal. In fact, one of those fat cats had actually once eaten so much he threw up, a dark secret that absolutely could not be mentioned!
“Meow!”
“Alright, here’s the plan,” Lin You said, clearing his throat. “Garfield, take your underlings and go provoke those three dogs. Ideally, get them to chase after you so they’re too distracted to pay attention to what’s happening at the manor.”
“Spotted and Whitey, the five of you go assist Garfield and act as my backup here. The moment you see me come out, you must cover my escape!”
“As for the rest of you, Rat Six, Rat Seven, and the other three, come with me. We’re going to pull off something big!”
“Meow meow meow!”
“Wait, wait, wait! Never mind the others, but me! Why can’t I go with you to do something big?!”
Garfield reached out a paw toward Lin You, looking like he really wanted to give him a good scratch.
Lin You, the young lynx, looked at the chubby Garfield with an expression that was rather subtle, yet tinged with a hint of pity. “Because you’re too fat.”
Garfield, the chubby cat, “!!” Damn it! His fur was standing on end! Damn it, this was blatant discrimination! Did he think he was any better than me?! What right did he have to call me fat?!
In the end, Garfield watched Young Master Lin You leave with a look of indignant resentment, then set off to vent all that pent-up fury on his sworn enemy.
That explains why the three large dogs, previously quite calm, suddenly erupted into a chorus of furious barking.
“Woof-woof-woof-woof-woof-woof!!”
“What kind of damn cat with a death wish dares to step onto your Dog-Daddy’s turf?! Do you want to lose your life or what?! If you’re tired of living, get out here right now! I’ll tear you apart with one bite!!”
“Woof-woof-woof.”
“Calm down, German Shepherd. Didn’t you promise never to go berserk again after getting out of the underground dog-fighting ring? Are you trying to throw a tantrum now?”
“Awoo-woof-woof-woof-woof!!”
“Border Collie, don’t try to talk me out of it! My blood is boiling! I’m going to tear the throats right out of those damn cats!! Besides, aren’t cats and dogs natural enemies? Come on, bark with me!!”
The three-year-old Border Collie, “Woof.”
“Aside from the Husky lineage, which never had a brain cell to begin with, you are the most idiotic German Shepherd I have ever met!! Can’t you see we’re both leashed? Do your siblings even know you’re this brainless and unhinged?!”
Meanwhile, the Rottweiler, who hadn’t made a sound the entire time, flicked its ears, lifted its head to glance at the cats provoking them a short distance away, paused, and then slowly lay down. Resting its chin on its paws, it simply watched the spectacle unfold without saying a word.
“…Woof?”
“Boss, is it really okay for you to just watch the show without saying a word or taking a stand?!”
The seven-year-old Rottweiler replied, “Whine… woof.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine. When you’re young, there are just some things in life you have to do! Like, say, a battle for dignity against the cats!”
The Border Collie could only let out a low, muffled grumble, while the Rottweiler twitched its nose and suddenly snapped its head toward the villa.
“Woof! Woof-woof-woof-woof!!”
The Rottweiler suddenly erupted into a loud, fierce bark, glaring with hostility at the fourth window on the villa’s third floor! Meanwhile, inside Room 2 on the third floor of the villa, Master Lin You, having crawled through ducts, scaled the roof, and breached the ceiling panel, was absolutely stunned by what he saw.
It wasn’t the hundreds of outfits filling Zhang Ya’s walk-in closet that amazed him. Rather, he was astonished by the realization that there seemed to be nowhere on Earth these rats couldn’t go. He had originally estimated it would take at least half an hour, if not longer, to enter the dressing room, given that the doors and windows were all shut tight. Yet, in a mere ten minutes, the five large rats behind him had already discovered a way to gain entry.
Tilting his adorable, broad face upward to gaze at the small hole punched through the corner of the ceiling, Master Lin You, the young lynx, thought to himself: perhaps, after today, he should seriously consider fully recruiting this squad of large rats? Talented “animal operatives” capable of infiltrating virtually anywhere were a rare find, and since this wasn’t the wild, there was no point in even dreaming of pangolins.
