Chapter 50: The Fox Borrows The Tiger’s Might

Second Young Master Mu Yanming was so startled that he plopped right onto the floor, a sight that made Mu Nine’s lips twitch. Although he had long known that his young master’s intelligence could be somewhat concerning, seeing him reduced to this state made Mu Nine feel a genuine urge to slam the door and quit on the spot.

“Second Young Master, the cat… the device!” Mu Nine helpfully reminded him.

Mu Yanming froze for a moment at Mu Nine’s words. It took him quite a while to finally understand what Mu Nine meant. The cat must have been wearing some kind of device that allowed him to speak. Realizing this, Mu Yanming finally breathed a sigh of relief, only for his face to flush red as he realized just how pathetic he had looked a moment ago.

“Ahem! Well, anyway… I mean, it’s always shocking when a cat suddenly starts talking! I’m sure I’m not the only one who would be startled by that! Anyone else would be stunned for several minutes too.”

In response to his attempt to save face, Mu One, Mu Two, and Mu Nine silently rolled their eyes, while Lin You the Lynx Lord simply gave him one response.

“Hehe.”

Mu Yanming secretly ground his teeth. Damn it, he really wanted to turn that cat into a Dragon and Tiger Stew! To think he had actually believed that the person speaking was his future sister-in-law! If he had known it was a cat that dared to lecture him and mock his intelligence, there was no way he would have put up with it!!

“What? You look like you want to hit me?” Lin You gave him a sinister smile. “If you’ve got the guts, come up here and hit me. Go on, hit me! I bet you wouldn’t dare!”

Mu Yanming felt as though a mouthful of blood had risen into his throat, unable to go up or down, and he nearly choked to death on the spot.

Just as it looked like Second Young Master Mu was about to be bullied to death by Young Master Lin You, Mu Yanxiao directly grabbed his pet by the scruff of the neck and tossed him aside. Mu Two reacted quickly and caught the precious little thing. Looking rather flustered, he asked, “Boss? What do you mean by this?”

Mu Yanxiao spoke directly. “I’m going to have a one-on-one talk with Yanming about the mistakes he’s made these past few days. Take Linlin around the company or the area nearby. Come back in an hour.”

Mu Two’s mouth twitched. Then, with impressive efficiency, he scooped up the still-struggling Young Master Lin You and hurried out. Tsk, tsk. Judging by the Boss’s expression, he was clearly about to unleash a massive temper. Being able to avoid witnessing that tragic scene firsthand was a blessing.

After Mu Two closed the door to the CEO’s office, he looked down at the big cat still wriggling in his arms. “Little Six! What do you want to eat? What do you want to play? Just say the word. Even if you want to go to the heavens or the depths of the earth, Second Brother will take you there!”

Lin You used one of his chubby little paws to disdainfully push Mu Two’s face away. Does this lord need you to take me to the heavens or the depths of the earth? With my own all-capable blind master around, no one can threaten or bribe me into going anywhere! This lord is a fine pet who cannot be corrupted by wealth, cowed by force, or swayed by poverty! Thirty-two likes wouldn’t even be enough to describe this lord’s greatness!

“…Alright, it looks like you don’t want to go anywhere. Then Second Brother will take you on a tour of the entire company! We can also check out the cafeteria. Maybe there’s something you’d like to eat.”

Only then did China’s Model Pet, Linlin, reluctantly nod. He rested on Mu Two’s shoulder and looked down arrogantly at the company employees staring at him in astonishment.

Tsk, what are you looking at? Never seen a lynx as handsome as yours truly? Consider your horizons broadened! Now you realize how ignorant you were, don’t you? Hmph, foolish humans!

For the next hour, Mu Two found himself the object of unprecedented attention from the employees. He knew perfectly well that all this attention was because of the large cat in his arms, who was currently looking around curiously. To be honest, Little Six looked somewhat different from an ordinary cat. The most obvious differences were his short tail and the two tufts of fur on his ears. Anyone who noticed those two features would be able to recognize that Little Six was a lynx.

A lynx was not an animal that ordinary people could easily afford or were even legally allowed to keep as a pet. Moreover, Little Six had been personally carried into the company by the Boss. Even the densest person should have been able to figure out that this was the legendary Boss’s pet from City A, which had become incredibly popular.

Finally, someone could no longer suppress his curiosity about the “Boss’s pet.” With the air of someone marching heroically to his doom, a young employee rushed over to Mu Two and shouted, “Vice President, can I take a photo with this big cat? I’ve been absolutely, incredibly in awe of the pet that can turn our Boss from tempered steel into soft, pliable silk! I’ve finally gotten the chance to see him today, so no matter what, I have to take a picture with him! Even if you dock an entire month’s salary, I’m not afraid!!”

Mu Two adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses. His mental calculator clicked away for quite some time before he smiled slightly. “Why not? Since you admire Little Six so much, he’ll probably be very happy too. However, one month’s salary won’t be enough to take a picture with him. At least three months’ salary is required. Do you still want to take the picture?”

The young man who had rushed over froze. After thinking it over for a long time, he stared at Young Master Lin You with a look of deep resentment and tragic resignation. Just as Lin You was beginning to feel impatient enough to swat him, the man gritted his teeth and nodded.

“Fine! I’ll use three months’ salary to take a picture with him! Money can always be earned again, but this may be my only chance to take a picture with the Boss’s lynx!”

And so, under Mu Two’s rather approving gaze, the young man ultimately took several pictures with Young Master Lin You. Considering that this fellow was willing to spend three months’ salary just for a photo with him, even the proud and aloof little lynx decided to give him some face. He stayed perfectly still without fidgeting or blinking and even rested one of his chubby little paws against the employee’s face, as if to say, “ I’m giving you face.”

Afterward, Mu Two asked the other onlookers whether they wanted to take an intimate photo with Young Master Lin You as well. This time, however, the price was even higher: half a year’s salary.

At this, many employees who had originally planned to take pictures immediately became indignant. How could he raise the price so outrageously?! It hadn’t even been five minutes!

Vice President Mu Two’s answer was, “Opportunities often come only once. When you see an opportunity, you have to seize it quickly, accurately, and decisively. Otherwise, all that remains is your own regret.”

After hearing this, many of the employees looked at Vice President Mu with admiration. As expected of the Vice President! He could even turn a photo opportunity into a chance to deliver a lecture. He was truly impressive!!

However, after the lecture was over, when someone still wanted to spend half a year’s salary on a photo with Linlin, Vice President Mu Two thoroughly demonstrated what “opportunities only come once” meant.

“Ah, although I’d really like to dock your salaries, Little Six obviously doesn’t want to anymore. Besides, time’s up. You’ll just have to wait for the next opportunity!”

With that, Mu Two carried the extremely haughty Young Master Lin You toward the top floor. He left behind a crowd of employees slapping their thighs in regret.

As it turned out, the one young man who had managed to take a picture with Young Master Lin You had indeed possessed both courage and foresight. No matter how many times the Big Boss visited afterward, and whether or not he brought his pet with him, they never again had the opportunity to take a picture with this “adorable super-cat lynx.” Even offering a year’s salary, or even ten years’ salary, would have been useless.

Mu Two carried Lin You to the door of the CEO’s office. Before he even had time to open it, he could already hear a cacophony of wailing and howling coming from inside. Mu Two’s mouth twitched. The CEO’s office was soundproofed, after all. Normally, only a little noise should have been able to escape through the doorway, yet he could hear it all too clearly…

Tsk, tsk. The Boss was being rather ruthless. Better keep a low profile when entering.

Mu Two gently pushed open the door with Lin You’s furry head in his arms, and then he heard Mu Yanxiao’s instructions.

“For the next five days, you aren’t allowed to go anywhere. Stay in City B and take care of Linlin! If I find out that you went somewhere you shouldn’t have or met someone you shouldn’t have, then from now on, you can go live with Grandpa!”

Mu Yanxiao spoke with the exasperation of someone utterly frustrated by a younger family member who had failed to live up to expectations. “To think you were stupid enough to believe those so-called friends of yours. Before you officially start working, you’d better learn how to judge people properly! Just because someone flatters you and tells you how great you are doesn’t mean they genuinely care about you! And people who truly have ability never look down on themselves!”

Mu Yanming had been scolded so thoroughly that he didn’t even dare lift his head. In truth, he knew that he had made two major mistakes this time because he had listened to the advice of his “good friends.” If he failed to handle the situation properly, he might even end up ruining the Mu Family’s City B operations in the future.

Even so, Mu Yanming was somewhat dissatisfied with his brother accusing him of being unable to judge people and failing to recruit capable talent. He actually thought he was pretty good at judging people! It was just that his ears were sometimes a little too easily swayed by what others said. That wasn’t a big problem, was it? His brother was simply making a mountain out of a molehill.

On the surface, however, Mu Yanming nodded frantically, looking particularly repentant.

“Brother, I know I was wrong! Don’t worry. For the next five days, I definitely won’t go anywhere. I’ll take good care of Linlin!! If he wants me to go east, I won’t go west. If he tells me to chase dogs, I won’t catch chickens!!”

Pfft!!

Mu Two couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.

In an instant, everyone’s eyes turned toward him. Mu Two stiffened and reflexively pointed at the Young Master Lin You in his arms. “It wasn’t me just now. It was Linlin laughing.”

Unfortunately, Linlin the Lynx Cat King was a cat who could speak, and a violent one at that. The very next moment, Mu Two took a swipe from Lin You’s paw. He could only stare in dismay as the little fellow licked his own paw and let out two meows.

“Hehe. Do you think this lord can’t speak? How dare you open your mouth and slander this lord?!”

Mu Two, “…” The Boss’s pet is too smart. I really want to hit it, but I can’t. What do I do?!

However, this little interlude finally softened the expression of the gloomy Young Master Mu. He reached out and took his big cat from Mu Two, stroked his smooth fur, and finally spoke.

“Let’s go have dinner. It’s about time.”

In that instant, Second Young Master Mu’s favorability toward Lin You skyrocketed to the maximum.

This is a lifesaving divine cat!!

……

At the same time that Mu Yanxiao and the others were leaving the company, a company employee who looked quite honest and steady sent a message with trembling hands.

[BOSS is here. The loophole can’t be used anymore. What should we do?]