Just as Lin You’s mind wandered for a few seconds, he suddenly heard a continuous, thunderous chorus of barking.
Well, if one were to translate those “woofs” into words, it would go something like this:
“There’s a thief! A thief!!”
“Catch the thief, quick! A cat’s gotten into the changing room! And a whole bunch of rats too!!”
“Hurry up and catch them! You’re not moving. Are you expecting me, Lord Woof, to do it? Fine, we’ll handle it! Quick, kill those cats!!”
“Squeak?!”
“Yeah, a dog noticed us, which just goes to show Garfield didn’t do his job properly. The plan now is to find the hiding spot for my blind owner’s parents’ keepsakes. Hurry, hurry, hurry! Snap to it, everyone! Drag out anything that doesn’t look like clothing!”
And so, thanks to the instruction from a certain lynx, one that wasn’t exactly crystal clear to the animals, five rats proceeded to haul a motley assortment of items out of five different wardrobes: From Wardrobe No. 1 came a pile of briefs and various pieces of erotic lingerie.
From Wardrobe No. 2 came several boxes of glittering jewelry.
From Wardrobe No. 3 came several boxes of condoms?!
Wardrobes No. 4 and No. 5 were finally a bit more ordinary. What got dragged out of them was a lot of money. Yes, stacks upon stacks of money.
Ten minutes later, when Lin You emerged carrying in his jaws an old bag he’d dug out of Wardrobe No. 7, which appeared to contain some sort of personal effects, he was greeted by a scene of utter disarray. It was a collection of items that practically begged for wild speculation and snarky commentary.
If he were to spill the beans about Zhang Ya’s habit of stashing condoms and cash inside the big wardrobe, would something amusing happen?
“Linlin! Have you found the item yet? If not, hurry back! A dog is leading someone straight toward the villa!” Mu Yanxiao’s anxious voice crackled through the tiny earpiece. Lin You quickly shook his head to snap out of his reverie, then let out a meow to signal the rats to retreat immediately. Once the rats had all cleared out through the passage, Lin You pushed the window open with his paw and leapt out just as a commotion erupted outside the front door, accompanied by the jangling of keys.
Good, very good. There was a large tree right across from him. He should be able to leap over to it.
Crouch low, lower his head, and push off hard with his hind legs!
As the main gate burst open with a loud bang, seven or eight bodyguards, a butler, and two maids were all stunned by the scene of utter chaos before them.
“H-has this place been robbed?!” The maid couldn’t help but scream. Even though she wasn’t a bodyguard, she knew that given the Madam’s temper, anyone who laid eyes on this scene would be in for serious trouble!
“Impossible! Our security is airtight! Not even special forces could get in here without alerting us!” Bodyguard B’s face turned grim. He had just claimed that no one would dare mess with the Chen Family, yet the scene before him was a slap in the face, proving him completely wrong.
“A cat!!” Bodyguard C suddenly exclaimed, pointing at a large tree outside the window.
Hearing this, Bodyguard B clicked his tongue in annoyance. “Is now really the time to be looking at a cat?! We need to figure out how to catch the thief!”
“…I imagine he’s talking about that cat, the one carrying a bag in his mouth.” The butler wore a conflicted expression, looking somewhat incredulous as he said, “Go take a look at the windowsill and the footprints on the floor. I suspect the ‘person’ who committed the theft was that… leopard-patterned cat.”
That explained why the dogs were barking so furiously.
“Woof… Woof, woof, woof, woof!!”
“ If you’ve got the guts, come back and fight me!! You thieving crook!!”
The German Shepherd planted its front paws on the windowsill and barked furiously. All it got in return, however, was the sight of a short-tailed cat sauntering away with nonchalant grace.
Lin You, the lynx and master thief, thought to himself: Do you take me for a brainless oaf like you? How could we possibly have a fair one-on-one fight when our sizes are so different? Just you wait. Once I’ve handed the goods over to my blind owner, I’ll bring Garfield along and we’ll ambush the three of you in a dirty, all-out brawl!
He absolutely hated stupid dogs!
